    Section B: DistrictProfile MpumalangaHealth Profiles Province 13 Mpumalanga Province Gert Sibande District Municipality (DC30) Overview of the district The Gert Sibande District Municipalitya is a Category C municipality located in the Mpumalanga Province. It is bordered by the Ehlanzeni and Nkangala District Municipalities to the north, KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State to the south, Swaziland to the east, and Gauteng to the west. The district is the largest of the three districts in the province, making up almost half of its geographical area. It is comprised of seven local municipalities: Govan Mbeki, Chief Albert Luthuli, Msukaligwa, Dipaleseng, Mkhondo, Lekwa and Pixley Ka Seme. TODs are purposely designed to facilitate access to the railway stations and to increase the use of the public transportation systems. Thereby land use and transportation integration can be achieved. TOD programmes seek to create high quality living and working environments, to improve station access, to implement local land use plans, and to increase tax revenue. It also offers the possibility of enhanced utilisation volume, particularly off-peak and reverse-flow riders. 3.3 Conservation, tourism and culture The Nkangala District offers considerable tourism potential (refer to figure .3.3.1). The economy of the eastern areas of the District is already growing due to the increasing popularity of tourist destinations in the Emakhazeni Municipality. The natural beauty, rural character and popularity of fly-fishing are the main attractions of this area. The north-western areas of the District also offer opportunities for tourism, through the consolidation of the various nature reserves and open spaces in this area. Figure 3.3.1: Spatial Structure and Economic Activities within NDM 9 The northern and eastern regions of the Nkangala District already offer a variety of tourism opportunities associated with the scenic qualities, wetlands and conservation). BACKGROUND AND BRIEF PROFILE OF NDM Nkangala District Municipality is one of the three (3) district municipalities in Mpumalanga Province, the place of the rising sun. The District is situated in the town called Middleburg, the cleanest town in the country, in Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, the municipality that has obtained clean audit for six (6) years consecutively. The District comprises of six (6) Local Municipalities, namely, Emakhazeni, Emalahleni, Dr JS Moroka, Thembisile, Victor Khanye and Steve Tshwete. Like the Province, Nkangala District Municipality is also a tourist attraction destination of choice through its natural scenic beauty escarpment and cultural heartland, such as the popular trout Triangle, made up of towns of Belfast, Dullstroom, machadordorp and waterval boven in Emakhazeni Local Municipalitity, which offer excellent trout finishing and Rock climbing facilities for Tourists, the colourful Ndebele. Geometric artwork and villages found in both Thembisile Hani and DR JS Moroka Municipalities respectively. The historical sites dating back to the Anglo-Boer war, the world famous stone circle museum in Waterval Boven and the Botshabelo mission station situated in the rural farming community of Dooringkop, in the Steve Tshwete municipality, the famous Delmas , in Victor Khanye Local Municipality, the coal mines and electricity powr sttions surrounding, Casino and Hotels in Emalahleni Municipality.
