Honestly, a lot of obstacles that the authors face in conducting research on the existence of the sling in a past life Minangkabau people in West Sumatra. Difficulty The first is related to the search for written sources about use of the sling in society, very few books a book that alludes to talk of the sling, even if there is, the discussion is only about one paragraph. The source of the writing was obtained from Dutch writers and writers Indonesia, which is generally related to history war, especially traditional war traditions or nagari wars, and priest war. The second difficulty relates to oral sources, it turns out that there are very few people in West Sumatra today who knows about the traditional slingshot weapon. There have been enough people the writer/researcher has met for conducted an interview about the sling, but at the beginning their conversation immediately admitted that they did not know about sling. The informants who were successfully interviewed by the writer were people who can use traditional weapons slingshot, but most of them can't make it. Information about the use of the sling they put forward related to agricultural interests. The sling became a weapon for farmers to repel monkeys, pigs, and humans disturbing the farm site they. While the information on the use of a sling in the the war of independence and fights between villages to the late 1950s, it was acknowledged by informants that all sourced from the stories of old people in their village. Background There are many historical collections at UPTD Museum Adityawarman, West Sumatra Province. some of that collection is the weapons that have been used by community and even produced in various nagari in West Sumatra, such as slings, cannons, klewang swords, swords, portuguese pistols, samurai swords and rifles. Nonetheless the story around those weapons is still not widely known, let alone a reference or museum documents. One of the unexplored weapons it is a traditional slingshot weapon. Slingshot included in the Minangkabau traditional weapons group which have lived in the history of Minangkabau culture. The shape is very simple, but the projectile ejection power (usually stone) is very strong, until it makes a sound hum, so that the affected target will feel excruciating pain, or even "deadly". Nowadays, in various regions in Indonesia, the slingshot is known as traditional game, as well as a tool for hunting animals and fighting (Hamzuri and Siregar, 1998: 82). Minangkabau society (West Sumatra) partly mostly inhabit rural areas or mostly live in the traditions of farming communities in various villages. each each village has its own way and intelligence in defending themselves from all threats against oneself, as well as threats against all kinds of enemies of their agricultural produce. In a context like this it is believed, that one of the traditional weapons used to protect themselves, as well as a repellent and hurt the enemy, then the presence of the sling becomes a part in the life of the community. 1 ` Page 8 Nopriyasman and Syafrizal: The History of Traditional Weapons Slingshot in Minangkabau On the basis of that thought, the story of the community in behind its use, including the question of origin, inheritance pattern expertise in using a slingshot weapon, and messages historical message representation of the use of a sling by community becomes important to be explored and known by society. Formulation of the problem Main questions asked to look for the answer regarding the sling of the rope is formulated the following. 1. What are the historical dimensions of the inner sling? historical records of the war in Minangkabau (Sumatra West)? 2. What is the experience of the people of the nagari in using a slingshot weapon in historical perspective? 3. Research purposes In general, this research aims to explain the historicity of the traditional weapon of the sling Minangkabau; revealing the reality of cultural products the creativity of the Minangkabau nagari children; and weapons philosophy traditional Minangkabau (West Sumatra). Temporary Therefore, the specific purpose of this research is to explain the origin of the slingshot weapon in Minangkabau; explain the experiences of the people of the nagari-nagari in using a slingshot weapon in a historical perspective; and explain the historical impact and meaning of the manufacture and use of the sling. 1.4. Benefits of research Theoretically, this research can be useful for understand the community of nagari-nagari in Minangkabau and increase knowledge of culture and history in multidimensional
