Download Media Package Centerfold is a five member Classic Rock and Roll band based in the Chicago suburbs. Originally formed in 1979, they were part of the “Golden Age of Chicago Rock and Roll” when bands like Styx, Survivor, and Cheap Trick shook the town to the ground and ruled the midwest. Without missing a beat, the band continues to perform those great hits from the 70s and 80s showing the younger generations what exactly made music from that era so great. Currently featuring the powerful lead vocals of Cindy Safran, Centerfold performs a wide variety of songs by female rock legends like Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Aretha Franklin, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart. Not to be outdone, Mark and Phoomin keep the train rolling with covers from The B52s, Tom Petty, and Styx, to name a few. Centerfold is at home playing any size venue and a big crowd pleaser. They will have the whole place rockin by the end of the event. They come to crank out the tunes. Cindy’s powerful vocal talents cover the spectrum of Rock, Blues, Motown and Country, including songs by Heart, Benatar, Journey, Aretha, Pink and Carrie, to mention a few. Cindy’s vocals and stage presence draws in the audience's attention, and keeps them wanting more. Mark Wedow Guitars and Lead Vocals - As one of the original founding members of Centerfold, Mark’s talents on guitar and vocals go hand in hand with his entertainment skills. He's known to wander offstage into the audience at any given time to engage the crowds, as he grinds out solos from the band’s song list of favorites we all enjoy. Eric Wedow Drums and Vocals - Centerfold’s one and only drummer and founding member, provides the band’s rock steady beat, and literally sits in the driver’s seat that keeps the audience rocking to their favorite songs. Known to band members as the human metronome, Eric also lends his perfect pitch talents into building Centerfold’s live vocal harmonies. Phoomin Maneechot Guitars, Keyboards and Vocals - Phoomin joins us, as we rock into the third decade of this century. He brings his talents on both keyboards and lead guitar, through his years of experience playing in and around the Chicago rock and roll music scene. Chuck Federowicz Bass and Vocals - Chuck provides the bottom half of Centerfold’s rhythm section. Also being an original member, Chuck and Eric have worked together long enough to pretty much know what each other will be doing, as they look to play off one another to keep the beat driving in the pocket, or as the band has coined, “keep that freight train running." • Sexism in the 1980'S Music Industry
Clark 1 Maureen Clark Senior Thesis Dr. Paul Schuette 3/24/2019 Girls Just Wanna Have Equality: Sexism in the 1980’s Music Industry By the 1980s, women were finally making their way into the American workforce. One can see that in many aspects of 1980s pop culture from the shoulder pads in women's suits in an attempt to make them appear more masculine and powerful as well as female empowerment movies like “Working Girl”. However, this rise in female empowerment was definity experienced most within the music, where female artist like Madonna to The Go-Go's were dominating the charts and the workplace. Despite the success that they were achieving, however, most women were still struggling to be seen as authentic or genuine, and most importantly they were fighting to be on an equal playing field as men. Webster's Dictionary defines marginalized as: “(of a person, group, or concept) treated as insignificant or peripheral”. Women have always been a marginalized group within the music industry since its conception, just like in almost every aspect of history. However, by the 1980s, women were entering the workforce at a more rapid rate than ever before, this affected every aspect of American culture along with its music. Despite more representation within the workforce, women in music were still often dismissed, despite the fact that many women and girl groups were making some of the most successful music during that decade. One reason for Clark 2 this had to do with the rise of MTV along with the sexism that has always existed in the music industry.

  • What Is Gonzo? Hirst, UQ Eprint Edition 2004-01-19 Page: 1
What is gonzo? Hirst, UQ Eprint edition 2004-01-19 Page: 1 What is Gonzo? The etymology of an urban legend [word count: 6302] Dr Martin Hirst, School of Journalism & Communication, University of Queensland [email protected] Abstract: The delightfully enigmatic and poetic ‘gonzo’ has come a long way from its humble origins as a throw-away line in the introduction to an off-beat story about the classic American road trip of discovery. Fear and loathing in Las Vegas is definitely a classic of post-war literature and this small word has taken on a life of its own. A Google search on the Internet located over 597000 references to gonzo. Some had obvious links to Hunter S. Thompson’s particular brand of journalism, some were clearly derivative and others appear to bear no immediate connection. What, for example, is gonzo theology? Despite the widespread common usage of gonzo, there is no clear and definitive explanation of its linguistic origins. Dictionaries differ, though they do tend to favour Spanish or Italian roots without much evidence or explanation. On the other hand, biographical sources dealing with Thompson and new journalism also offer different and contradictory etymologies. This paper assesses the evidence for the various theories offered in the literature and comes close to forming a conclusion of its own. The paper then reviews the international spread of gonzo in a variety of areas of journalism, business, marketing and general weirdness by reviewing over 200 sites on the Internet and many other sources. Each of these manifestations is assessed against several gonzo criteria.

  • Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MARCH 29, 2011 BOULEVARD CASINO & 96.9 JACK FM PRESENT PAT BENATAR & NEIL GIRALDO LIVE AT THE RED ROBINSON SHOW THEATRE FRIDAY, AUGUST 12 Coquitlam, BC – It was back in the early 80’s when singer and four-time Grammy Award winner, Pat Benatar began breaking rules and blazed a new trail for female rock stars. Pat was bold, self assured and independent … songs such as “Love Is A Battlefield”, “We Belong”, “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”, “We Live For Love” and “Heartbreaker” became anthems for a new attitude. At the dawn of MTV, Pat was the image of the female rocker for an entire generation of young women … and the young men who loved them. The generation has grown up with her and others have walked down the path she helped pave. Still going strong today, Pat has been married for 29 years to accomplished guitarist and songwriter, Neil Giraldo. Neil is also well-known as a prolific producer having produced all of Pat’s albums along with other artists including The Del-Lords, Rick Springfield and Kenny Loggins. Pat often refers to him as “The Big Kahuna” and the name fits as Neil is the major reason that her music sounds the way it does in the recording studio and on tour. Last June, Pat’s autobiography, Between a Heart and a Rock Place was released … the memoir touches upon her life, rock ‘n roll and how her generation changed music forever. Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo will be performing for one night only at Boulevard Casino’s Red Robinson Show Theatre in August.
