Spaulding discovered the club through Hartman, who had gone to the club one time before and was taught the fundamentals of chess as a kid from his father. Hartman hopes to learn more chess theory and break down the game during his time in the club. “You can have the same opening over and over,” Hartman said. “The game is just so complex, so it’s just fun to look at new options and find new challenges and meet new people.” PHOTO BY LUCY MORANTZ THE COLLEGIAN Lory Student Center Suite 118 Fort Collins, CO 80523 overheard on the plaza DJ SCHEDULE This publication is not an official publication of Colorado State University, but is published by an independent corporation using the name ‘The Rocky Mountain Collegian’ pursuant to a license granted by “That’s how my life is: covered in lint.” CSU.
