Administration of Donald J. Trump, 2020 Remarks at a White House Coronavirus Task Force Press Briefing March 31, 2020 The President. Thank you very much, everyone. Our country is in the midst of a great national trial, unlike any we have ever faced before. You all see it. You see it probably better than most. We're at war with a deadly virus. Success in this fight will require the full, absolute measure of our collective strength, love, and devotion. Very important. Each of us has the power, through our own choices and actions, to save American lives and rescue the most vulnerable among us. That's why we really have to do what we all know is right. Every citizen is being called upon to make sacrifices. Every business is being asked to fulfill its patriotic duty. Every community is making fundamental changes to how we live, work, and interact each and every day. And I wouldn't be surprised to see this going on long into the future, when this virus is gone and defeated. Some of the things we're doing now will be very good practice for the future, including for not getting the flu, which is very devastating also. So some of what we're learning now will live on into the future—I really believe that: shaking hands or not shaking hands, washing hands all the time, staying a little apart. Fifteen days ago, we published our nationwide guidelines to slow the spread of the virus. On Sunday, I announced that this campaign will be extended until April 30. -

Suite 218 Washington, D.C. 20036-4505 Re: Violations of the Hatch Act by Chad Wolf Dear Mr. Kerner: Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (“CREW”) respectfully requests that the Office of Special Counsel (“OSC”) investigate whether acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf violated the Hatch Act by participating in a naturalization ceremony in his official capacity that appears to have been designed and promoted to support the Republican National Convention and the Republican nominee for president, Donald Trump. By participating in this event that mixed official government business with support of a political party and a candidate for partisan political office, Mr. Wolf appears to have used his official authority or influence for the purpose of interfering with or affecting the result of an election. His participation in during this event constitutes political activity prohibited by law. Factual Background According to the Department of Homeland Security (“DHS”) website, President Trump designated Chad Wolf to serve as the Acting Secretary of Homeland Security on November 13, 2019. 1 Mr. Wolf was previously confirmed by the Senate to serve as the first Under Secretary of the DHS Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans.2 On August 14, 2020, the US Government Accountability Office (“GAO”), which issues decisions on agency compliance with the Vacancies Reform Act, found that Mr. Wolf’s appointment as Acting Secretary was “improper” and “invalid” under the law.3 Use of Official Position for Partisan Political Purpose On August 25, 2020, the Republican National Convention aired video of a naturalization ceremony of five new American citizens.4 The ceremony took place earlier that day on White 1 U.S. -

GAO’s role under the Vacancies Reform Act is to collect information agencies are required to report to GAO, and GAO uses this information to report to Congress any violations of the time limitations on acting service imposed by the Vacancies Reform Act. 5 U.S.C. § 3349. Although recent public concerns pertaining to border security may be attributed to the threat of potential terrorists coming into the country, past concerns that centered around drug and human smuggling and the illegal entry of migrants remain important issues. As Congress passes legislation to enhance border security (e.g., P.L. 109-13) and the Administration puts into place procedures to tighten border enforcement, concerns over terrorists exploiting the porous southwest border continue to grow. The U.S. border with Mexico is some 2,000 miles long, with more than 800,000 people arriving from Mexico daily and more than 4 million commercial crossings annually. The United States and Mexico are linked together in various ways, including through trade, investment, migration, tourism, environment, and familial relationships. Mexico is the second most important trading partner of the United States and this trade is critical to many U.S. industries and border communities. In an effort to facilitate the legitimate flow of travel and trade, the governments of the United States and Mexico signed the U.S.-Mexico Border Partnership agreement. -

We are responding to the lack of response to the public comments previously submitted on April 5, 2019 and to address the inadequacy of responses by USCIS to comments submitted in response to their Notice of Revision of Currently Approved Collection published on September 28, 2018. The City of Seattle continues to strongly oppose the proposed rule to modify Form I-912, Request for Fee Waiver. The City of Seattle created the Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs (OIRA) in 2012 to improve the lives of Seattle’s immigrant and refugee families. Through OIRA, the City of Seattle funds and coordinates two naturalization programs called the New Citizen Campaign (NCC) and the New Citizen Program (NCP) to help an estimated 75,000 Seattle-area legal permanent residents (“LPR”) become U.S. citizens. Since its inception in 1997, NCP has served over 19,000 people, provided naturalization assistance to over 12,300 LPRs, successfully naturalized 9,500 LPRs, and provided over 90,000 hours of citizenship instruction. -
