National X Relays 2013 “Our philosophy, regardless of age and ability is to encourage and support our members to achieve their goals in a competitive environment” October 2019

Not successful

• Volunteer support from our membership to support and stage our current club events • Achieve performances to be in ‘top four’ “track and field” clubs in over the next 4 years • Encourage more females of all ages to become active and competitive club members. Successful

• Achieve performances to be judged the top “off-track” club in Scotland in the next 4 years • Academy model for tiered training groups. • Re-energise relationships with key partners • All junior members regularly compete for the Club at an appropriate level Partnerships Partnerships 2. Capability Assessment Assessment Capability Multiple athletic activities for the development of core skills, movement and basic fitness NB This is a guide to suit most athletes in the club. Some may move as deemed appropriate by the Athlete Development Officer along with the relevant coaches at the different stages of their development Athlete Movement Criteria

• Attendance Record • Training Age • Chronological Age • Development Age • Attitude, Commitment and Discipline at training • Inter Club Competitive Activity (must compete at least on 4 occasions for the club during a season) • Athlete aspirations (for Event Group) • Athletic Ability (Coordination, strength, quality of movement, technical skills) n.b. Individual competitive performances are not one of the criteria used to determine the group a junior athlete should be in. Long Term Athlete Development - Benefits

• Good base structure to work from, backed by Scottish Athletics and Club Committee • Clear development process for all athletes, coaches and parents, from the Fundamentals through to training and competing to win • Prevents ‘cherry picking’ of athletes at a young age to avoid early specialisation • Based on a multi-event approach, widening competitive exposure • Better retention of athletes • Repairs the perception of being ‘elitist’, being all inclusive and having a ‘be the best you can be’ philosphy. LTAD Challenges

• Resistance to cultural change • Perceived to be Rigid – lack of flexibility • Athlete Movement disagreements • Doesn’t allow for early ‘talent’ identification and early specialisation • Divided opinions creating friction and conflict Junior Male Bronze National X Relays 2019 5.
