In addition, VICE Studios has over 70 projects in development and production in the US and this year had 3 documentaries (AKA Jane Roe, Looking for Eva and Flee debuting at Cannes) and 3 scripted feature films (Judy and Punch, Mogul Mogwli and Goldie) premiere. “We’ve always been documentary fanatics over at VICE Studios, and with many of our greatest creative and commercial successes over the years occurring in the documentary side of our slate, our commitment to making ambitious documentaries is stronger than ever, and bringing on a dedicated, experienced executive with amazing filmmaker relationships like Jannat to head up docs is a testament to that,” said Danny Gabai, EVP, Head of VICE Studios US. “With her at the helm, VICE Studios will continue to build on our successful history of producing bold documentaries that break through to make a cultural impact.” Most recently, Gargi has been producing a soon to be announced documentary series set to debut on a major streaming service as well as producing several independent projects. Previously, Gargi served as head of documentary films for Vulcan Productions, where she developed and produced a wide range of acclaimed, cause-based documentary feature films and series including The Reason I Jump (2020 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award winner), Ghost Fleet (2018 Telluride Film Festival), STEP (Sundance Jury Special Jury Prize Winner) and the Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award winning Body Team 12. In her work as an independent producer, Gargi co-executive produced the Academy Award-nominated short documentary Knife Skills and produced the Emmy-nominated feature documentary CIRCO. Prior to joining Vulcan Productions in 2014, she served as Vice President of Alpha Cine Labs, leading the growth of the boutique film lab and supporting the theatrical releases of Beasts of the Southern Wild, Born Into Brothels, Taxi to the Dark Side, Jesus Camp, Iraq in Fragments, among others. Earlier, Gargi was Vice President of Acquisitions and Development for AtomFilms and held positions in marketing at New Line Cinema and Fox Searchlight Pictures. She serves on the Board of Directors for the International Documentary Association and Washington FilmWorks and is the Co-Chair of The Redford Center, a non-profit that harnesses the power of media to engage people and galvanize environmental action.
