The Valentine’s Day Challenge Update: We are at the half-way mark of the challenge. How are we doing? We have received positive feedback from both givers and receivers. We still have seven or eight days to contact fourteen people to show them we care! Let’s do it! As our lifestyle is still limited by the restrictions of COVID, it remains important to keep in touch with those we care about; those who are part of our lives, in large or small ways.

Please accept the following challenge: Between now and February 14th, contact 14 people or families that you care about and tell them so. (That's only 1 per day!) It can be a phone call, email, text, card, letter, Zoom, Skype. Let's show our , concern, and care for one another at a time when loneliness, depression and despair may be present. It is a simple, easy St. Valentine gesture. We can make a difference!

A Little History about Valentine He is officially known as Saint Valentine of , a third-century Roman saint whose feast day is celebrated on February 14 and commonly associated with "." One common story about St. Valentine is that he was presented with a judge's blind daughter and told to restore her sight. If he succeeded, the judge vowed to do anything for Valentine. Placing his hands onto her eyes, Valentine restored the child's vision. Judge Asterius was humbled and obeyed Valentine's requests. Other depictions tell that he secretly married couples so husbands would not have to go to war. Whoever he was, Valentine did really exist, because archaeologists have unearthed a Roman catacomb and an ancient church dedicated to St. Valentine. In 496 AD Gelasius marked February 14th as a celebration in honor of his martyrdom. St. Valentine is the of engaged couples, happy , love, lovers, and young people.

February 11,2021 World Day of the Sick Health care is uppermost in most of our minds these days as the pandemic continues to alter and challenge us as a society. The words of Matthew 11.28 come to mind: “Come to me , all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Catholic Health Care – An Enduring Mission appears in this month’s Living with Christ and reminds us of the many special people who serve in the health care profession with courage, strength, and hope. Let us remember to pray for those who are sick; in body, mind, or spirit, and for those who care for them.

World Mission Sunday Collection Missionary Sunday World Mission Sunday has been celebrated since 1926 as a universal parish encounter to bring spiritual and material assistance to those who long for the love of Christ. This liturgical event reminds all baptized Catholics of their responsibility to share in the global missionary work of the Church through Eucharistic celebrations, prayers, and collections. Parishioners of the Diocese of London have always generously supported this universal collection as mandated by the Holy Father for it promotes our unity as a human family enabling the life-giving presence of missionaries and of the Church among the suffering and the poor. Donations to support the missions of the Holy Father are greatly appreciated in mission churches that do not have the means to sustain themselves, especially through this pandemic. Help us ensure Pontifical Missions get the support they need. Please send your mission support and donations to your parish and become a missionary today! Please clearly mark on your cheque that funds support World Mission Sunday. World Mission Sunday collection will take place until February 6/7.
