Horizon House Region: Cornwall Sleeps: 10 Overview Oozing character and charm and just a 5 minutes’ walk from the world-famous Fistral Beach, Horizon House is a unique, recently restored Art Deco masterpiece from the 1930s! You may recognise this wonder, having featured on George Clarke's “Old House, New Home” TV show, documenting its magnificent refurbishment! The home is brimming with colour and life, and with an open-plan style throughout, encourages conversation to flow freely, great for large sociable groups of friends and family! In the main living space there is a huge wall of glass along one side, welcoming in the warmth and sunshine of the outside world! The kitchen features a large central island which doubles up as a breakfast bar, and there’s a big dining table and several sofas, from all of which you gaze out to the stunning sea-scape beyond – great for watching the activity on the water and seeing the dramatic shift in weather through the seasons! The first four bedrooms are all located on this ground floor, and include: two king-size rooms, one of which is the master suite, with an ensuite bathroom, a twin room (with the option to zip the beds together to form a 6' super king size bed) and one kids room with a set of bunk beds. There’s a full family bathroom on this floor with a bathtub and a separate shower. The master suite also comes with a small study area and direct garden access. On the lower-ground floor you will find the fifth bedroom in ‘The Hideaway’, a wonderful self- contained annex with an open-plan lounge and kitchen area. The bedroom features a built-in king-size bed and there’s a dazzling accompanying bathroom with a shower, while on the patio you can enjoy stunning views across the garden and beach! Your enchanting garden comprises a huge glass balcony with panoramic views across Fistral Beach with picnic benches and two chairs, and a large set of stairs down to the main garden! Here you’ll find a wonderful enclosed and sheltered large lawn with mature hedges to one side, where you can enjoy a memorable barbecue or perhaps a game of bowls or football with the whole group! A play house for the youngsters will ensure everyone has a little entertainment on hand! In this lovely area of Pentire you’re just a 15-minute walk to the centre of Newquay, the fabulous seaside town and surfing capital of the UK, and its many sandy beaches are at your fingertips, alongside countless independent Page 1 restaurants, cafes and wine bars! Famous for its water-sports, in particular surfing and sailing, Cornwall also offers an incredible rock-climbing scene, off-road cycling (including the 18 mile ‘Camel Trail’ following the scenic estuary of the river Camel) and of course, walking. The South West Coast Path, which runs for hundreds of miles along the West Country southern coastline, is particularly scenic around Penwith and the Lizard in the far south-west, venturing through vibrant towns, remote cliffs, beaches, farms and fishing villages. Another incredible walking path is the 125- mile Cornish Celtic Way, mapped by a local 55-year-old clergyman, which will show you a wilder, even more romantic side of this luscious county. Be sure to try a Cornish pasty and delicious sweet Saffron buns, and of course a little Cornish Clotted cream and Ice Cream! And for a local tipple, the three major breweries of St Austell, Sharps and Skinners serve excellent beer in pubs throughout the county, and because of its mild climate Cornwall has a number of vineyards producing delicious wine and is even known for its production of honey wine! Though the magic of the county really happens in the rural Cornish landscape, there are many enchanting towns in Cornwall. Some famous ones include: Bude with its excellent beaches, first class surfing and laidback, relaxed vibe on the north coast; Newquay, the surfing capital of the UK, and; St Ives, the home of one branch of the Tate Gallery, with white sand beaches and crystal- clear turquoise waters. If you must visit a city (for a little retail therapy, or perhaps to see a show) the only one in the county is Truro, with High Tea at Charlotte's offering an unmissable experience, in a charming Victorian building serving Cornish- grown tea! There are two covered markets, one of which sells eco/organic products, and on Saturday mornings there’s a great farmers' market on the piazza where you can find local produce. To get in, there are ever-improving roads and trains running right through to Penzance in the far south-west of the county, as well as Cornwall Airport Newquay (NQY) about 5 miles from Newquay, or a 30-40-minute drive from Truro. The nearby airports of Exeter (EXT) and Bristol (BRS) offer a wider range of flights than Newquay and will usually be significantly cheaper. Car hire is available at all three airports.
