On 9 August, as tallying was ongoing, Odinga announced that the elections database had been hacked and the results were being manipulated in favour of his opponent, and that the hacker had used the credentials of Chris Msando, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ICT manager who had been murdered less than two weeks to the election. A Social History of Private Members’ Clubs in Colonial Kenya This thesis explores the institutional legacy of colonialism through the history of private members clubs in Kenya. In this colony, clubs developed as institutions which were crucial in assimilating Europeans to a race-based, ruling community. Funded and managed by a settler elite of British aristocrats and officers, clubs institutionalized European unity. This was fostered by the rivalry of Asian migrants, whose claims for respectability and equal rights accelerated settlers' cohesion along both political and cultural lines. Thanks to a very bureaucratic apparatus, clubs smoothed European class differences; they fostered a peculiar style of sociability, unique to the colonial context. Clubs were seen by Europeans as institutions which epitomized the virtues of British civilization against native customs. In the mid-1940s, a group of European liberals thought that opening a multi-racial club in Nairobi would expose educated Africans to the refinements of such sociability.

Thus, this Impala, which should have been published a year ago, has passed through several Editors, which held up the primary collation; has survived the Printing Press changing hands, and the consequent loss of the lino-typist; and despite our present frinter being unable to get a work-permit for a dif•erent lino-typisf, and having to rely on a part- time typist, Impala has appeared, albeit almost a twelvemonth in arrears. We have decided that in future a smaller Impala will appear twice a year, with a greater emphasis on being a creative magazine, rather than purely a school record. We hope that the first edition of the year will carry the summarised record of the previous year, while t h e second edition will cover events with more topical -relevance than the present edition does.

The team involves two opposing teams trying to carry an oval shaped ball to the end of a rectangular field, while preventing the other team doing the same it has demands broadly characterized by a high frequency of physical contacts and repeated intermittent bouts of high intensity activity. The game is played at amateur, semiprofessional, and professional levels with the players being divided into two groups, according to their on-field positions (forwards and backs). Forwards are roughly considered to be the ball conquerors and are responsible for the dispute of the ball both in static and dynamic moments of the game. They are involved in all the line outs, scrums and in most of the mauls and rucks. Therefore, they are required to have a group of characteristics that enables them to perform in these situations. Forwards are heavier than backs.
