The St Botolph Building Management Team In this issue SDS Roadshow Fathers Day Event Portico Updates Page 4 Page 5 Page 8 St Botolph Building Updates SDS Roadshow The SDS Roadshow was hosted in the East reception of the St Botolph Building on 21st June to help raise security awareness to all staff members in the building following the spate of recent terror attacks. Search Detect Secure, or SDS for short, is the UK’s leading supplier of search, detect and secure specialist security and counter terror equipment. The roadshow exhibited items that members of the public should be aware of, such as home made explosives and different kinds of suspect packages. The team also displayed where the St Botolph Building safe areas are, and where you should go in the event of an emergency. SDS were available to chat with members of staff to help answer any questions they may have and to offer tips on how to stay safe in public, in your car or taxi, on public transport and even at home. Please remember that should you see something that doesn’t seem quite right, please inform the authorities. Your action could help save lives! Emergency Services 999 Nearest Police Station (Bishopsgate) 020 7601 2222 Police Anti-Terrorist Hotline 0800 789 321 Game, Set, Match To celebrate the start of Wimbledon the Reception team handed out complimentary strawberries during the first week of the tournament to guests and staff members alike. These were so well received that it took longer to cut and package the fruit than it did to serve them. The Reception team received 18 punnets a day, only to see them vanish from our trays within seconds. Charity Drives Fathers Day Event: Artisan du Chocolat Fathers Day saw the St Botolph Building host master chocolatier Gerard Coleman’s Artisan du Chocolat. On 15th and 16th June, the team displayed their delicious wares in the area between the East and West reception areas and was able to collect £500, 10% of which was donated to Save the Children. Artisan du Chocolat is a highly acclaimed chocolate shop with a range of freshly prepared, uniquely flavoured treats, and was voted the Best UK Chocolatier at the first ever World Chocolate Awards. All of the chocolates are made entirely of natural ingredients (one of which is large quantities of sugar) and have to be consumed within two weeks – no nasty additives or preservatives here! While there’s no point singling one particular flavour out for special attention – every one of these hand-made delicacies is a real tongue- tingling delight – most customers became instantly addicted to a favourite combination that demands regular return visits. Wimbledon Event: Babelle Babelle was welcomed back to the St Botolph Building on 12th and 13th July, following their successful debut during our Valentine’s Day event back in February. Babelle introduced a new topping to some of their canelés - white chocolate and pistachios filled strawberries, inspired by Wimbledon. During setting up their stand in the East reception the Babelle team drew in a few crowds to see what was on offer. Harrods Magazine even quoted that “the canelé is poised to be the Next Baked Thing!” Babelle collected over £70 for our charity, Save the Children. Both Babelle and Artisan du Chocolat will be back later in the year, please see our events page for further details. Conrad 35 South Africa Front Office Reception - Portico How long have you been working for the company? I have been working for Portico for little over a year and have just celebrated my 1st year anniversary at the St Botolph Building. How would you describe a typical day in your job? Fun and interesting, sometimes challenging, but never boring. I enjoy the interaction I have meeting and greeting new and regular faces to the building. Tell us a bit about yourself. Well, originally from South Africa, but I have been living in London for the last 12 years, so would definitely say that this is home. I am a keen aviation enthusiast, and at the age of 17, even had the opportunity to land a commercial aircraft. What about hobbies? Travelling, photography, hiking/walking, scuba diving and adrenaline junkie. Where are you planning to go for holidays this year? I have pretty much covered every continent with the exception of Asia and South America. I have recently come back from a 3 week holiday to South Africa, where I got to see my family. I will soon be off to Turkey for a week, with my first trip to Asia next March. Iveta joined our team in February of this year and has since become a very knowledgeable and valuable member to the Reception team. She has been our Health and Safety Champion and has on many occasions assisted both her team and her manager with various tasks and presentations. She may be new to St Botolph but certainly is respected by her colleagues and the Management team. Please join us in congratulating her on this fantastic achievement and wish her all the very best of luck in the upcoming months. • Insurers Migrating South?
Insurers Migrating South? Latest research by Newton Perkins has identified a shifting of the sands within the EC3 postcode over Summer/Autumn as several high profile insurance occupiers have announced their intention to relocate to buildings south of the "Lloyds Triangle". Let’s start with a little background. The EC3 postcode has historically been, and remains, the focal point of the UK wholesale insurance sector. The London market wrote a staggering £17bn of premium business last year. The hub within EC3 is the iconic 1986 Richard Rogers designed Lloyd’s building on Lime Street. Many underwriters and higher profile brokers are only willing to consider offices in the immediate surrounds. The vicinity (known as the “Lloyd’s Triangle”) has maintained and indeed increased its allure for world leading insurers such as Willis and AON (to be joined shortly by W R Berkley with their so called "Scalpel" building) siting their HQ's overlooking Lloyd’s. Indeed, the lack of supply in the traditional “Triangle” is prompting top City rents to be paid even in locations just outside the traditional definition of the “Triangle” (such as Ascot Underwriting committing to £70 per sq ft for a floor at the new Canary Wharf/Land Securities development at 20 Fenchurch St). Our research has now confirmed a willingness to look outside the "Triangle“ and the attached map shows 15 of the more significant re- locations over the past two years. The latest affirmation was last month's confirmation of the pre-letting of half (85,000 sq ft) of 70 Mark Lane by Miller Insurance who will move from Jewry Street in 2015.
