Pope Francis has named Father Louis Tylka, a priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago as the Coadjutor Bishop of Peoria. Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, CSC is the current bishop of Peoria, and the appointment as coadjutor bishop confers on Bishop-elect Tylka the right of succession for the Diocese of Peoria. Bishop Jenky explained that over a year ago he had begun to experience mobility problems because of arthritis and spinal issues and had asked Pope Francis to appoint a coadjutor to help in the administration of the diocese. The Bishop stated, “Tylka has worked in parishes for his entire 24 years of priesthood. He will bring enormous talent, zeal, and a warm personality to the service of God and neighbor here in Central Illinois.” “I am extremely grateful to the Pope for granting my request and sending us this good shepherd,” Jenky said. Bishop-elect Tylka was born on May 26, 1970, in Harvey, Illinois, and ordained to the priesthood on May 18, 1996, for the Archdiocese of Chicago. The coadjutor bishop-elect said he was “flabbergasted” by the news of his appointment. “I am both overwhelmed and humbled by the Holy Father’s faith in me and in that spirit accept this calling from the Lord and His Church,” he said. “My heart is also filled with gratitude to Almighty God for the gift of faith and the gift of the Church,” Tylka stated. “I pray the Holy Spirit will continue to sustain me so that I respond generously to the Lord’s call.” Because of these unusual times, it prevents him from being able to serve in the diocese right now, but he looks forward to the appointment. Please pray for our Bishop-Elect. Keep him, as well as Bishop Jenky, in your prayers. Congratulations to our 2020 Graduates!!! THE ROSARY IN MAY: The month of May is the "month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady," and it is the occasion for a "moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world honor Our Queen of Heaven. During this month Christians, both in church and in the privacy of the home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration. In this month, too, the benefits of God's mercy come down to us from her throne in greater abundance" (Pope St. Paul VI: Encyclical on the Month of May, no. 1). Throughout this month, I encourage all of you to pray the rosary every day. Thank you! ~Fr.
