A Fan Works for Closed Captioning at Pru Center by Gary Noll

Gary Noll, Deaf DFC member, Devils plans tickets account holder, asked, pushed and requested to post the public addressing announcer closed captioned CC on the scoreboard during games few years ago.

I also asked James Semerad, Seton Hall's Associate Director for Ticket Operations if it is possible we post public addressing announcer closed captioned CC during Seton Hall basketball games. Seton Hall basketball and New Jersey Devils hockey both share Prudential Center. James agreed to support my request. I also asked the Devils Fan Club to support my request. They were very supportive. We all worked with Prudential Center.

http://www.dailyrecord.com/story/sports/college/2015/02/26/gary-noll-advocates-deaf-rutgers-seton-hall- fans/24084095/

Prudential Center agreed. They offered two ways to deaf fans: public addressing announcer closed captioned CC posted on the scoreboard and ribbon boards and picking up hand-held device from the Guest Service during Seton Hall basketball and New Jersey Devils hockey games. New Jersey Devils debuted CC on November 28, 2014 when they played .

Brittanie Roldan, Prudential Center Director for Guest Service and her staff were very supportive. We worked to- gether to make sure we got best public addressing announcer CC including play by play, referee, advertisement, entertainment and other announcements during Devils games. We found it very challenging. Hockey is a non-stop sport unlike basketball or baseball. To keep up with CC during a hockey game is challenging.

This past year, we improved play by play captioning and other announcements. We had best captioning during Brodeur ceremony days.

DFC was also very supportive. I have been going to many New Jersey Devils games to make sure I provided my feedback, suggestions for improvement. I also asked for CC on TV discussion during New Jersey Devils and I got support from DFC and Prudential Center

Deaf fans and myself can follow it very well. We now have awesome fan experience at games. Thanks to James, Brittanie and her staff and NJ Devils Fan Club for their support.

2016 Garden State Games Competition

Since 1983, The Garden State Games Ice Hockey Competition has provided opportunities for young players in New Jersey to enjoy themselves in a sports festival atmosphere while displaying their hockey skills. We are one of about 30 sports included under The Garden State Games umbrella. The original Games format for ice hockey in- cluded only the scholastic level. In 1996, youth players (13 & under and 11 & under) were included. In 1997, Sled Hockey joined the games.

The support provided by The Devils Fan Club is one of the reasons we have been able to expand. Since 1992, The Devils Fan Club has made donations through its Charities Committee to aid game funding. More importantly, fan club members have donated their time and energies to help staff this competition. They have served in various capacities: fund-raising activities, try-out managers, locker room managers and off-ice officials (perhaps the most fun of all!). The Devils Fan Club has also donated The Most Valuable Player awards to the outstanding performers in each year's games.

The DFC would like members to help staff The Garden State Games this year. Please mark your calendar and vol- unteer your time to this exciting event. There are many different volunteer positions available so please contact the DFC hotline 201-768-9680, mailbox # 4 for more details. Your phone call will be returned. We look forward to having our DFC members be part of this special tournament! Please Volunteer!

The Garden State Games scholastic tryout dates will be Saturday, June 4, 5:30 to 6:30PM and 6:45-7:45PM and Monday, June 6th from 7:15 to 8:15PM and 8:30 to 9:30PM at The Ice Vault Arena, 10 Nevins Road, Wayne, NJ. Practice will be Saturday, June 18th: Pine Barrens and Jersey Shore from 6:15 to 7:45PM and Atlantic City and Meadowlands from 8:00- 9:30PM. The Garden State Games Scholastic games will be Monday, June 20: 7:15 to 8:45PM Meadowlands vs Jersey Shore and 8:15 to 10:00PM Atlantic City vs Pine Barrens. Wednesday, June 22: 7:15 to 9:00PM Pine Barrens vs Meadowlands and 8:15 to 10:00PM Jersey Shore vs Atlantic City. Saturday, June 25: 6:30 to 8:15PM Pine Barrens vs Jersey Shore and 7:00 to 8:45PM Atlantic City vs Meadowlands at The Ice Vault.

The tournament ends with the scholastic semi-finals on Monday, June 27: 7:30 to 9:15PM and 8:00 to 9:45PM and the championship game Tuesday, June 28:7:00 to 8:45PM at The Ice Vault.

Volunteers are needed both for the games and the practices. How about coming out and showing these hockey players and future Devils fans that The Devils Fan Club supports their participation in the game they love to play and we love to watch. Contact us at [email protected]

For further information, check the web site www.leaguelineup.com/gsgicehockey. Thank you for your help to make this annual tournament a success; you are guaranteed to have fun.
