AHA started the event by establishing eight categories of Hero Dogs. Those categories were: Law Enforcement/Arson Dog Service Dog Therapy Dog Military Dog Guide Dog Hearing Dog Search and Rescue Dog Emerging Hero Dog Dogs were nominated within each category and their stories were sent to AHA who posted the dogs’ pictures and stories on the internet so people could vote for their favorite Hero Dog. The partners of each dog chose a charity to receive a $5,000 prize if their dog won their category. Then, the winners of each category would go to Beverly Hills, California, for a red carpet gala awards ceremony where the overall Hero Dog Award winner would be chosen by a group of celeb- rity judges, and that overall winning team would receive an additional $10,000 for their charity. We were thrilled when one of our Hearing Dogs, Harley, won the Hearing Dog category, earning a trip to the awards ceremony and $5,000 for DFD. Although Harley did not win the overall award, we are so proud of him and Nancy & Harley his partner Nancy for representing all of our wonderfully trained Hearing Dog teams.     Keio Communication Review No.39, 2017 The Use and Abuse of Global Telepoiesis: Of Human and Non-Human Bondages Entangled in Media Mobilities OGAWA NISHIAKI Yoko* Introduction Collective memory is not an archive that is concealed or defiant to any access. Rather, collective memory is open to re-interpretation. Also, collective memory is displayed in various forms: names, folk tales, old films, TV programs and Japanese cinema on the big screen, which Japanese migrant women watch again but this time with local audiences in foreign cities. Media audience studies and other studies on diasporic media consumption (Morley, 1974, 1990; Collins et al., 1986; Liebes & Katz, 1990; Ang, 1991; Livingstone, 1998; Moores, 1993; Ogawa, 1992) have been endeavoring to examine readings of specific media texts in relation to audience so far. On the contrary, more detailed analysis of collective memory will be required to understand the global media mobilities we encounter in the past decades (Zelizer, 1993; Gillespie, 1995; Fortier, 2000). This paper will focus on recursivity by shifting the emphasis from meaning of the text itself to how collective memories in talks act as sites, namely time-spaces (Scannell, 1988, 1991; Gilroy et al., 2000). It is this type of media mobilities with which the Japanese women who live abroad try to locate themselves somewhere local amid the global upheavals they encounter (Ogawa, 1994, 1996; Urry, 2007; 1 Elliot & Urry, 2010) . With emphasis on Japanese women, who are unfamiliar with war memories but are destined to recursively cope with them, diasporic experiences in relation with media, history and self-identity will be highlighted (Dower, 1986; Goodman, 1990; Clair et al., 2016).

Abstract: Congenital deafness is prevalent among modern dog breeds, including Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dogs (ASCD). However, in ASCD, no causative gene has been identified so far. Therefore, we performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) and whole genome sequencing (WGS) of affected and normal individuals. For GWAS, 3 bilateral deaf ASCDs, 43 herding dogs, and one unaffected ASCD were used, resulting in 13 significantly associated loci on 6 chromosomes, i.e., CFA3, 8, 17, 23, 28, and 37. CFA37 harbored a region with the most significant association −21 (−log10(9.54 × 10 ) = 20.02) as well as 7 of the 13 associated loci. For whole genome sequencing, the same three affected ASCDs and one unaffected ASCD were used.
