Mice lacking the disulfide isomerase-like protein Agr2 have been shown to be more susceptible to colon inflammation. The Agr22/2 mice have less filled goblet cells and were now shown to have a poorly developed inner colon mucus layer. We could not show AGR2 covalently bound to recombinant MUC2 N- and C-termini as have previously been suggested. We found relatively high concentrations of Agr2 in secreted mucus throughout the murine gastrointestinal tract, suggesting that Agr2 may play extracellular roles. In tissue culture (CHO-K1) cells, AGR2 is normally not secreted. Replacement of the single Cys in AGR2 with Ser (C81S) allowed secretion, suggesting that modification of this Cys might provide a mechanism for circumventing the KTEL endoplasmic reticulum retention signal. In conclusion, these results suggest that AGR2 has both intracellular and extracellular effects in the intestine. Biodiversity Data Journal 8: e49943. https://doi.org/10.3897/BDJ.8.e49943 Abstract Public databases in taxonomy, phylogenetics and geographic and fossil occurrence records are key research tools that provide raw materials, on which broad-scale analyses and synthesis in their respective fields are based. Comparable repositories for natural history observations are rare. Publicly available natural history data on traits like diet, habitat and reproduction are scattered across an extensive primary literature and remain relatively inaccessible to researchers interested in using these data for broad-scale analyses in macroecology and macroevolution. In this paper, I introduce SquamataBase, an open-source R package and database of predator-prey records involving the world’s snakes. SquamataBase facilitates the discovery of natural history observations for use in comparative analyses and synthesis and, in its current form, contains observations of at least 18,304 predator individuals comprising 1,227 snake species and at least 58,633 prey items comprising 3,231 prey taxa. To facilitate integration with comparative analysis workflows, the data are distributed inside an R package, which also provides basic functionality for common data manipulation and filtering operations. -

The genome specifics and the expression of genes associated with cell plasticity are analyzed. The simplification of tissue structure is shown using the examples of the sensory retina and brain in mature Urodela. Cells of these and some other tissues are ready to initiate proliferation and manifest the plasticity of their phenotype as well as the correct integration into the pre-existing or de novo forming tissue structure. Without excluding other factors that determine regeneration, the pedomorphosis and juvenile properties, identified on different levels of Urodele amphibians, are assumed to be the main explanation for their high regenerative abilities. These properties, being fundamental for tissue regeneration, have been lost by amniotes. Experiments aimed at mammalian cell rejuvenation currently use various approaches. They include, in particular, methods that use secretomes from regenerating tissues of caudate amphibians and fish for inducing regenerative responses of cells. Such an approach, along with those developed on the basis of knowledge about the molecular and genetic nature and age dependence of regeneration, may become one more step in the development of regenerative medicine Citation: Grigoryan, E.N. CoP17 Prop. 38 Inclusion of False Tomato Frog Dyscophus guineti and Antsouhy Tomato Frog D. insularis in Appendix II Proponent: Madagascar Summary: The False Tomato Frog Dyscophus guineti and the Antsouhy Tomato Frog D. insularis comprise two of three species in the genus Dyscophus, all of which are endemic to Madagascar. The third species, D. antongilii was included in Appendix I in 1987. It is subject to a separate proposal to be transferred from Appendix I to Appendix II (Proposal 37). All three are attractive red-orange coloured frogs. Dyscophus are known to breed explosively with the availability of water during the rainy season (typically January-March) and during that time they can be found in abundance at breeding sites. Hundreds of eggs are laid in water following mating. Dyscophus guineti The known distribution of D. guineti includes a number of patches in the remnant central eastern rainforest of Madagascar. The species is secretive and believed likely to be more widespread than records indicate1. Overall population is unknown; locally the species can vary from extremely common to very rare1. Sexual maturity is attained between two and four years, comparatively earlier in males than in females2. The habitat of the species is affected by conversion of forest to agriculture, timber extraction, charcoal production and potentially small-scale mining activities. The species reportedly does not tolerate severe degredation1. There is not known to be local use of the species. As a consequence of the Appendix-I listing in 1987 of the similar Dyscophus antongilii, collectors interested in "red Dyscophus" have shifted their attention to D. -

They can be distinguished from other known congeners occurred in southern and eastern China by morphological characters and molecular divergence in the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene. M. acuta is characterized by small and slender body with adult females measuring 28.1–33.6 mm and adult males measuring 27.1–33.0 mm in snout-vent length; snout pointed, strongly protruding well be- yond margin of lower jaw; canthus rostralis well developed and sharp; hindlimbs short, the heels not meeting, tibio-tarsal articulation reaching forward the pupil of eye. M. obesa is characterized by stout and slightly small body with adult fe- males measuring 37.5–41.2 mm, adult male measuring 35.6 mm in snout-vent length; snout round in dorsal view; canthus rostralis developed; hindlimbs short, the heels not meeting, tibio-tarsal articulation reaching forward the posterior margin of eye. -
