Six parties were repre- sented: the Liberals, Marxist/Leninists, the National Party. New Democrats, the Progressive Conservatives and Reform. The parties spoke of the need for job creation and job training as the means of pulling Canada out of its current econom- ic crisis. A question peri- od followed. The few Humber stu- dents who attended were interested in issues affect- ing their education and job prospects. PC candi- date Jane MacLaren was asked about transfer pay- ments to the province for student grants and loans. MacLaren said she is "appalled" by present cut- backs to transfer pay- ments and the Conservatives have made a commitment to main- taining the present system as a basic minimum for the future. "I would look at ways, if at all possible given the deficit situation, to rein- state some of those trans- fer payments," she said. The NDP candidate Carmella Sasso also responded to the question. June 2016 Volume: 34 Number: 10 www.devilsfanclub.org A Fan Works for Closed Captioning at Pru Center by Gary Noll Gary Noll, Deaf DFC member, Devils plans tickets account holder, asked, pushed and requested Prudential Center to post the public addressing announcer closed captioned CC on the scoreboard during New Jersey Devils games few years ago. I also asked James Semerad, Seton Hall's Associate Director for Ticket Operations if it is possible we post public addressing announcer closed captioned CC during Seton Hall basketball games. Seton Hall basketball and New Jersey Devils hockey both share Prudential Center. James agreed to support my request. I also asked the Devils Fan Club to support my request. They were very supportive. We all worked with Prudential Center. http://www.dailyrecord.com/story/sports/college/2015/02/26/gary-noll-advocates-deaf-rutgers-seton-hall- fans/24084095/ Prudential Center agreed. They offered two ways to deaf fans: public addressing announcer closed captioned CC posted on the scoreboard and ribbon boards and picking up hand-held device from the Guest Service during Seton Hall basketball and New Jersey Devils hockey games. New Jersey Devils debuted CC on November 28, 2014 when they played Detroit Red Wings. Brittanie Roldan, Prudential Center Director for Guest Service and her staff were very supportive. We worked to- gether to make sure we got best public addressing announcer CC including play by play, referee, advertisement, entertainment and other announcements during Devils games. We found it very challenging. Hockey is a non-stop sport unlike basketball or baseball. To keep up with CC during a hockey game is challenging.

  • Honors & Awards
2009-10 WCHA MEN’S YEARBOOK HONORS & AWARDS THE HOBEY BAKER MEMORIAL AWARD HISTORY OF THE AWARD he Hobey Baker Memorial Award is presented annually to the college hockey player who best exemplifies the qualities that Princeton University’s Hobey Baker himself demon- Tstrated as an athlete and as a servant of his country in the early 1900’s. Hobey Baker was a pure sportsman and despised foul play. As a player, he opened up the game with his speed and skills, setting new standards for the way the game was played. Prior to the announcement of the winner, there is an announcement of the Top 10 Finalists and then a Hobey ‘Hat Trick’ of the top three finalists. The first recipient of the award in 1981 – Neal Broten of Minnesota – was from the WCHA. Other Hobey Baker winners from the WCHA have been Tom Kurvers, D, UMD, 1984; Bill Watson, F, UMD, 1985; Tony Hrkac, F, UND, 1987; Robb Stauber, G, UM, 1988; Chris Marinucci, F, UMD, 1994; Brian Bonin, F, UM, 1996; Jordan Leopold, D, UM, 2002; Peter Sejna, F, CC, 2003; Junior Lessard, F, UMD, 2004; Marty Sertich, F, CC, 2005; Matt Carle, D, DU, 2006; and Ryan Duncan, F, UND, 2007. But he was different. Hobey Baker was the college athlete supreme: The gentleman sportsman, the amateur in the pure sense, playing the game for the sport, who never fouled, despised publicity and refused professional offers.
