Lamadrid Photographs by Miguel Gandert or over four centuries, the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro (Royal Road F ofthe Interior) served as the passageway for people, politics, and trade, linking New Mexico with Mexico and the rest of the world.zAs the oldest continually used historical route in North America, much of the initial re­ search on the Camino Real has concentrated on military history, commerce, technology, missions, and genealogy.3 On this foundation, the more elusive contours ofcultural history can be traced through the intangible heritage of the Camino Real. 4 During the early colonial period, the Spanish established missionary projects to convert the local Natives as New Spain expanded into the northlands. EDIBLE MUSHROOMS MARTHA GONZALEZ ELIZONDO Centro Interdisciplinario de Investigacion para el Desarrollo Integral Regional IPN-Unidad Durango Apdo. Postal 738 Durango, Dgo. C.P. 34000 Mexico ABSTRACT.-The Southern Tepehuan is an indigenous group living in the southern part of Durango State and the northern part of Nayarit State in North­ west Mexico. Gathering is still a very important traditional practice among them; in particular reharvestable edible mushrooms are in great demand during the rainy season when they represent an important dietary complement for the people. This paper describes the Tepehuan group, their environment, and how they know and use at least fourteen species of edible fungi. Comments are made with regard to some other edible species of fungi found in the area during the field work as well as to Tepehuan knowledge of poisonous fungi. RESUMEN.-Los Tepehuanes del sur son un grupo etnico que habita en el sur del Estado de Durango y en el norte del Estado de Nayarit, en el noroeste de Mexico. La recoleccion es una practica tradicional entre los tepehuanes; los hongos silvestres comestibles, en particular, tienen una gran demanda durante la epoca de lluvias, cuando representan un complemento importante en la dieta de esta gente. En este trabajo se hace una semblanza del grupo tepehuano y de su medio ambiente, y se describe como utilizan cuando menos catorce especies de hongos silvestres comestibles. Se hacen comentarios acerca de algunas otras especies comestibles encontradas en el area durante el trabajo de campo y acerca del conocimiento que los tepehuanes tienen de los hongos venenosos.

    ORDINANCE O-2019-10 AN ORDINANCE CHANGING THE NAME OF SANTA RITA DRIVE TO LARRY VALDEZ WAY AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, in 2018 the family of Larry Valdez approached the City with a proposal to rename Santa Rita Drive (which is the Colorado Department of Transportation road that connects Colorado HWY 3 with South Camino del Rio) to Larry Valdez Way; and WHEREAS, Larry Valdez, a Durango native, grew up in the area known as Santa Rita which is now home to the Santa Rita Water Reclamation facility and Santa Rita Park; and WHEREAS, Larry Valdez was an Army veteran who served in Vietnam and was awarded 3 Bronze Stars for his heroism in a combat zone and also awarded a Silver Star for his gallantry in action; and WHEREAS, City Council wishes to acknowledge Larry Valdez for his selfless service; and WHEREAS, it is within the City Council’s authority to change the names of streets where it is deemed necessary or desired; and WHEREAS, the Valdez family has raised the money needed to fabricate the new signage to designate Larry Valdez Way. WHEREAS, The Colorado Department of Transportation has expressed support for the renaming proposal and will install the signs following the adoption of this ordinance; and WHEREAS; a public hearing has heretofore been held before the City Council of the City of Durango, and the Council has determined, subsequent to said public hearing, that renaming Santa Rita Drive to Larry Valdez Way is in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Durango and recognizes the contributions of Larry Valdez to the City of Durango, the State of Colorado and the United States; and NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY OF DURANGO HEREBY ORDAINS: Section 1.

Non-members will have access to guidebook papers two years after publication. Members have access to all papers. This is in keeping with our mission of promoting interest, research, and cooperation regarding geology in New Mexico.
