APPOINTMENTS TO PRISON VISITING COMMITTEES

1 PURPOSE

1.1 The purpose of this report is to advise the Council on which members of the public, included in the “pool” of suitable candidates for Prison Visiting, have previous experience as a Prison Visitor and appoint the fourth member on the Glenochil Prison Visiting Committee.

2 SUMMARY

2.1 On 27 May 1999 the Council made appointments to Vale and Glenochil Over 21’s Prison Visiting Committees as follows:-

Cornton Vale Over 21’s Prison Visiting Committee

Mrs Isobel Foster, Ms Liz Thomson, Stirling Mrs Teresa Moraes, Stirling Mrs Alison Lambie, Thornhill, Stirling Mrs Julia Farrington, Dunblane Mrs Ellen Dickie, Stirling Mrs Noreen McFarlane,

Glenochil Over 21’s Prison Visiting Committee

Councillor Tom Hazel, Fallin Mrs Isobel Foster, Dunblane Mr Jim Buchanan,

2.2 The Council also agreed to continue consideration of the appointment of the fourth member to Glenochil Over 21’s Prison Visiting Committee to the next meeting of the Council.

3 RECOMMENDATION(S)

3.1 To agree to fill the vacancy on Glenochil Over 21’s Prison Visiting Committee.

4.1 Amongst those the Council appointed to Prison Visiting Committee on 27 May 1999 the undernoted persons have had previous experience as Prison Visitors.

4.2 The names of the following people are held in the “pool” of suitable candidates. None of the candidates have previous experience as a Member of a Prison Visiting Committee. On their application forms they indicated their preference for appointment to a Prison Visiting Committee as follows:-

5 POLICY IMPLICATIONS

5.1 The arrangements for filling vacancies on Prison Visiting Committees are in accordance with the Council’s strategic aims of Social Inclusion and the promotion of Local Democracy.

6 CONSULTATIONS

6.1 This report confirms the recommendations of the Appointments Panel (Prison Visiting).

7 RESOURCE IMPLICATIONS

7.1 The expenses of non-elected Members of Prison Visiting Committees are paid by the Scottish Prison Service.
