Info Sheet D Czar Of Crickets Productions czarofcrickets.com / facebook.com/czarofcrickets / youtube.com/czarofcricketsproductions MINSK/ZATOKREV - BIGOD Minsk (USA) und Zatokrev (CH/EU); zwei verschiedenen Kontinenten entstammende Bands erschaen sich zwei gleichende, parallele Universen, welche nun bei ihrem gemeinsamen Projekt BIGOD verschmelzen. Es ist die Symbiose zweier Biograen mit Parallelen, Überlagerungen und Verechtungen. Minsk und Zatokrev gründeten sich im Jahr 2002 und veröentlichten bisher jeweils vier Alben. Im Laufe der Zeit kreuzten sich auf zahlreichen europäischen Tourneen immer wieder ihre Wege woraus sich schliesslich eine Freundschaft entwickelte. Sowohl Minsk als auch Zatokrev gingen seit Beginn an kompromisslos ihre eigenen Wege. Stetig auf der Suche nach einem tieferen Sinn im Hier und Jetzt, reektieren die Musiker immerwährend ihr Innerstes in Form einer psychedelischen Melancholie, gepaart mit einer gigantischen Schwere und schöpferischen Zerstörungswut.     BRUTAL BELONGING IN MELBOURNE’S GRINDCORE SCENE Rosemary Overell ABSTRACT I suggest sociality depends on affective encounters between individuals in particular spaces. Through an ethnography of Melbourne’s grindcore death-metal scene, I examine how belonging in a music scene is constituted by scene members’ affective encounters. In particular, I suggest that a ‘‘brutal’’ disposition is necessary for cultivating the affective intensities necessary for experiencing belonging in the scene. Using scene members’ own under- standings of ‘‘brutal’’ I shift from iconic representations of ‘‘brutality,’’ common in other metal scenes, toward a brutal affect. Here, brutality is experienced as a set of embodied intensities, difficult to articulate, but crucial to understanding how scene members cultivate belonging – in the grindcore scene, and in scenic spaces. OMAR KHORSHID - Guitar El Chark DOUBLE 12" LP ( Sublime Frequencies ) I hear that this sucker is already sold out, and I can understand why. Guitar El Chark , which translates to 'Guitar of the Orient', is a collection of singles, and album cuts that spawn the Lebanese years of Omar Khorshid's musical career. The Egyptian Khorshid began playing guitar in the early 60s, and soon formed Le Petit Chats, who were modeled after The Beatles. Later he would join Abdel Halim Hafez and Baligh Hamdi in their orchestra, and that was when his fame began to spread throughout the Middle East. In the early 1970s he moved to Beirut, Lebanon, and recorded several solo LPs from 1973 to 1977. This later solo work is where the songs on Guitar El Chark come from. This release, and Omar's later work, consist of a blend of surf guitar, traditional Arab music, Flamenco, and psychedelic keyboards that form an instrumental, almost early-Bollywood sound. Seventeen tracks, and one promotional radio spot, adding up to over eighty minutes of awesome. I cannot express how wonderful it is to finally get my hands on some of his work. Well, neither can thousands of others, as this limited edition, gatefold, double slab of 12" wax has apparently flown off the racks. Hopefully, Seattle's Sublime Frequencies Records will reissue this in CD format for the newly schooled masses.

And screaming. —Neurosis, "Prayer" For the last 26 years, NEUROSIS have tapped into the elusive wellspring where resonance and dissonance collude, circling emotional poles where nothing is withheld, where the psyche screams for answers to Earth's ancient mysteries. Originally unveiled in 2000, the four-song, 32-minute Sovereign EP was the first NEUROSIS release issued through the band's own Neurot Recordings, with the vinyl appearing via Hydra Head. In chronological terms, Sovereign served as a millennial segue between two of the band's most revered full- lengths, 1999's Times Of Grace and 2001's A Sun That Never Sets. Opener "Prayer" sets the omnipotent tone for all that follows. A master-class in deep dynamics, the song ascends from its quiet beginnings into a rolling, hypnotic power-dirge couched in a bone-rattling rhythm. The potential mental imagery is vast and varied: A parade of dervishes and charlatans slither across the firelight in Plato's Cave. Mankind's sentence is pronounced. The light swallows everything. Everything becomes nothing. "An Offering" brings arsenic visions of Eden—or at least of the ruinous snake and the tree of knowledge around which it infamously coiled. The book of Genesis and the Iron Age collide in a forgotten corner beyond time. A litany of primordial premonitions torment the psyche, unhinged finally in the song's crushing, apocalyptic ending, which easily ranks amongst the band's heaviest, most effective outpourings.

Date:…………………………………………………….. 2 Abstract The term ‗underground music‘, in my account, connects various forms of music-making that exist largely outside ‗mainstream‘ cultural discourse, such as Drone Metal, Free Improvisation, Power Electronics, and DIY Noise, amongst others. Its connotations of concealment and obscurity indicate what I argue to be the music‘s central tenets of cultural reclusion, political independence, and aesthetic experiment. In response to a lack of scholarly discussion of this music, my thesis provides a cultural, political, and aesthetic mapping of the underground, whose existence as a coherent entity is being both argued for and ‗mapped‘ here. Outlining the historical context, but focusing on the underground in the digital age, I use a wide range of interdisciplinary research methodologies , including primary interviews, musical analysis, and a critical engagement with various pertinent theoretical sources. In my account, the underground emerges as a marginal, ‗antermediated‘ cultural ‗scene‘ based both on the web and in large urban centres, the latter of whose concentration of resources facilitates the growth of various localised underground scenes. I explore the radical anti-capitalist politics of many underground figures, whilst also examining their financial ties to big business and the state(s). This contradiction is critically explored, with three conclusions being drawn. First, the underground is shown in Part II to be so marginal as to escape, in effect, post- Fordist capitalist subsumption.
