(040) 853 88 888 ∙ www.fkpscorpio.com PRESSEMITTEILUNG 07.04.2016 Sam Beam (of Iron & Wine) & Jesca Joop im September auf Tour „Love Letter for Fire“ ist der Titel des gemeinsamen Albums von Sam Beam, dem Mastermind hinter Iron & Wine, und Jesca Hoop. Die beiden tauchen dabei tief in die Tradition gemischter Duette ein, in deren inhaltlichem Zentrum, wie so oft, die Liebe in allen Facetten steht. Schon seit einiger Zeit hat Beam Songs für eine Frau und einen Mann geschrieben, fand aber nie eine entsprechende musikalische Partnerin. Bis er Hoop und ihren iTunes-Katalog entdeckte. Beide hatten vorher nie mit einem anderen Musiker Stücke geschrieben, dennoch wurde daraus eine kongeniale Zusammenarbeit. Die beiden trafen sich, lernten sich näher kennen, und auf Sams Frage, ob man vielleicht eine EP produzieren wolle, antworte Jesca mit einem bestimmten „Nö, aber ein ganzes Album“. Eine ganze Platte voller Duette, die das Songwriting-Talent des Paares zeigt, das deren einzelne Stile so wunderbar zusammenfasst. Zusammen mit ihrer eigens für die Aufnahmen zusammengestellten Band – einem Dream Team, wie Beam es nennt, bestehend aus Rob Burger (Mitglied von Iron & Wine), Sebastian Steinberg (Soul Coughing, Fiona Apple), Teddy Rankin-Parker (Primus), Eyvind Kang (Decemberists) und Glenn Kotche (Wilco) – entstand mit „Love Letter for Fire“ ein fantastisches Album mit großen Songs zwischen energischem Pop-Appeal und introspektivem Folk rund um das wichtigste Thema der Welt.     Jesca Hoop – Memories Are Now (39:02, LP, Subpop, 2017) Jesca Hoop ist eine amerikanische Künstlerin, die hierzulande leider noch als Geheimtipp gilt. Dabei hat sie schon mit allerhand namhaften Künstlern zusammengearbeitet. Dazu zählen Guy Garvey (Elbow) und die Band Shearwater. Für Peter Gabriel stand sie während seiner „New Blood“-Tour als Background-Sängerin auf der Bühne. Auf ihrem neuen Album „Memories Are Now“ stellt sie dann auch insbesondere ihre Qualitäten als Sängerin in den Vordergrund. Hier spielt Jesca Hoop ohne Zweifel in einer Liga mit Damen wie Tori Amos oder Kate Bush. Viele der Stücke sind karg und minimalistisch instrumentiert und leben in erster Linie von Hoops Stimme und den mehrstimmigen Arrangements. Ebenfalls zu Jesca Hoops Markenzeichen gehört es, sich stilistisch nicht festzulegen. So hört man auf „Memories Are Now“ eine bunte Mischung aus Art-Pop, Folk, Indie-Rock, Country und Blues mit deutlichem Hang zu Experimenten. Höhepunkte sind das akustische „The Lost Sky“, das kantig experimentelle „Animal King Chaotic“ und das abschließende „The Coming“, in dem Jesus höchstpersönlich als Retter der Menschheit abdankt. Nicht nur bei diesem Song zeigt sich, dass Hoop auch eine exzellente Texterin ist. Zeilen wie „Human kind wiped out by rise in drone, take back control, fightin‘ killin‘ by remote contol …“ (‚Animal King Chaotic‘) sprechen für sich. Es lohnt sich also, die Texte mitzulesen. Das intellektuelle Amerika ist noch existent. Wie beim Label Subpop üblich, gibt es „Memories Are Now“ auch als sogenannte Loser-Edition, limitiert auf Bronze-farbenem Vinyl. Hierzulande ist diese Version beispielsweise über Finest Vinyl bestellbar. So sieht dieser akustische Leckerbissen auch optisch ausgesprochen gut aus.
