PERSONAL STATEMENT

I am a four-term Arizona State Representative currently running for State Senate District 15, and Assistant Professor of Practice in the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health at The University of Arizona and Associate Director of the Arizona Center for Rural Health.

Previously, I was an Associate Clinical Professor at Arizona State University teaching classes in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College and Assistant Dean in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation creating executive education courses for health professionals related to health policy.

With a unique experience that spans legislative, academic and health care worlds, I am committed to expanding my academic career to include research and service in the area of applied health policy, helping to connect students and faculty to the legislative process. I support innovative and critical thought, collaborating across diverse groups and representations to identify and deliver optimal solutions.

Dedicated to health, health care, and the human condition, I established the Health Policy Academy in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation. As House of Representatives Health Committee Chairwoman, I strove to ensure innovation efficiency and effectiveness in the Arizona State health care system. I work with non-profits to assist in their efforts to more effectively advocate for vulnerable populations, including partnering with Native American tribes, and rural healthcare advocates serving vulnerable populations.

As Vice-Chair of the Education Finance Committee I have worked to reduce government regulations and unfunded mandates in order to support schools in their primary purpose. Education is a top priority, and I have always used my service on boards, commissions and foundations to mentor students while influencing the private and public decision-making process in favor of the students.

An effective fundraiser, grant writer and advocate of non-profit organizations, I am passionate about matching needs to solutions, forming diverse partnerships to uniquely solve community and public health challenges, while raising up the next generation of leaders to make the long-term difference.
