The International Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex (LGBTI) Pride Coordinators Interpride History – Spring 1981 The International Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex (LGBTI) Pride Coordinators InterPride History – Spring 1981 Rick Turner (NY) and Marsha H. Levine (Boston) met at a Gay and Lesbian leadership conference in Los Angeles. While discussing common issues that both of their Pride organizations faced, they agreed it would be great if someday all Pride groups could get together. InterPride History –1982 • Doug Moore from San Diego created the first complete list of nationally known pride organizations. • Marsha worked to pull together the first meeting and on Columbus Day weekend in Boston, Chicago and San Francisco joined New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Diego, thus comprising the 6 original cities of (what is now) InterPride. InterPride History –1983 San Diego – In just one year, attendance increased to about 60 delegates, the original 6 cities were joined by newcomers from Las Vegas, Phoenix, Wichita, Albuquerque, and Atlanta. Many InterPride traditions began in San Diego… • The first national theme ("Unity and More in '84") • First banquet • First keynote speaker InterPride History –1984 Wichita hosted the 3rd annual conference • Wichita's first (illegal) Pride parade was held in the parking lot of the Bombay Bicycle Club. • The organization was rechristened 'International' with the participation of Canada. • Morris Kight made his famous proposal that we all change our dates and gather together to host Stonewall 25 in 1994, a global cultural celebration. InterPride History - Highlights 1986 - Created by-laws, incorporated IAL/GPC, and election of a regional Board of Directors. 1987 -The site of the 6th annual conference was switched to Baltimore so people could attend the 1987 March on Washington after the conference. InterPride History –1992 1992 – The conference took place in Long Beach, California and was co-hosted for the first time when Long Beach and Christopher Street West together. This conference welcomed the first European attendees representing Amsterdam and Germany 1997 – The conference was hosted by Heritage of Pride, NY and was the first to have substantial participation from international committees, including attendees from Africa, South America, the Middle East, New Zealand and Australia. InterPride History –1998+ • The conference moved overseas for the first time, to Glasgow, Scotland. • The conference has since been held outside North America in: Zurich, Switzerland Reykjavik, Iceland Auckland, New Zealand Brussels, Belgium InterPride Now InterPride’s Vision is a world where there is full cultural, social and legal equality for all.     LGBTQIA+ Rights JustNow timeline cards set Created by: Annemarie Kelpe, Friederike Hobein, Sera Ria Gomes The “JustNow – A Toolbox for Teaching Human Rights” project is focused on the development of methodological-didactical materials relating to human rights education, combined with simulation games and diversity learning in non-formal and formal youth educational work. This timeline cards set focuses on teaching about the evolution of the LGBTQIA+ Rights (movement) through history up until today, covering some key milestones, leading figures, events, legislation and organizations. The cards can be used in history or civic education, or in other non-formal education settings. Where possible, it is advised that educators supplement the cards with local (history) examples. The cards were created using images and information researched online, with sources noted on the back of the cards. International borders closed and domestic travel froze. Meetings, conventions and public events were postponed or canceled. While we effectively minimized the spread of Covid-19 in New York City, thousands of our loved ones, friends, neighbors and colleagues have lost their lives to the virus.     HISTORY COLORS ELEMENTS PROMOTION TICKETS MAKING HISTORY 46 years after a riot at the Stonewall Inn, the Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples can marry nationwide, establishing a new civil right and handing a historic victory to gay rights advocates that's worth celebrating. HISTORY: June 28, 1969 marks the beginning of the Stonewall Uprising, a series of events between police and LGBTQ+ protesters which would fundamentally change the nature of LGBTQ+ activism in the United States. Heritage of Pride is a nonprofit organization that plans and produces New York City’s official LGBT Pride events each year to commemorate the Stonewall Riots of 1969 — the beginning of the modern Gay Rights movement. Heritage of Pride works toward a future without discrimination where all people have equal rights under the law. We do this by producing LGBT Pride events that inspire, educate, commemorate and celebrate our diverse community.
