Secondary Woodland Plantation Woodland Tall Shrubland Shrubby Grassland Seasonally Wet Grassland Cultivated Land Stream and Riparian Salt Marsh Wasteland Developed Area 2.1.2 There were also four major coastal habitats identified in the study area. Terrestrial fauna recorded within these coastal habitats are presented in Chapter 12. However, floral and seashore fauna recorded within these habitats are discussed and assessed in detail in Chapter 13. The four coastal habitats included: Mangrove and intertidal mudflat Sandy Shore Rocky Shore Artificial Seawall 2.1.3 The distribution of habitats is shown in the habitat map in Drawings MCL/P132/EIA/12-001 to MCL/P132/EIA/12-007. The areas of each habitat type within the study area are listed in Table 2. The canopy of secondary woodland consisted mostly of semi-mature trees. This habitat supported a high floristic diversity in the tree, shrub and herbaceous layers. A total of 273 floral species have been recorded in this habitat in Location A. Dominant tree species observed included Celtis sinensis, Cratoxylum cochinchinense, Litsea glutinosa, Mallotus paniculatus, Schefflera heptaphylla and Sterculia lanceolata. Dominant shrub species include Litsea rotundifolia var. oblongifolia, Psychotria asiatica, Rhaphiolepis indica and Rhodomyrtus tomentosa. Floral species of conservation interest recorded included Chinese Antirhea Antirhea chinensis, Incense Tree Aquilaria sinensis, Cansjera rheedii, Biond’s Hackberry Celtis biondii, Lamb of Tartary Cibotium barometz, Small Persimmon Diospyros vaccinioides, Little-leaved Rourea Gmelina chinensis, Night Blooming Cereus Hylocereus undatus, Hong Kong Pavetta Pavetta hongkongensis and Spiny-fruited Uvaria Uvaria calamistrata. 2.2.2 Within Location B, secondary woodland was mainly found in small patches near Pak Mong and Tai Ho. The canopy of secondary woodland consisted mostly of semi-mature trees. This habitat supported a high floristic diversity in the tree, shrub and herbaceous layers. A total of 269 floral species have been recorded in this habitat in Location B. Dominant tree species observed included Celtis sinensis, Cratoxylum cochinchinense, Litsea glutinosa, Mallotus paniculatus, Schefflera heptaphylla and Sterculia lanceolata. Dominant shrub species include Litsea rotundifolia var. oblongifolia, Psychotria asiatica, Rhaphiolepis indica and Rhodomyrtus tomentosa. Floral species of conservation interest recorded included Chinese Antirhea Antirhea chinensis, Incense Tree Aquilaria sinensis, Silver-back Artocarpus Artocarpus hypargyreus, Cansjera rheedii, Biond’s Hackberry Celtis biondii, Lamb of Tartary Cibotium barometz, Small Persimmon Diospyros vaccinioides, Little-leaved Rourea Gmelina chinensis, Night Blooming Cereus Hylocereus undatus, Pitcher Plant Nepenthes mirabilis and Hong Kong Pavetta Pavetta hongkongensis. 2.2.3 Within Location C, secondary woodland was found on the north-facing slope of Scenic Hill. The canopy of secondary woodland consists mostly of semi-mature trees. This habitat supported a 308875/ENL/ENL/03/07/C March 2014 P:\Hong Kong\ENL\PROJECTS\308875 3rd runway\03 Deliverables\07 Final EIA Report\Appendices\Ch 12 Terrestrial Ecology\Appendix 12.3 Field Survey Result.doc 3 Expansion of Hong Kong International Airport into a Three-Runway System Environmental Impact Assessment Report medium floristic diversity in the tree, shrub and herbaceous layers. A total of 134 floral species have been recorded in this habitat in Location C. Dominant tree species observed included Celtis sinensis, Cratoxylum cochinchinense, Litsea glutinosa, Mallotus paniculatus, Schefflera heptaphylla and Sterculia lanceolata. Dominant shrub species included Litsea rotundifolia var. oblongifolia, Psychotria asiatica and Scolopia saeva. Floral species of conservation interest recorded include Incense Tree Aquilaria sinensis and Cansjera rheedii. 2.2.4 Within Location D, isolated patches of secondary woodland were found close to the coast line on Lung Kwu Chau and Cha Chau, on the east-facing slope of Sha Chau and behind the temple on the northern tip of Sha Chau. The canopy of secondary woodland consisted mostly of semi- mature trees. This habitat supported a low to moderate floristic diversity in the tree, shrub and herbaceous layers. A total of 58 floral species have been recorded in this habitat in Location D. Dominant tree species observed include Casuarina equisetifolia, Ficus microcarpa, Schefflera heptaphylla and Sterculia lanceolata. Dominant shrub species include Atalantia buxifolia, Daphniphyllum calycinum and Scolopia chinensis. Floral species of conservation interest recorded included Cansjera rheedii. 2.3 Plantation Woodland 2.3.1 Within Location A, plantation woodland was mainly found on North Lantau hill slopes near Sha Lo Wan, Hau Hok Wan and San Tau. It was mostly dominated by semi-mature native and exotic trees of similar age and size. A total of 150 floral species have been recorded in this habitat in Location A. Dominant tree species observed included Acacia confusa, Casuarina equisetifolia, Celtis sinensis, Litsea glutinosa and Mallotus paniculatus. Dominant shrub species include Bidens alba and Litsea rotundifolia var. oblongifolia. Floral species of conservation interest recorded included Chinese Antirhea Antirhea chinensis and Incense Tree Aquilaria sinensis. 2.3.2 Within Location B, plantation woodland was mainly found on North Lantau hill slopes along North Lantau Expressway and near village settlement in Pak Mong. The woodland behind Pak Mong is known to have fung shui significance, but has been heavily modified (AECOM, 2009) and therefore grouped under this habitat type. The woodland along North Lantau Expressway is young to semi-mature plantation composed of mainly landscape trees. This habitat was mostly dominated by semi-mature native and exotic trees. A total of 105 floral species have been recorded in this habitat in Location B. Dominant tree species observed included Acacia confusa, Aporusa dioica, Celtis sinensis, Litsea glutinosa, Mallotus paniculatus and Pinus massoniana. Dominant shrub species include Bridelia tomentosa and Litsea rotundifolia var. oblongifolia. Floral species of conservation interest recorded included Chinese Antirhea Antirhea chinensis and Incense Tree Aquilaria sinensis.
