Honestly, a lot of obstacles that the authors face in conducting research on the existence of the sling in a past life Minangkabau people in West Sumatra. Difficulty The first is related to the search for written sources about use of the sling in society, very few books a book that alludes to talk of the sling, even if there is, the discussion is only about one paragraph. The source of the writing was obtained from Dutch writers and writers Indonesia, which is generally related to history war, especially traditional war traditions or nagari wars, and priest war. The second difficulty relates to oral sources, it turns out that there are very few people in West Sumatra today who knows about the traditional slingshot weapon. There have been enough people the writer/researcher has met for conducted an interview about the sling, but at the beginning their conversation immediately admitted that they did not know about sling. The informants who were successfully interviewed by the writer were people who can use traditional weapons slingshot, but most of them can't make it. Information about the use of the sling they put forward related to agricultural interests. The sling became a weapon for farmers to repel monkeys, pigs, and humans disturbing the farm site they.

[email protected] Article History accepted 16/10/2020 approved 05/12/2020 published 07/02/2021 Abstract The culture of the Minangkabau tribes in West Sumatra has existed since ancient times. One of the masterpieces of architectural cultural heritage that characterizes Minangkabau is the rumah gadang, which is a traditional building belonging to the Minangkabau tribes, which is beautiful, of high value and full of meaning. This information is not widely known by the Indonesian people, especially people outside Indonesia. While the architecture of the rumah gadang is decreasing, it requires media, where people can get various information about the rumah gadang. In the era of the digital technology revolution, various communication technologies were born in the form of various applications that can be used as a means of social media. One of them is the Instagram application, where users can exchange information, especially through photos, videos and other information so that the observer (followers) gets various images. The research method used is the virtual ethnographic method, by making virtual observations through the Instagram application.

  • Map I. Southern Sumatra, Showing Location of Six of the Early Srivijaya
Map I. Southern Sumatra, showing location of six of the early Srivijaya inscriptions EARLY POLITIES IN SOUTHERN SUMATRA: SOME PRELIMINARY OBSERVATIONS BASED ON ARCHAEOLOGICAL EVIDENCE* E. Edwards McKinnon Introduction While it is known from historical sources that certain polities existed in southern Sumatra during the late first and early second millennium AD, it has been difficult to establish conclusive archaeological evidence concerning them. These circumstances have arisen for several reasons, among the most important being lack of any systematic search for archaeological remains in the region, the terrain itself, and insufficient knowledge of ancient demography. Most archaeological sites in the area have been known since the nineteenth or early twentieth centuries, when they were reported by travelers or colonial administrators, such as John Anderson or L. C. Westenenk. Since then, however, much of the earlier evidence has been destroyed. Sites have been plundered for building materials and have all but disappeared, and images have been removed to museums for safekeeping without accurate records being made of their original locations. There are a limited number of key sites in the Musi and Batang Hari river valleys which have not been examined by professional archaeologists for over half a century and which may still reveal valuable information about earlier times. In addition, habitation sites have been recognized more recently in the lower reaches of both rivers which will enable archaeologists to make a much more comprehensive assessment of cultural interaction in the region than has been possible hitherto. The first professionally conducted excavation was carried out in Palembang only in 1974. Since 1982, however, there have been limited but extremely useful excavations at Muara Jambi.

  • The Islamic Concept of Feminism in Siger Lampung
THE ISLAMIC CONCEPT OF FEMINISM IN SIGER LAMPUNG Bahrudin Yusuf Zen Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Tarbiyah Bustanul Ulum Lampung Tengah E-mail : [email protected] Abstract Lampung is a province located in the South end of Sumatra island. People will find a glamorous and big icon in yellow color called Siger when they enter the gate of this province. Siger is the symbol of honor for people in Lampung. Unfortunately, there are various kinds of violence suffered by women in this province. Those violence practices include harsh treatment, rape, and common law which verily not beneficial for women. Based on this phenomenon, this research tries to depict the real meaning of Siger as the symbol of honor for Lampung society as well as its relevance toward Islamic concept. After being analyzed using a Library Research approach, it can be concluded that Sigercarries the deep values of feminism and it indicates the concept of gender equality. Those feminism values, then, reflected in society life so the feminine characteristics which full of care, respect, tender and polite become more preferred in daily living. However, the concept carried in Siger also has the relevance toward Islamic concept that reveals the same case. Keywords: Siger, Feminism, Gender Equality, Islamic Concept A. Introduction Recently, the Islamic studies become more interesting and it appears in large scale along with the presence of gender discourse in Islamic studies itself. This issue was sounded by feminism group who demand on equal women rights as the men.
