Dr Beh Swan Gin Chairman, Economic Development Board

Dr Beh was appointed Chairman of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) on 1 December 2014. He also chairs the Boards of Directors of EDB Investments and EDBI.

Dr Beh was Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Law from 1 July 2012 to 30 November 2014. Prior to the Ministry of Law, he had been Managing Director of EDB from 1 August 2008 to 30 June 2012. He held various portfolios over the years including leadership roles in the development of Singapore’s Biomedical Sciences industry cluster, as well as overseas assignments in EDB’s North American operations.

Mr Tai Lee Siang is currently the Group Managing Director of ONG&ONG Singapore, a multi-disciplinary consultancy firm providing total solutions encompassing Urban Planning, Architecture, Engineering, Landscape Architecture and Interior Design. Mr Tai has practised as an architect and urban planner since 1990. Mr Tai is also currently President of Design Business Chamber Singapore and also sits on the board for the DesignSingapore Council.

On the Design front, Mr Tai held the position as President of Singapore Institute of Architects from 2007 to 2009. In 2010, Mr Tai chaired the formation of DesignS – an alliance comprising 8 Design-centric Associations to promote Singapore Design Brands.

Mr Simon Ong Group Managing Director / Co-Founder, Kingsmen Creatives

Mr Simon Ong is the Group Managing Director and co-founder of Kingsmen, a leading communication design & production group. Besides providing strategic directions for the growth of the group, he is also responsible for the creative directions and the planning and implementation of group’s operations.

Mr Ong is also actively involved in the creative industry. He is Chairman of the Design Development Committee of the Singapore Furniture Industry Council as well as Chairman of the Creative Sector, Design Industry (Design Manpower, Skills, & Training Council) of the Workforce Development Agency of Singapore.

Mr Chris Lee Founder and Creative Director, Asylum

Mr Chris Lee is the Founder and Creative Director of Asylum, a highly respected creative company that uniquely comprises a design studio, a retail store and a workshop. Asylum focuses on cross disciplinary projects that include interactive design, product development, environmental & interior design and graphic design. Asylum has been recognised with more than 100 international awards.

Mr Lee is also very active in creative education in Asia, where he lectures and gives talks at universities and conferences. He became the Founding President of The Design Society in 2009, a non-profit organisation that aims to promote visual culture through exhibitions, workshops and education. He is also the recipient for ‘Designer of the Year’ and ‘Design of the Year’ categories in Singapore’s President Design Award 2009 and 2010 respectively, and is currently a Board member of DesignSingapore Council.

Mr Peter Overy Managing Director, IDEO Singapore

Peter Overy is Managing Director at IDEO, Singapore. He is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the business in Singapore and South East Asia, pushing creative excellence across its portfolio of work and nurturing design talent across disciplines.

Peter has been at the helm of major innovation projects across multiple ministries in the Singapore government; the Ministry of Manpower, Ministry of Community, Youth and Sport, and Ministry of Health. His work includes the redesign of the award-winning Ministry of Manpower’s Employment Pass Service Centre, which catalysed a new approach in citizen-centered service design within the public sector.

Mr Tim Kobe Chief Executive Officer, Eight Inc.

Mr Tim Kobe founded the globally recognised strategic design firm Eight Inc. in 1989. Today, Eight Inc. has offices in cities in the United States of America, Europe and Asia including Singapore. Eight Inc is a leader in innovation and branded experience working

with companies such as Apple. Eight Inc. also received the top award for the Architectural competition ‘High Density on the High Ground’ and was selected to represent the United States at the Architecture Biennale in Venice Italy.

Eight Inc. works across many traditional disciplines: strategy, architecture, exhibition, interior design, product, communications and branding. Many projects have received international design awards and have been published in Asia, Europe, and the United States.

Ms Priscilla Shunmugam Founder and Designer, Ong Shunmugam

Ms Priscilla Shunmugam is the Founder and Designer of Ong Shunmugam, a contemporary womenswear label, which she started in pursuit of wanting to define Asian culture and its centuries of craftsmanship and creativity. Since its inception in 2010, Ong Shunmugam has focused on the quest of crafting beautiful clothing that put a contemporary spin on traditional clothing such as Cheongsam, Samfu, Sari and the Kebaya.

Ms Shunmugam has been featured in the “In the Mood for Cheongsam” exhibition at the National Museum of Singapore, the 2012 Grey Goose Guild, as well as the prestigious Paris Fashion Week with Future Fashion Now. In 2012, her fashion label won the Breakout Local Label title at the Singapore’s Cleo Fashion Awards and won the Designer of the Year award at the annual ELLE Singapore Awards.

Mr James Kaw Director, Singapore Innovation Centre, Procter & Gamble

Mr James Kaw is the Director of P&G's Singapore Innovation Centre and is responsible for the overall development of Centre, including its management and operations. He focuses on two major efforts - building an organisation composed of experienced and new research and development professionals and building a new state-of-the-art facility in . Mr Kaw works closely with the heads of Global Business Units and multiple corporate function leaders to manage P&G's business and operations. He is also working with the Global Business Development organisation to strengthen partnerships with external stakeholders, such as academic institutions and suppliers, to achieve competitive advantages through win-win approaches.

Mr Kaw has extensive experiencing bringing innovation to Asia over the past 35 years in the company.

Mr Low Cheaw Hwei Head of Design, Philips ASEAN Pacific & Philips Design Consulting Asia

Mr Low Cheaw Hwei is Head of Design, Philips ASEAN Pacific & Philips Design Consulting Asia. He has held several senior executive positions including Global Head of Product and Service Design for Philips, Creative Director for Consumer Lifestyle portfolio, responsible for overall creative direction and design strategy, as well as Head of Design for Asia, in addition to his global role.

Mr Low joined Philips Design in 1991. Through the years, he has led Philips Design in thought leadership, design management, won multiple design and innovation awards and achieved numerous commercial successes. Mr Low has addressed various international forums and seminars, particularly on topics of innovation and branding. He also chaired numerous design platforms including the Singapore International Design forum 2005 and the organising committee for ICSID World Design Congress Singapore 2009, and currently sits on advisory boards to a few design institutions in Singapore.

Mr Loh Lik Peng Founder and Director, Unlisted Collection

Mr Loh Lik Peng is a hotelier and restaurateur who founded Unlisted Collection - an umbrella brand that binds all of his design-driven boutique hotels and restaurants in Singapore, London, and Shanghai together.

Presently, Mr Loh is a member of Singapore Tourism Board's Tourism Consultative Council as well as the Honorary Secretary of Singapore Hotel Association and Vice Chairman of Shatec Institutes. In 2005, the Singapore Tourism Board awarded Mr Loh with the "New Tourism Entrepreneur Award" for his work in transforming a simple shop house into Hotel 1929.

Mr Wee Teng Wen Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Lo and Behold Group

Mr Wee Teng Wen is the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Lo & Behold Group, a group of trendy establishments that include Loof, Singapore’s first stand-alone rooftop bar; OverEasy, an American- diner; The White Rabbit, a fine dining restaurant in a converted chapel; Tanjong Beach Club, a seaside restaurant and bar; The Black Swan, a Great Gatsby-inspired eatery and Extra Virgin Pizza.

With a commitment to concepts that translate into unique experiences, Lo & Behold Group aims to cultivate distinctive venues that are timeless yet exciting. The group's projects have garnered extensive local and international media coverage as well as various accolades and awards. In 2011, Mr Wee co-founded For The Love of Laundry, Singapore’s first laundry company to use toxin-free technology for cleaning of garments.

Ms Goh Shu-Fen Owner & Co-Founder, R3 President, Institute of Advertising Singapore

Ms Goh Shu Fen is the owner of R3, a global consultancy group focused on media and marketing communications, which she co-founded in 2002. The consultancy has since grown, and ran global assignments for brands such as Singapore Airlines. In addition to her role at R3, Ms Goh also holds the President of the Institute of Advertising Singapore (IAS) since 2010. The IAS aims to position Singapore as an internationally recognised “centre of excellence” with world class advertising professionals, international best practices and industry leading creative output.

Prior to R3, Ms Goh was an Account Director in Oglivy & Mather from 1993 to 1996 where she was responsible for O&M’s key multinational accounts.

Professor Jeffrey Huang Head of Pillar and Professor, Architecture and Sustainable Design Singapore University of Technology and Design

Professor Huang holds masters and doctoral degrees from Harvard University. He started his academic career as a researcher at MIT’s Sloan School of Management (Center for Coordination Sciences). In 1998 he returned to Harvard as an Assistant Professor of Architecture and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2001. In 2006 he was named Full Professor at EPFL in Switzerland where he holds joint professorships at the School of Architecture and the School of Computer and Communication Sciences, and where he became the founding director of the Media x Design Lab.

His work examines the convergence of physical and digital architecture. His current design studios address the rapid urbanisation in Asia, and examine the application of computational urbanism and parametric typologies in Chinese cities. He has published and lectured widely on the convergence of physical and digital architecture.

Ms Tan Li San Deputy Secretary (Industry & Information), Ministry of Communications and Information

As Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI), Ms Tan oversees the ministry’s industry portfolios in the infocomm, media and design sectors, and has oversight of the Infocomm Development Authority, Media Development Authority, DesignSingapore Council, and the National Library Board. She also oversees the corporate functions in MCI.

Ms Tan was previously Senior Director of the Strategic Policy Office and the Centre for Strategic Futures, where she oversaw the development of futures planning capabilities across the public service. She was concurrently Director of the Centre for Governance and Leadership at the Singapore College. She has held various government positions during her career, including positions in the Ministry of Manpower, Infocomm Development Authority, Ministry of Environment and Water Resources and the Ministry of Finance.

Mr Robert M Tomlin Chairman, DesignSingapore Council Board Vice Chairman, Lepercq deNeuflize Asia Pte Ltd

Mr Robert Tomlin has been the Chairman of the DesignSingapore Council since September 2008. Currently, he is the Vice Chairman of Lepercq de Neuflize Asia Pte Ltd.

Mr Tomlin worked for 30 years with the London-based Schroder Group, in London, New York and finally Singapore. He joined UBS Investment Bank, Singapore (UBS) in March 2000, where he held successively the positions of Managing Director, Corporate Finance; Branch Manager and Country Head; and Vice Chairman Asia. He has over 24 years’ experience of working in Asia from Singapore.

Presently, he is also Chairman of Singapore Repertory Theatre, a Trustee of Singapore Management University, a Director of LASALLE College of the Arts, and member of the Governing Board of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. He also serves on the board of SGX-listed Olam International Ltd and sits on the Advisory Committee of Catalist, the Singapore Second Board.

Mr Jeffrey Ho Executive Director, DesignSingapore Council

Mr Jeffrey Ho joined the DesignSingapore Council in 2009. As the Executive Director, he leads the national agency for design in Singapore by charting national policies on design, developing design capabilities, and enabling enterprises to use design for innovation and growth.

Jeffrey is the chairman of the Design Industry Development Panel and the founding executive director of the National Design Centre in Singapore. Currently, he is a member of the Shanghai International Creative City Advisory Board (for a two-year term 2014- 2016). He sat on the International Strategic Advisory Council of IFI (International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers) and was a board member of the 2011-2013 Icograda (International Council of Graphic Design Associations) Executive Board.

He is appointed an Adjunct Associate Professor for Design Thinking at the Faculty of Engineering, National University of Singapore.
