Te Awamutu Courier, Thursday, January 27, 2005 PAGE 9 IN BUSINESS CIRCLES New Vodafone First Mobile store opens Vodafone has a bright, new presence in Te Awamutu’s main street with the recent opening of a First Mobile store. The agency previously oper- ated through Computer Aid in Sloane Street, but owners Tim and Glenda Sullivan say a deci- sion to expand the computer side of their business has resulted in a separate Vodafone dealership being opened. Manager of the First Mobile store Josh Kyle says a consid- erable investment has been made in the new store - with quality fi xtures and fi ttings, modern decor, sound system and security features (such as lami- nated glass windows and several surveillance cameras). Local tradespeople ‘came to the party’ to complete work prior to the Christmas break, ready for the store’s opening on Janu- ary 14. Feedback about the new store has been positive from the com- munity and visitors alike, with a steady stream of customers coming in to buy phones and ac- cessories, arrange upgrades, buy air time etc. FIRST Mobile manager Josh Kyle in the new Te Awamutu store The new location on Alexan- on Alexandra Street with one of the latest cellphones available, dra Street is easy to spot and a Nokia 7260. 0270510AD has nearby access through the This will allow for the develop- for further details. walkway to the Mahoe Street ment of live video streaming - so The Vodafone First Mobile public carpark. callers can also see the person store is currently open from Josh says 2005 is set to be an they are talking to. 8.30am to 5pm weekdays and exciting year in telecommunica- To celebrate the opening of from 9am-1pm on Saturdays. tions as it will see the launch of the new store, a signed Vodafone For further details call in to 3G (Third Generation) technol- Warriors jersey (pictured above) the new store at 158 Alexandra ogy. will be given away - ask instore Street. 027TC007/05 027TC002/05 027TC009/05

ALL-TE AWAMUTU FINISH: Liam Jackson (5) narrowly beats his clubmate Harry McConnell to remain unbeaten all weekend in the eight year 197TC007/04 boys’ class at Te Awamutu’s Grand Prix meet. McConnell was second in each of the mottos. 0270512AD

If any confi rmation was ever needed that under eight-year-old BMX riders are a competitive lot, it was patently clear at Te Awamutu’s Grand Prix meeting at the weekend. But due to the implementation, by BMXNZ, of a new development programme (Sprocket Rockets) for all riders under the age of eight, these children are ‘participating’ and offi cials unable to record points for them except at the National Titles. At Te Awamutu, the 35 under 8s (out of a fi eld of 160 riders from Whangarei to New Plymouth) defi antely participated in racing style. They turned on some of the most spectacular racing over the two days, with many of the riders in each motto going over the fi nish line with tyre tread between them. The youngest rider was three years old. He was kept company by a number of four and fi ve year olds. Te Awamutu riders, looking resplendent in their brightly coloured Pop ‘N Good Popcorn sponsored tops, featured prominently throughout the meet- ing as a result of their fi tness, skill and polished racing style. Coach Malcolm McOnie was thrilled with how well the Te Awamutu riders performed. Racing in the older age groups was second to none, with Te Awamutu riders pulling off top three placings and many more making top eight fi nals. Riders are now in full training mode for the Na- tional Titles in Rangiora at Easter Weekend. Te Awamutu is hoping to have a team of ap- proximately 25 riders qualifi ed to compete at Rangiora. The club has two national No 1s going to defend their titles - Codi Merito is defending the eight- year boys and Connor Loomans the seven year boys. Grand Prix results on page 13.
