Ze względu na swoją złożoność i niepoznany do końca patomechanizm, jak również często występującą lekooporność, jest chorobą trudną do farmakoterapii, a dodatkowo obecnie stosowane leki przeciwpadaczkowe obarczone są wieloma, często poważnymi, działaniami niepożądanymi. Dlatego też istnieje duże zapotrzebowanie na nowe leki prze- ciwpadaczkowe, skuteczne w różnych typach padaczki, w tym w napadach lekoopornych. W ostatnim czasie poszukiwania nowych substancji leczniczych ukierunko- wane są na związki wielofunkcyjne, które oddziałując jednocześnie z wie- loma celami biologicznymi, mogą wykazywać synergiczny i komplekso- wy efekt leczniczy. Teoria ta znalazła zastosowanie i została potwierdzona w grupie hybrydowych substancji przeciwdrgawkowych, będących amido- wymi pochodnymi kwasów 2-(2,5-dioksopirolidyn-1-ylo)-alkilowych [1, 2]. Związki te charakteryzowały się szerokim spektrum aktywności w teście maksymalnego elektroszoku (MES), teście drgawek wywołanych podskór- nym podaniem pentetrazolu (scPTZ) oraz w drgawkach sześciohercowych (6-Hz), które uważane są za najważniejsze testy przedkliniczne, identyfiku- jące kandydatów do stosowania nowych, skutecznych leków przeciwpadacz- kowych. Prezentowane badania stanowią kontynuację prac chemiczno-farmakolo- gicznych w grupie hybrydowych substancji przeciwdrgawkowych pochod- nych pirolidyno-2,5-dionu. W efekcie zaprojektowano i w wyniku kilkueta- powego postępowania syntetycznego otrzymano serię analogów opisanych wcześniej hybryd, charakteryzujących się obecnością w strukturze che- micznej dodatkowego pierścienia aromatycznego. Wyniki badań farmako- logicznych in vivo pokazały, iż tego typu modyfikacja spowodowała istotne zwiększenie aktywności we wszystkich wymienionych powyżej modelach drgawek padaczkowych. MATERIAŁY KONFERENCYJNE COLLEGIUM MEDICUM UJ – ABSTRAKTY 9 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ VERONIKA ALEKSANDROVYCH*, MICHAŁ WOLNICKI**, KRZYSZTOF GIL* * DEPARTMENT OF PATHOPHYSIOLOGY, JAGIELLONIAN UNIVERSITY, MEDICAL COLLEGE; ** DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRIC UROLOGY, JAGIELLONIAN UNIVERSITY, MEDICAL COLLEGE _______________________________________________________________________________________ The Role of Interstitial Cajal-Like Cells in the Ureteropelvic Junction in the Development of Congenital Megaureter in Children Introduction: Interstitial cells of Cajal play an important role in the regula- tion of gut motility. Similar cells, called interstitial Cajal-like cells (ICLC), are present in the urinary tract. We assume that ICLC play an important role in propagation and regulation of ureteral peristalsis, thus changes in the ICLC density in ureteral wall might be responsible for the development of mega- ureter and hydronephrosis. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the location of ICLC in the renal pelvis and ureteral wall using histopathological methods in children with obstructive and refluxing megaureter. Methods: The data from (15 and 10 patients, respectively) were compared. Samples of renal pelvis and proximal ureter were subjected to immunofluo- rescence staining to detect ICLC (CD117) and interstitial plexus neurons (PGP 9.5). Toluidine blue staining for mast cells detection and Masson’s trichrome staining – for collagen deposits were used additionally. Results: The c-Kit receptor (CD117) positive cells were detected in renal pel- vis and ureter. Spindle interstitial cells (ICLC) were present in the tunica muscularis, along neurovascular septa, in between smooth muscle bundles and in urothelium. The density of ICLC and proportion of smooth muscle were lower in the refluxing megaureter. The number of mast cells was in- creased in the obstructive megaureter. There were no differences in the neu- ron count between groups examined. Conclusions: The differences in the histopathological aspects provide in- formation on the possible pathophysiology of obstructive and refluxing megaureters. Serine or anthranilic acid was used at the concentrations of 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75 g/L of medium. Determination of indole compounds in the obtained biomass was carried out using thin-layer chromatography (TLC) with densitometric detection. In every analyzed sample, presence of serine or anthranilic acid was studied. Comparison of the results obtained for the treatment and control samples allowed us to determine the optimum concentration of serine or anthranilic acid in the medium in order to obtain biomass with increased content of indole compounds. A. bisporus with addition of anthranilic acid or serine to the medium at the concentration of 0.5 g/L was the most beneficial. In the case of Imleria badia, anthranilic acid at the concentration of 0.5 g/L was the most optimal. This is the first report demonstrating the content of indole derivatives in biomass affected by their precursors (serine or anthranilic acid). The study indicates that modification of the medium can provide satisfactory results, and it is worth to search for its new, improved compositions.

The research was conducted on 10 species of mushrooms belonging to three families: Boletaceae, Russulaceae, and Suillaceae. Using a spatial autoregressive model, the study showed a strong relationship between heavy metal concentrations (especially Zn, Pb, and Cd) and the distance from a source of industrial pollution (a zinc smelter, Huta Miasteczko Sl´ ˛askie).The concentrations of potentially toxic metals (Pb and Cd) in mushrooms significantly exceeded food-acceptable standards.

In the 1830s, some academic mycologists started information campaigns to teach people about edible mushrooms. This propaganda met with sturdy resistance from rural people. Even at the beginning of the last century, mushrooms were still only being occasionally eaten, and mostly by the gentry. During the twentieth century, the Swedish urban middle class accepted mushrooms as food and were closely followed by the working-class people. A few individuals became connoisseurs, but most people limited themselves to one or two taxa. The chanterelle, Cantharellus cibarius Fr., was (and still is) the most popular species. It was easy to recognize, and if it was a good mushroom season and the mushroomer was industrious, considerable amounts could be harvested and preserved or, from the late 1950s, put in the freezer. The aim of this study is to review the historical background of the changes in attitude towards edible mushrooms and to record today’s thriving interest in mushrooming in Sweden. Methods: A questionnaire was sent in October and November 2017 to record contemporary interest in and consumption of mushrooms in Sweden. In total, 100 questionnaires were returned. The qualitative analysis includes data extracted from participant and non-participant observations, including observations on activities related to mushroom foraging posted on social media platforms, revealed through open-ended interviews and in written sources.

The greatest 137Cs activity of 575 Bq kg-1 was detected in the species Boletus edulis, which is just below the permitted limit in its native state. In contrast, the detected activity level was only 316 Bq kg-1 in the mushroom Imleria badia, which is reported to be associated with the highest cumulative capability of all fungi species. However, differences in mean contamination values were not significant (p <0.05) due to high variability. It was shown that activity concentration is not dependent on the weight (size) of Imleria badia. Our results also confirmed the generally well known lower 137Cs activity in Russula species belonging to the group of gill-bearing or lamella-bearing mushrooms.   • Isle of Wight Wildlife Recording Challenge 2020
    Isle of Wight Wildlife Recording Challenge 2020 Here is the complete list of flora and fauna recorded during my self-set wildlife recording challenge. My aim was to see 2020 species on the Isle of Wight during the year and despite the lockdown it was a success with 2211 species recorded and two where two subspecies were recorded. Ten aggregate taxa were included where identification to species was not possible. The list includes naturalised non-native species, accidentally introduced species, a few free-living escapes, feral species and one deliberate introduction. More than 1850 species were photographed. A number of species on the list had not been recorded previously on the Isle of Wight. These new county records are highlighted in pink. Several more, potentially new species that are still to be checked, are highlighted in orange. Blue text indicates species I hadn’t seen before. Species are listed by taxonomic group with the date and location of the first record of the year. Some were recorded on many occasions throughout the year. I am immensely grateful for the help and support I received throughout the year. Keeping me up to date with news, specimens, moth nights, tips on where to look for plants, forays and particularly help with plant identification. Hopefully there aren’t any mistakes but if there are, they are entirely my own.
