Back then, I was never late for school. I couldn't be, since December was the month of our war-game. I had a friend then, Carrie, a faithful right-hand-man in every aspect of my life but especially in the battles of the cold months. We would don snow pants and puffy coats, pink mittens and ear muffs, and wrestle in the game "King of the Hill", played annually on the snowbank the plows created by our playground.
