REVIEW A Cinematic View on North Korean Spies from the South in Secretly Greatly (2013) Ji-Eun Kim North Korean spies in South Korean cinema are by no means a recent phenomenon. South Korean anti-communist genre films, which had their beginnings in the late 1940s, emphasized nationalism and positioned South Korea as being in deadlock with communist North Korea. As evidence of the popularity of such anticommunist films, there were seventeen anticommunist films made between 1949 and 1960 (Shim, 2011). Most of these genre films consists of stories of “split families, partisans, spies and armed infiltrators to the South” (Shim, 2011, p.179). In the 1960s, President Park Chung Hee reinforced anticommunist policy in South Korea in fields like the defense system and in education. Many elementary schools had to hold anticommunist speech contests and draw political posters as well as slogans (Shim, 2011, p. 190). A gap emerged between the propaganda of the Park regime and the films that directors wanted to produce. While the government sought to portray communism in a negative light, film directors wanted to jump over the limited anticommunist plots and narratives to broader artistic possibilities. Because of these expectations of having to satisfy government propaganda, filmmakers had to make anticommunist films in order to get state level censorship shortcuts (Shim, 2011, p. 191). Shim also noted that it was only by 1985 that film policy stopped favoring these types of anticommunist films. BAB III Perbandingan Diplomasi Budaya Jepang dan Korea Selatan Pada bab tiga ini menjelaskan tentang perbandingan diplomasi Jepang dan Korea Selatan, terutama di dalam konteks model (cara) kedua negara melakukan diplomasi melalui budaya mereka masing-masing. Selain model (cara), pada bab tiga ini juga menjelaskan tentang perbedaan dan persamaan media digunakan oleh Jepang dan Korea Selatan dalam mengekspor budaya mereka ke negara lain guna menarik minat masyarakat internasional terhadap budaya Jepang, yang pada akhirnya akan memberikan keuntungan secara ekonomi bagi kedua negara. 3.1 Model (Cara yang Digunakan untuk Mempromosikan Budaya) 3.1.1 Manga Jepang Manga merupakan sebuah karya sastra populer Jepang yang menggabungkan antara gambar dan teks, sehingga membentuk sebuah alur cerita yang dapat dinikmati oleh pembacanya. Awalnya, manga hanya dalam bentuk cerita yang disajikan dalam novel. Namun, seiring perkembangan zaman, dan semakin banyak peminat manga, karya sastra manga menjadi budaya yang tidak hanya menceritakan sebuah karya fiksi, namun juga merupakan cerminan kehidupan masyarakat Jepang. Sebagai negara maju di Asia, Jepang dan Korea Selatan memiliki kepentingan yang lebih luas dan kompleks untuk menjangkau masyarakat internasional guna menggerakkan kegiatan perekonomian demi kepentingan 43 nasional mereka. Salah satunya adalah, Jepang menggunakan Manga sebagai salah satu alat diplomasi. Jepang dikenal sebagai negara yang mempergunakan doktrin Fukuda. Doktin Fukuda merupakan sebuah kebijakan yang dikeluarkan oleh Perdana Menteri Fukuda Takeo yang berbasis pada kerjasama budaya dan ekonomi dengan konsep “heart to heart”. Kebijakan ini dikeluarkan karena sejarah kelam yang dilakukan oleh Jepang pada Perang Dunia II. Diharapkan dengan kebijakan ini maka kerjasama Jepang dengan berbagai negara bisa berjalan dengan baik dan lancar.47 Untuk menarik masyarakat internasional terhadap budaya lokal Jepang, negara ini mendirikan sebuah lembaga yang disebut Japan Foundation pada tahun 1972. -

Download date 28/09/2021 20:39:45 Item License http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/ Link to Item http://hdl.handle.net/10150/578951 THESIS ABSTRACT: The traditional framework in which resistance to is understood and discussed is limited largely to clear and pointed acts of resistance undertaken by organized groups. In the work of historian James C. Scott, particularly the book Domination of the Arts of Resistance: Hidden Transcripts, one finds an enormous diversity in the ways a subordinate population—and the individuals therein—can resist a dominant power. These ways of resisting extend outside the forms of resistance limited to organized group activity and acts of violence against the dominant group. The history of Japanese imperial rule in Korea [1905-1945] has not been characterized by consistent or widespread resistance under the traditional framework. However, as shown in this thesis, by adopting an alternative framework based off of Scott’s work, and utilizing it to examine acts of resistance in the experiences and lives of Koreans who lived during the Japanese colonial period of Korean history, there is enough evidence to support the collective social existence of a Korean culture of resistance.
