The information has also been forwarded to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The report contains information on trends and sources of zoonoses and zoonotic agents in Poland during the year 2011 . The information covers the occurrence of these diseases and agents in humans, animals, foodstuffs and in some cases also in feedingstuffs. In addition the report includes data on antimicrobial resistance in some zoonotic agents and commensal bacteria as well as information on epidemiological investigations of foodborne outbreaks. Complementary data on susceptible animal populations in the country is also given. The information given covers both zoonoses that are important for the public health in the whole European Community as well as zoonoses, which are relevant on the basis of the national epidemiological situation. The report describes the monitoring systems in place and the prevention and control strategies applied in the country. For some zoonoses this monitoring is based on legal requirements laid down by the Community Legislation, while for the other zoonoses national approaches are applied. The report presents the results of the examinations carried out in the reporting year. A national evaluation of the epidemiological situation, with special reference to trends and sources of zoonotic infections, is given. Whenever possible, the relevance of findings in foodstuffs and animals to zoonoses cases in humans is evaluated. ANIMAL POPULATIONS The relevance of the findings on zoonoses and zoonotic agents has to be related to the size and nature of the animal population in the country. Poland - 2011 1 Poland - 2011 Report on trends and sources of zoonoses A. Information on susceptible animal population Sources of information Most of data comes from local veterinary units. However, data concerning on the number of herds and livestock with reference to cattle, pigs, goats and sheep obtained the data from the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture (ARMA). Data concerning to Gallus gallus and turkeys are suitable for these which were placed in reports to the European Commission. Some data on the number of herds and holdings were obtained from the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture (ARMA); whereas, data on the herds of other animal species (eg. reindeer,deer) were obtained in the District Veterinary Inspectorates. Data on the number of horses herds was obtained from the Polish Horse Breeders Association. Data on the number of headage of susceptible animals was obtained from the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture; while, data on other animal species was obtained in the District Veterinary Inspectorates. Number of slaughtered animals is a number of animals examined by the official veterinarians in the slaughterhouses prezented in Report RRW-6 for 2008 prepared by General Veterinary Inspectorate and edited by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dates the figures relate to and the content of the figures Data supplied by the Local Veterinary Units for the year 2010. Definitions used for different types of animals, herds, flocks and holdings as well as the types covered by the information Definitions used for the purposes of monitoring and eradication of zoonoses are in compliance with the definitions determined by the Regulation 178/2002, Regulation 2160/2003 and Directives: 2003/99, 64/432, 90/539. National evaluation of the numbers of susceptible population and trends in these figures In 2009 number of herds sheep, goats, pigs and ducks were incresed in comparing to 2008. In case of herds of pigs was realted with stabilization of situation. Number of infected herds of pigs was decreased. Also we still observe increased the number of flocks of Gallus gallus. In 2008 comparing to 2007, the number of cattle herds decresed but inreased number of live animals. It can be explaind by the fact that holdings which had one or two cows resign therefrom as well as young people moved to the cities. Whereas some farmers enlarged their holdings and number of cattle. Tere was a slight increased number of pigs herds whereas decreased number of live animals. It was caused by a high price of meat from pigs, and arised holdings, which brought one or two pigs for private domestic use. As well as decreased of number of livestock was caused by implementation of programme eradication of Aujeszky disease. In 2008 comparing to 2007, number of sheeps and goats herds increased. It was related with additional payment from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. In 2008 there was significant decrease in number of flocks and number of live birds of Gallus gallus species. It was propably caused by implementation of National Salmonella control programme in breeding and laying flocks. Decrease in number of flocks can be explained by the fact that for 2008 many District Veterinary Inspectorates did not provide data on very small flocks and holdings (with less than 10 birds kept for private domestic use).

    PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS IN POLAND 25th October 2015 European Elections monitor The conservative opposition running favourite in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Poland Corinne Deloy Abstract: Just a few months after the unexpected victory of Andrzej Duda in the presidential election on 10th and 24th May last the Poles are returning to ballot on 25th October next to renew the two chambers of their parliament. All of the polls forecast victory by the main opposition party Law Analysis and Justice (PiS) in a country that is still divided between the industrial west which leans rather more to the Civic Platform (PO), a liberal party in office for the last eight years, and the east, which is more rural and closer to the conservative forces embodied by PiS Justice. Pedigree and molecular data were used to evaluate genetic diversity in the Polish populations of the Polish primitive horse (also known as Polish Konik) and Hucul breeds over the time period of 30 years (1980– 2011). Based on genotypes in 12 microsatellite loci (for 3865 Polish primitive horses and 1627 Huculs), as well as on pedigree data derived from over 7000 individuals (both breeds), several indices describing structure of the analysed populations were estimated. For both analysed breeds, we observed an increasing trend of inbreeding since 1980 which seems to be much more stable (oscillating around 10 % in the Polish primitive horse and 5 % in Hucul) since the beginning of 2000s when they were included in conservation programs in Poland. We observed that generally, indices related to genetic diversity are higher in the Hucul breed.

In many EU countries significant decline in economic growth and problems of public finance (debt growth countries) is noticeable as a result of the crisis. The aim of this article is to highlight the changes in public finances and economic growth in Poland, in the context of financial crisis. The article verifies the first hypothesis that monetary policy has impact on the fiscal policy and finally on economic growth in Poland; and the second hypothesis that during the financial crisis were noticed simultaneously worsening situation of public finances and economic growth. This article compares Poland and the Czech Republic (1989–2010), where important differences emerged in revised Labor Codes in such areas as dismissals, fixed-term contracts, collective bargaining, and union rights. In all these aspects, Czech labor did significantly better in resisting flexibilization. The explan- ation rests on the evolution of a legacy union in the Czech Republic that was able to concentrate labor’s resources and coordinate with an electorally viable set of left parties to secure their backing for labor’s agenda. This was not possible in Poland given the deep divisions within organized labor and the shifting fortunes of left parties in a more volatile party system. The cohesiveness of labor and the viability of left parties do not explain variation in labor power everywhere. They do, however, jointly constitute a portable mechanism that enhances the strength of organized labor in post-communist countries and possibly even in late-developing countries marked by market reforms and democratic contestation.
