In those days, East High and West High were double shifting but no formal wrestling programs were in existence un- til Wally Smith agreed to coach an East team if Keith Johnson would coach a West team . Smith and Johnson introduced their teams during a halftime performance at a basketball game . The Eagles and Thunderbirds, clad in dyed longjohn underwear, wrestled Alaska’s first dual meet with each school winning two matches . Anchorage’s first tournament was in 1962-63 and con- sisted of five teams---East, West, Palmer, Kenai, and Ko- diak . Gary Bernardson replaced Wally Smith at East and coached for two years until Ron Lavalley took over . In 1967, Jerry Palmer assumed the Thunderbird helm . About this same time, Kent Hansen at Mt . Edgecumbe introduced wrestling to Southeast Alaska . Another pro- gram was also started at Seward . Southcentral teams competed in the Western Alaska High School Association Tournament from 1962 until 1972 . West Anchorage was a dominant team until 1969 when East Anchorage won three consecutive ti- tles . During those years, larger schools were classified as AA and smaller schools as A . Homer was the Division A winner in 1969, giving up the crown to Chugiak for 1970 and 1971 . Chugiak first began competing in wrestling in 1967 un- der the tutelage of Dick Kerbow and didn’t waste any time becoming recognized as a top grappling school statewide . The first Alaska State High School Wrestling Tourna- ment was held at Service High School in 1972 with the first and second place regional winners in each weight competing from the two geographic regions of Alas- ka---Southeast and Southcentral . Fifteen schools from throughout Alaska were represented but no scores were kept, but it was noted that the Southcentral schools had eight champs to only four for the Southeast schools . The 1973 State Championship was held in Juneau, but again no team scores were kept . In 1979, the state championships were divisional- ized into small schools (Division I) and large schools (Division II) . Then in 1985, the divisions were revised into classifications based on enrollments . At that point, any school under 400 students would wrestle for the 1A-2A-3A State Championships, while schools over 500 were 4A . 2014 State High School 4A Wrestling Championships 3 4 2014 State High School 4A Wrestling Championships 4A Tournament Schedule 2014 State High School 4A Wrestling Championships 5 special. like you. GENESIS ENERGY, L.P. 2013 ANNUAL REPORT TO UNITHOLDERS LETTER TO OUR UNITHOLDERS Our past year was busy as we continued to identify and secure new opportunities for our partners to participate in the growing demand for our integrated services and capabilities. The opportunities available to us continue to be reflective of the need for new infrastructure to respond to changing fundamentals in North American crude oil production and refining. Our initiatives and strong business fundamentals resulted in record Segment Margin of $280.3 million, a 7% increase over 2012. We also generated record Available Cash before Reserves of $186 million for the year. Our operational highlights and accomplishments in 2013 included the following: We achieved segment margin improvements in each of our segments. Pipeline Transportation, Refinery Services and Supply and Logistics improved over 2012 by approximately 13%, 3% and 3% respectively. In Pipeline Transportation, our volumes increased on our Florida system due to volumes from our integrated rail unload facility at Walnut Hill, Florida. Volumes also increased on our offshore Cameron Highway Oil Pipeline System as the completion of facility work by producers at the connected production fields resulted in higher volumes transported in 2013. In Refinery Services, customer demand for NaHS remained high. Our new Tulsa facility continues to add to our supply diversification and our other existing facilities continue to perform well. In Supply and Logistics, we benefited from the acquisition of our offshore marine transportation business and experienced early contribution from our crude oil rail loading and unloading operations. Challenges in our fuel oil business resulted in lower volumes handled at reduced margins.

  • Wrestle Until He Prevails
Web Edition – September/ October, 2015 Wrestle Until He Prevails And Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day. .Then he said, 'Let me go, for the day is breaking.' But Jacob said, 'I will not let you go unless you bless me.' Genesis 32:24,26 October brings to mind the Reformation, and the role that Dr. Martin Luther played in restoring the church. In order to get to the heart of the Reformation, I feel that it is necessary to look at the personal life and writing of Dr. Martin Luther. There you will find a man who often wrestled in his weakness to find the strength of God. He is not unlike the man Jacob in the Scriptures. In the book of Genesis we read about Jacob's wrestling with God. There is a strange paradox here: Jacob prevailed in his prayer for help. The angel of God's presence said, "Your name shall no more be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with man and have prevailed." (vs. 28) But how did he prevail? By clinging to God in his utter need and weakness, knowing there was help in no one else. Sometimes there is nothing else to do but to wrestle with God. We may not know the path we should take, and we have to wrestle through until light breaks. We may find that our will and what we perceive as God's will are not in harmony, and we have to wrestle until He prevails.

  • A Historical Reading of Genesis 11:1–9: the Sumerian Demise and Dispersion Under the Ur Iii Dynasty
JETS 50/4 (December 2007) 693–714 A HISTORICAL READING OF GENESIS 11:1–9: THE SUMERIAN DEMISE AND DISPERSION UNDER THE UR III DYNASTY paul t. penley* i. available options for reading genesis 11:1–9 Three options are available for approaching the question of historicity in Gen 11:1–9: ahistorical primeval event; agnostic historical event; and known historical event. A brief survey of each approach will provide the initial im- petus for pursuing a reading of this pericope as known historical event, and the textual and archaeological evidence considered in the remainder of this article will ultimately identify this known historical event as the demise and dispersion of the last great Sumerian dynasty centered at Ur. 1. Ahistorical primeval event. Robert Davidson in his commentary on the neb text of Genesis 1–11 asserts, “It is only when we come to the story of Abraham in chapter 12 that we can claim with any certainty to be in touch with traditions which reflect something of the historical memory of the Hebrew people.”1 Davidson’s opinion reflects the approach to Genesis 1–11 where the narratives are couched in the guise of primeval events that do not correlate to actual history. Westermann also exemplifies this approach when he opts for reading Gen 11:1–9 through the lens of inaccessible primeval event. Even though he acknowledges that the mention of the historical Babylon “is more in accord with the historical etiologies in which the name of a place is often explained by a historical event,” he hypothesizes that “such an element shows that there are different stages in the growth of 11:1–9.”2 Speiser could also be placed in this category on account of the fact that he proposes pure literary dependence on tablet VI of the Enuma Elish.3 In his estimation the narrative is a reformulated Babylonian tradition and questions of historicity are therefore irrelevant.
