Degrees at all levels, from vocational certificates to Master’s degrees, allow individuals to enjoy greater economic and social success. In fact, individuals with a bachelor’s degree will earn over $1.3 million more over their lifetimes than someone with only a high school diploma. For first-generation, low income and minority students, access to college opportunity yields a pathway to increased economic stability and prosperity for future generations. The jobs of the future require college credentials. By 2020, 65% of all jobs across the United States will require some type of college credential. The same holds true for the State of California: 68% of all jobs by 2020 will require future workers to have college credentials. Elsinore fault zone, Glen Ivy section (Class A) No. 126c Last Review Date: 1998-12-01 citation for this record: Treiman, J.A., compiler, 1998, Fault number 126c, Elsinore fault zone, Glen Ivy section, in Quaternary fault and fold database of the United States: U.S. Geological Survey website, https://earthquakes.usgs.gov/hazards/qfaults, accessed 12/14/2020 02:16 PM. Synopsis General: A major dextral strike-slip fault zone that is part of the San Andreas fault system. Research studies have been done to assess faulting on most of the sections, and have documented Holocene activity for the length of the fault zone with a slip rate around 4–5 mm/yr. Multiple events have only been dated on the Whittier fault and Glen Ivy North fault strand, so interaction between faults and adjacent sections is not well-known. Multiple strands within several sections mean that the studies are not always fully representative of the whole section. Numerous consulting reports (not summarized herein) that have addressed location and recency of faulting are on file with the State of California, California Geological Survey, as part of the records of their Alquist-Priolo Earthquake Fault Zoning Program. 2.0 Environmental Setting 2 Chapter 2 Environmental Setting 2.1 Planning Context 2.1.1 Project Location The city of Moreno Valley (city) is located within the northwestern portion of Riverside County in the southern Inland Empire portion of the state of California. Moreno Valley is located approximately 63 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, 49 miles east of the city of Irvine, and 43 miles west of the city of Palm Springs. State Route 60 (SR-60), which runs in an east and west direction through the northern portion of Moreno Valley (east and west direction), and Interstate 215 (I-215), which runs in proximity to the westerly city limits (north and south direction), serve to connect the city to other communities throughout the southern California region. The city is accessible via public transportation by rail, through Metrolink located approximately one-half mile west of the city limits, and the city is accessible via aircraft at the Inland Port Airport located at the March Air Reserve Base (MARB), which is situated south and west of the city limits. The city’s picturesque valley setting is bounded to the north by the Box Springs Mountains, the Badlands to the east, and the mountains of the Lake Perris Recreation Area, Mystic Lake floodplain, and San Jacinto Wildlife Area to the south. The city is also bounded by MARB to the southwest and the city of Riverside to the west. Moreno Valley is a diverse and growing community of approximately 207,000 people. It has a relatively young and dynamic majority Latino population. -
