Ríos. El BAFF 2010 – 12º FESTIVAL DE CINE ASIÁTICO DE BARCELONA presentará en su nueva edición una selección que aumenta el número de películas proyectadas – hasta un total de 70 largometrajes -, refuerza algunas de sus secciones y da un especial impulso a la animación con la creación de la sección BAFF Anime. El FESTIVAL DE CINE ASIÁTICO DE BARCELONA es una cita totalmente consolidada en la vida cultural de la ciudad de Barcelona y cuenta con un público entusiasta y entregado, que no ha dejado de crecer en cada edición (20.000 personas en la edición 2009). El festival ocupa también un lugar importante en el panorama de festivales nacionales e internacionales, por su dedicación exclusiva a las cinematografías asiáticas y porque se ha hecho eco de lo más novedoso de las mismas, ha dado visibilidad a directores fundamentales de los que ha seguido fielmente su carrera, ha seguido y dado a conocer los nombres de nuevos autores que puedan suponer un relevo generacional y ha prestado atención a cinematografías emergentes alejadas de los circuitos de la distribución, por proceder de países con un volumen de producción reducido. La principal novedad de la edición 2010 del BAFF es la creación del BAFF Anime, un minifestival dentro del festival que ocupará el hall y el auditorio del CCCB el primer fin de semana del festival, con una programación especial dedicada a lo mejor de la animación asiática del momento, incluyendo el estreno europeo de One Piece Film: Strong World. Una primera aproximación que se pretende gane en presencia y en número de películas en las próximas ediciones del BAFF. Este año hay además dos secciones temáticas: Focus Corea del Sur y Sudeste Asiático. Con motivo del 60 aniversario de las relaciones diplomáticas entre Corea del Sur y España, el BAFF cuenta en esta duodécima edición con la colaboración del KOFIC (Korean Film Council), y proyectará una selección de nueve películas de directores coreanos imprescindibles. Además este año el BAFF vuelve a contar con una presencia importante de películas de Filipinas y Malasia, dos de las cinematografías más estimulantes y frescas del momento, agrupadas en la sección Sudeste Asiático. En la Sección Oficial se concederán los premios Durián de Oro - otorgado por Casa Asia y dotado con 6.000 euros – a la mejor película de la Sección Oficial. Estas películas también optan al Premio a la distribución, concedido por la distribuidora Motion Pictures, en colaboración con Tribanda, que adquirirán los derechos de la película galardonada con este premio para su estreno comercial en España. Los otros premios que se conceden en el BAFF son el Premio NETPAC, que entrega la organización del mismo nombre, y el Premio D-Cinema, que se concede a la mejor obra realizada en ese formato, independientemente de la sección en la que se presente la película. India, 2009. Cine dentro del cine: un viaje lleno de color y mucho sarcasmo a las entrañas de Bollywood, una historia sobre lo mucho que cuesta alcanzar los sueños en la industria del cine indio. De ahí el título: hay que estar en el lugar y el momento adecuado para tener la oportunidad de triunfar entre los miles de aspirantes que cada año se acercan a Bollywood. Pero si procedes de una familia en la que el oficio pasa de padres a hijos, esas oportunidades son más amplias. Añadiendo chispa a la diversión, un montón de cameos con las máximas estrellas del cine indio, y naturalmente, canciones y bailes que añaden polvos de estrella al ascenso a la fama. Cine Rex. Viernes 30 de abril. Pase único SECCIÓN OFICIAL Lo mejor de la autoría del último año se da cita en la Sección Oficial a concurso del BAFF 2010. En ella participan doce películas procedentes de Malasia, Taiwán, Filipinas, Sri Lanka, Corea del Sur, Tailandia, Japón y China. Las películas que concursarán en la Sección Oficial son las siguientes: AT THE END OF DAYBREAK de Ho Yuhang. Malasia, 2009. Desde su paso por el BAFF 2008 con Rain Dogs, Ho Yuhang es un director en ascenso. En su nueva película parte de un hecho real, el asesinato de dos chicas, para elaborar un drama criminal que dispara a la moral de la sociedad de su país. Las dos actrices ganaron los premios a las mejores intérpretes en los Asian Film Awards. AU REVOIR TAIPEI de Arvin Chen. Taiwán, 2010. El premio NETPAC de la Berlinale 2010 es un homenaje a la ruidosa y excitante vida nocturna de Taipei. Una película que se enmarca en el clásico chico-busca-chica salpicado de escenas de comedia alocada que incluyen mercados nocturnos, karaokes, una banda de gángsteres e incluso un secuestro. AURORA de Adolfo Alix Jr. Filipinas, 2009. Uno de los directores más destacados de la nueva generación de cineastas filipinos, Adolfo Alix llega a su décima película, después de una carrera meteórica y prolífica que empezó en el 2006. Sri Lanka, 2009. Cuatro años después de que acabara la guerra civil en Sri Lanka, que duró 26 años, el director muestra que los restos de la batalla todavía están presentes en muchos ámbitos. Between Two Worlds es un viaje extremo a un universo mágico de la mano de una de las voces más personales del cine contemporáneo, a quien los críticos ya comparan con Apichatpong Weerasethakul. KARAOKE de Chris Chong. Malasia, 2009. Obra de debut de su director, Karaoke es un retrato sereno y pausado sobre la pérdida de la ilusión y sobre cómo los sueños se tienen que reajustar a la realidad. Una historia que tiene como fondo la música y las imágenes fantasiosas de un karaoke, quizás la única diversión que queda en un pueblo en el que la industrialización se abre paso de manera salvaje. LIKE YOU KNOW IT ALL de Hong Sang-soo. Corea del Sur, 2009. Hong Sang-soo continúa explorando la identidad de una masculinidad contemporánea en horas bajas, la complejidad del deseo y las relaciones sentimentales, todo salpicado con sus reconocibles toques de humor, conversaciones regadas con alcohol y situaciones al límite del absurdo. El Rohmer coreano vuelve a acertar de lleno. MUNDANE HISTORY de Anocha Suwichakornpong. Tailandia, 2009. En su debut en el largometraje, la tailandesa Anocha Suwichakornpong ha transformado un drama familiar en un poético y sutil ejercicio de crítica política que reflexiona sobre la inescrutabilidad de la vida y el cosmos. Apadrinada por el mismo equipo de producción de Wonderful Town. PAJU de Park Chan-Ok. Corea del Sur, 2009. La directora Park Chan-Ok se convierte, con su segunda película, en una de las revelaciones del año. Un drama de cocción lenta, con un tono preciso y una narración fragmentada y laberíntica, sobre los sucesivos encuentros de una pareja en una historia de crimen y castigo cargada de urgencia. PARADE de Yukisada Isao. Japón, 2009. Ganadora de un premio de la crítica en la Berlinale 2010, Parade reúne un reparto de jóvenes actores -entre ellos Tatsuya Fujiwara (Battle Royal) - en una especie de reverso oscuro de una sitcom. La aparición de un joven misterioso en un piso compartido revelará la dimensión verdadera de sus relaciones y apegos. VILLON’S WIFE de Kichitaro Negishi. Japón, 2009. Un drama de estética clásica protagonizado por Tadanobu Asano, en un papel alejado de los roles contemporáneos que le han dado fama. Basada en la novela semiautobiográfica de Osamu Dazai de 1947, a su vez inspirada en el poeta francés François Villon, la película retrata el Japón de la postguerra en un momento en el que los cambios parecen inaplazables. WEAVING GIRL de Wang Quan’an. China, 2009. Puis en 1968 Yoshi Oida est invité à Paris par Jean-Louis Barrault pour travailler avec Peter Brook. Il fonde avec ce dernier le Centre International de Recherche Théâtrale (CIRT). Au contact du « magicien du théâtre européen », il apprend que le comédien doit être « un vent léger, qui devenant de plus en plus fort, doit allumer une flamme et la faire grandir ». Aux côtés du maître, il apprend également la mise en scène, métier qui l’occupe énormément aujourd’hui. Il sillonne alors le monde à la recherche de la maîtrise théâtrale la plus complète, apprenant les jeux Africains, Indien, Persan. Il s’interroge sur la frontière entre la scène et la vie de tous les jours : « Qu’ai-je appris sur la scène qui pourrait m’aider à vivre ma vie d’homme ordinaire ? ».

A Season of Japanese Films by Contemporary Japanese Auteurs 10 February – 28 March 2012 : 7 venues in 7 cities in the UK I Just Didn‟t Do It, Dir Masayuki Suo, Japan, 2007 Following last year‟s successful Back To the Future: Japanese Cinema since the mid-90s season, this year‟s Japan Foundation touring film programme looks at narrative creativity in Japanese cinema, showcasing directors both young and emerging, such as Miwa Nishikawa and Takatsugu Naito, and the more established, such as Masayuki Suo (the director best-known for Shall We Dance). In recent years, Japanese cinema has been dominated by generic spin offs of media such as TV shows and manga, to generate an audience based on a pre-existing market. The nine films that have been chosen for this season however clearly demonstrate in fact the wealth of original writing and creativity evident in recent Japanese cinema. Having successfully forged and retained their own identities within what is one of the largest film markets in the world, these directors reject the “safe” formulaic film model and instead choose to pursue their own methods of expressing themselves through film. Audiences will be able to hear the individual directors‟ voices, whilst also being exposed to characteristics and techniques of some of the best examples of auteur directors from Japan.     BIOGRAPHY Ryo Kase Ryo Kase was born on November 9, 1974 in Kanagawa, Japan. Shortly after birth his family moved to Washington, United States, where he spent most of his childhood. Kase began his acting career in 2000 and gained his first starring role in Kazuyoshi Kumakiri’s Antenna (2004). He then went on to work with several internationally renowned Japanese film directors, including Takashi Kitano, Hirokazu Koreeda and Kiyoshi Kurosawa.
