SKSKYLINEYLINE CONFERENCE SOFTBALL REPORT 2010 ALL-SKYLINE CONFERENCE SOFTBALL Player of the Year NICOLE FARBER • Farmingdale State College Junior • Shortstop • Oakdale, N.Y. (Connetquot HS) Farmingdale State College junior shortstop Nicole Farber earned Skyline Conference Player of the Year honors for the second straight season. Farber led the conference in eight offensive categories including batting average (.533), slugging percentage (.992), on-base percentage (.582), runs scored (52), hits (64), runs batted in (68), total bases (119), and stolen bases (tied-14). She also ranked third in the conference with 11 home runs. Pitcher of the Year HOPE ZINO • Farmingdale State College Sophomore • Bay Shore, N.Y. (Bay Shore HS) Farmingdale State College sophomore pitcher Hope Zino earned Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Year for the second straight year. Zino finished the season with a 13-6 record and a 2.20 ERA. In 108.1 innings of work, she gave up just 91 hits, struck out 129 and walked 41. Opponents hit just .221 against Zino. She also tossed a no- hitter against NYU-Poly in the championship round of the Skyline Conference tournament. Rookie of the Year SHELBY BRUNS • Polytechnic Institute of NYU Freshman • Shortstop • Elko, Nevada (Elko HS) Freshman shortstop Shelby Bruns, one of several impact freshmen for Polytechnic Institute of NYU, was selected as the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year. In 38 games, Bruns batted .467 (57-for-122) with 13 doubles, three triples, 32 runs batted in and 41 runs scored. She tied for the conference lead in stolen bases with 14 and also ranked third with a .528 on-base percentage. Skyline Championship MVP CORINNE FITZGIBBONS • Polytechnic Institute of NYU Freshman • First Base • Brooklyn, N.Y. (Fontbonne Hall HS) Polytechnic Institute of NYU freshman first baseman Corinne Fitzgibbons was selected as the Most Valuable Player in the Skyline Conference tournament. In the Fighting Blue Jays four Skyline tournament games, Fitzgibbons batted .556 (5-for-9) with a double, three home runs, five runs scored and 13 runs batted in. She belted a go- ahead grand slam in the second round and a three-run home run in the deciding game. Coach of the Year JIMMY BARRETT Polytechnic Institute of NYU Polytechnic Institute of NYU head coach Jimmy Barrett was selected as the Skyline Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Fighting Blue Jays to their finest season. NYU-Poly, currently 31-9 overall, finished Skyline regular-season play at 13-1, earning the top seed in the conference tournament. With a starting lineup consisting of six freshmen, Barrett directed NYU-Poly to the Skyline Tournament title and the program’s first NCAA bid.
