Why Be Jewish?

A Shul Is Like a CSA

“What’s a CSA?” you ask. Sukkot, Yizkor, Simchat Torah — and My Father

The Guilt Script: Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda

I hear about feelings every day — among them sadness, of the grief process. It is especially acute in the event of fear, worry, embarrassment, anger. The ones that seem to suicide and addiction. cause the most sleepless nights? Guilt, shame, regret — Divorce: “I failed.” “I didn’t do enough.” “I did too much.” often all tied into one. Parenting: “I didn’t help enough with homework.” “I helped Jewish Guilt: the good side of it too much with homework.” “I wasn’t home enough.” “I was home too much.” We all know the stereotypes around Jewish guilt. Is Jewish guilt different from that of other cultures and religions? Self care: “I think too much about myself.” “I don’t think I find our experiences of guilt to be similar to and yet enough about myself.” different from those springing from other cultures and religions.
