TRAFFIC, Doğal Hayatı Koruma Vakfı (WWF) ve IUCN – Dünya Doğayı Koruma Birliği tarafından yürütülen bir ortak programdır. TRAFFIC, yaban hayatı ticaretinin hem sürdürülebilir düzeylerde hem de ulusal ve uluslararası kanunlar ve anlaşmalara uygun şekilde yürütüldüğünü garanti altına almaya yardımcı olmayı amaçlamaktadır. 1976 yılında kurulan TRAFFIC, şu anda yedi bölgesel program halinde teşkilatlanmış 21 ofisten meydana gelen bir ağ durumundadır. CEC Çevresel İşbirliği Komisyonu (CEC), Kanada, Meksika ve ABD’nin üyesi olduğu bir uluslararası organizasyondur. CEC, Kuzey Amerika Çevre İşbirliği Anlaşması (NAAEC) kapsamında oluşturulmuştur. NAAEC’in hedefleri arasında, hem çevrenin korunması ve zenginleştirilmesi için bölgesel işbirliklerinin kurulması hem de ulusal kanunlar ve politikalar ile ulusal anlaşmaların yürürlüğe koyulması bulunmaktadır. Nesli Tehlike Altında Olan Yabani Hayvan ve Bitki Türlerinin Uluslararası Ticaretine İlişkin Sözleşme (CITES), aynı zamanda Washington Sözleşmesi olarak da bilinmektedir ve hem tüm Kanadalıların hem de gezegenimizi paylaştığımız yabani türlerin yaşamları üzerinde etkilidir. CITES’i imzalayan her yeni ülkeyle birlikte, yabani türleri korumaya yönelik uluslararası gayretler de güçlenmektedir. CITES’de imzası olan taraflardan biri haline gelmek, birçok sorumluluk gerektirmektedir. Tarafların her biri, Sözleşme’nin uygulanmasında aktif şekilde görev alacak olan bir idari kurum, bilimsel yetkililer ve bir dolandırıcılık önleme birimi atamalıdır. CITES’in yürürlüğe koyulması kapsamındaki görevlerin – gerekli izin belgelerinin verilmesi ve onaylanması, malların denetlenmesi, canlı hayvanlarla ilgilenilmesi ve yeterince dayanıklı olmayan türevlerin düzgün şekilde saklanması – hepsi de vasıflı ve ilgili çalışanların varlığını gerektirmektedir. CITES taraflarının hiçbiri çok sıkı bir sınır kontrolünü güvence altına almak için gereken insan ve para kaynağını ayırabilecek durumda olmadığından, her bir CITES idaresi amacına ulaşabilmek için diğer kurum ve kuruluşlarla birlikte çalışmalıdır. Bu kurum ve kuruluşlar, Sözleşme’nin ve onu yöneten mevzuatın gerekliliklerini destekleyen farklı yetkilere sahiptir. Bu kurum ve kuruluşlar genellikle gereken vasıflara sahip olmadıklarını ve CITES uygulamalarını uzmanlara bırakmanın daha iyi olacağını düşünürler. Aksine, CITES yaptırımlarından sorumlu olan kişilerin çoğu, ister gümrük, polis ya da koruma memuru ister bitki ve hayvan ürünleri denetçileri olsunlar, örneklerin teşhisi ve izin belgelerinin kontrolü gibi birçok temel görevi yerine getirebilmektedir. Kanada Çevre Bakanlığı, ileri düzeyde bir eğitim gerektirmeyen ve kullanımı kolay olan bir dizi kılavuz geliştirmiştir. Bu kılavuzlar, ön büro personelinin kontrol altındaki malların sınır ötesi hareketlerini etkin şekilde kontrol edebilmelerine yardımcı olmak üzere tasarlanmıştır. Kaplumbağalar hakkındaki bu kılavuz, Meksika’daki (PROFEPA) meslektaşlarımızla işbirliği içinde hazırlanmıştır. Yoğun çaba ve kaynakların bu şekilde bir araya getirilmesi sonucunda yüksek kalitede bir ürün ortaya çıkmıştır. Umarım bu kılavuz, yabani türlerin yasadışı ticaretini önleme gayretlerinizde sizi motive eder ve uluslararası ticaret nedeniyle tehlike altına girmiş olan hayvanların korunmasına katkı sağlar.     MINISTERIO DEL AMBIENTE Y DE LOS RECURSOS NATURALES En el mes de junio de 1992, en el marco de la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo, Venezuela suscribió el Convenio sobre la Diversidad Biológica, el cual fue ratificado por el entonces Congreso de la República en el año 1994 por lo que es una ley aprobatoria. La aplicación de este Convenio significó un cambio conceptual al reconocer a los Estados sus derechos soberanos sobre los recursos biológicos, y al declarar la conservación de la diversidad biológica como patrimonio de la humanidad e impuso a las Partes contratantes un conjunto de obligaciones entre las que se encuentra la elaboración del “Informe de País” que hoy presentamos ante la Conferencia de las Partes. En este sentido, y atendiendo los lineamientos establecidos sobre el contenido y presentación del informe, se ha preparado un documento que incluye un estudio sobre la magnitud de la diversidad biológica presente en el país, que lo hace uno de los diez primeros países megadiversos del planeta condición que nos obliga en el conocimiento, conservación y uso sustentable de tan valioso recurso para el futuro de la humanidad. Consideramos importante resaltar que en la recién promulgada Constitución de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela se establece como una obligación de Estado la conservación y defensa de la Diversidad Biológica y a demás se reconoce el valor de los conocimientos ancestrales que poseen las comunidades indígenas, sobre la biodiversidad presente en las tierras que ocupan por lo que tendrán derecho a obtener beneficios derivados de la utilización de sus conocimientos tradicionales.

They formed about 4 million years ago when a series of underwater volcanoes erupted, spewing up magma that cooled to form the cone-shaped islands. When the islands first formed they were devoid of life, but over time animal and plant species colonized them, producing the ecological communities that exist there today. Colonization of the islands took place over time by several modes of transportation.

Ochoa1,2, and Juan M. Pérez-Iglesias2,3 Abstract. Turtles represent one of the most threatened groups of vertebrates. Habitat loss by expansion of the agricultural frontier, exploitation and unregulated trade are the primary causes for sharp declines in many turtle species. Chelonoidis chilensis is a widespread turtle having the broadest distribution in South American continent, it has recently been reclassified from threatened to vulnerable. Considering this, it is necessary to search for non-invasive study methods that allow us to safely assess its ecological traits and monitor its populations. The objective of this work was to evaluate abundance and activity patterns of C. chilensis, using conventional and non-invasive methodologies in different years and vegetation types in Sierra de las Quijadas National Park. Conventional methodology consisted in sampling a study area through 5m width visual detection transects, placed one adjacent to another, involving a total of 168 transects (216 has). This sampling was repeated twice, with a one-year interval. Non-invasive novelty methodology consisted of using ten camera traps that were installed for two years. Turtle frequency in different vegetation types, activity patterns according to temperature and sex ratio were determined. The abundance of C. chilensis registered was 0.027 (in 2016) and 0.036 turtles/ha (in 2017). Temporal activity, observed through camera-traps, was detected between 25 to 40 °C and from 8 am to 8 pm.

Oocysts are ovoid to almost spherical, 10.6 (8-12) × 8.9 (7-10) µm, without micropyle, polar granule and oocyst residuum. One conically stretched end and three blunt conical tubercles at the opposite end of oocyst give it mitra-like appearance. Sporocysts are elongated, ellipsoidal, 7.2 (6-8) × 4.1 (4-4.5) µm, with a small, knob-like Stieda body and sporocyst residuum composed of fine granules. To avoid possible conspecificity, the described new species is thoroughly compared with the most similar coccidium, E. mitraria, collected from its type host, Chinemys reevesii.
