Denver Art Museum to Premiere Landmark Monet Exhibition Claude Monet: the Truth of Nature Features More Than 100 Works Spanning the Artist’S Entire Career

Denver Art Museum to Premiere Landmark Monet Exhibition Claude Monet: The Truth of Nature features more than 100 works spanning the artist’s entire career DENVER—July 23, 2018—The Denver Art Museum (DAM) will be home to the most comprehensive U.S. exhibition of Monet paintings in more than two decades when it presents Claude Monet: The Truth of Nature, in the fall of 2019. The exhibition will feature more than 100 paintings spanning Monet’s entire career and will focus on the celebrated French impressionist artist’s enduring relationship with nature and his response to the varied and distinct places in which he worked. Co-organized by the DAM and the Museum Barberini in Potsdam, Germany, Denver will be the sole U.S. venue for this presentation from Oct. 20, 2019 through Feb. 2, 2020. The exhibition will travel to the Museum Barberini in the spring of 2020. artworks that will be featured in the presentation. The exhibition will uncover Monet’s continuous Monet traveled more extensively than any other dialogue with nature and its places through a impressionist artist in search of new motifs. Diese Werkschau ist eine der umfangreichsten Retrospektiven, die dem Künstler jemals an einem deutschen Museum gewidmet wurde. Sie entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Denver Art Museum. Anhand von über 100 Gemälden spürt sie den Orten nach, aus denen Monet Inspiration bezog – von Paris und den Seine-Dörfern bis zu Reisezielen wie London oder Venedig. Die Schau versammelt zahlreiche Schlüsselwerke aus sämtlichen Schaffensphasen. Sie ist die erste Ausstellung, die Monets künstlerischen Werdegang im Hinblick auf seine Ortswahl und sein Ortsbewusstsein in den Blick nimmt. Der Ort war für Claude Monet (1840–1926) von entscheidender Bedeutung. Hier traf das von Wetter, Jahres- und Tageszeiten abhängige Licht auf die Landschaft. ANNUAL REPORT 2016 During the year under review Heritage Malta sustained the upbeat momentum and to some extent surpassed the noteworthy achievements of 2015. Besides the inauguration of three major infrastructural projects, two of which co-funded by the EU, and a major exhibition to commemorate the 450th anniversary of the foundation of Valletta, Heritage Malta also managed to register a record in the number of visitors and in the generation of revenue for the fourth year in a row. The Agency’s output comprised also the biggest-ever number of cultural activities, and an impressive outreach programme including thematic sessions for school children and publications. Acquisition of Cultural Heritage Objects 2016 87 3 CAPITAL WORKS ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 DECEMBER 2016 During the year under review works at the Malta Maritime Museum continued with the restoration of the lateral façade and apertures, the structural consolidation of the turrets, and the refurbishment of the St Angelo Hall and kitchen. Catering equipment was also bought to upgrade the kitchen operational capabilities. The office and library upgrades also continued, including a new board room and two sealed reserve collection areas. Further investment was also made in the functions spaces at Fort St Angelo in order to meet clients’ needs and expectations. -

The young – and not so young – spend weeks here taking up our quality English lessons while practicing the language in the time spent out of the classroom. -

THE MALTESE E-NEWSLETTER 169 June2017 1 THE MALTESE E-NEWSLETTER 169 June2017 A Sad Day in Maltese History THE RIOTS OF THE 19 JUNE 1919 The four victims: Karmenu Abela (Valletta), Giuzeppe Bajada (Xaghr a, Gozo), Manwel Attard (Sliema) and Wenzu Dyer (Vittoriosa) Sette Giugno (7 June) is one of Malta’snational days. It is the day to commemorate the death of four Maltese rioters on June 7, 1919. The incident is now marked as a day when Maltese nationalism first surfaced during the BritishColonial period. This was a time when Malta’s economy was dominated by itsstatus as a military outpost. The price of grain had risen sharply, and pricesof bread were to increase. This was largely due to the fact that Maltese merchants were crippled by the costs of insuring their cargo, due to the threatto shipping in the Mediterranean. The flour merchants pleaded with the British government of the time to allow a subsidy, but they were scoffed at. And so,bread prices spiked and the life of Maltese people went from hard toharder. On the day, they converged onValletta, and the government of the time had no idea what was in store. It completely underestimated the gravity of the situation. The first spark of unrest centred on theMaltese flag defaced with the Union Jack flying above the “A la Ville deLondres.” This incident sparked the uprising. The death of the President of theCourt some days earlier had required all governmental departments to fly theUnion Flag at half mast, including the Bibliothèque buildings in PjazzaRegina, and the meteorological office. -

Presse release Presse Potsdam, June 12, 2019 Van Gogh: Still Lifes October 26, to February 2, 2020 Van Gogh: Still Lifes is the first systematic exploration of this important theme in the artist’s work in an exhibition. Of the roughly 800 paintings that Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) created during his ten-year career as an artist, some 170––about a fifth––are still lifes. It is therefore all the more remarkable that there has never been a monographic exhibition dedicated to the genre of the still life in Van Gogh’s work. With exhibitions showcasing Henri-Edmond Cross and Pablo Picasso, the Museum Barberini launched a series dedicated to French modernist artists. Aspects of their work that have been neglected until now have been approached from new angles in international symposia held by the museum. In the autumn of 2019, the Museum Barberini will continue this series with the first exhibition of Vincent van Gogh’s still lifes. The carefully chosen selection of 27 paintings traces the development of the artist’s work from the earthy tones and simple everyday objects of the early paintings and the floral still lifes of his time in Paris to his radiant, exuberant southern motifs. From his very first painting, Still Life with Cabbage and Clogs (Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam)––created at the end of 1881 in The Hague––to the vibrant floral works painted in Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890, during the last months of the artist’s life, for example Blossoming Chestnut Branches (Foundation E. H. Bührle, Zürich), Van Gogh returned to still lifes time and again. -

marian goodman gallery FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GERHARD RICHTER 28 February – 25 April 2020 Exhibition on view: Friday, 28 February 2020 Marian Goodman Gallery New York is very pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Gerhard Richter, on view from Friday, 28 February, through Saturday, 25 April 2020. The exhibition will present new abstract paintings and new drawings from the past three years, as well as a series of ink jet prints from 2012, and overpainted photos from 2008. The show coincides with a comprehensive survey of the artist’s work at The Met Breuer, New York, Gerhard Richter: Painting After All which will open to the public on 4 March 2020 and be on view through 5 July 2020. The current exhibition marks the return to abstract painting that has been at the core of Gerhard Richter’s practice since he returned to the brush and squeegee in 2014, following a period of exploration from 2008 forward of digital technologies applied to painting in the Strips — and chance techniques in the poured lacquer Reverse Glass works. Richter’s return to painting at this juncture included an important cycle of abstract works, Birkenau, which utilized abstraction in an inspired confrontation with history, and new landscapes which focused on erasure of the figurative in favor of the abstract. The new series of abstract works on view continue the trajectory reintroduced five years ago. The new paintings from 2016 to 2018 are mostly drawn from the Gerhard Richter Foundation and have been featured in important recent museum exhibitions of Richter’s work, such as Gerhard Richter: New Paintings at The Museum Ludwig, Cologne and the Albertinium, Dresden in 2017, and Gerhard Richter: Abstraction at Museum Barberini, Potsdam in 2018. -

Press release Press Potsdam, June 18, 2020 Impressionism: The Hasso Plattner Collection From September 7, 2020 at the Museum Barberini Beginning on September 7, 2020, the Museum Barberini in Potsdam will present a permanent display of the extensive collection of Impressionist paintings of the museum’s founder, Hasso Plattner, including masterpieces by Monet, Renoir, and Signac. With thirty- four paintings by Claude Monet, there is no venue in Europe outside of Paris where visitors can see more works by this painter. This makes Potsdam one of the most important international centers of Impressionist landscape painting. The Museum Barberini now showcases a collection that is unique in Germany in addition to its temporary exhibitions mounted in cooperation with museums all over the world. Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Auguste Renoir, and Alfred Sisley formed a group in the 1860s and revolutionized art with light-infused landscapes that were liberated from the traditional subject matter of the era. In 1874 they became known as the “Impressionists,” who preferred to paint outdoors and captured fleeting impressions directly on the canvas. Artists such as Berthe Morisot, Paul Cézanne, and Gustave Caillebotte joined this new movement. More than a decade later, colleagues such as Paul Signac and Henri-Edmond Cross further developed the painting style of these pioneers, and even Pablo Picasso was inspired by the Impressionist style in 1901, the first year he spent in Paris. With its focus on the fleeting moment, this movement has lost none of its original charm. The Impressionists wanted to paint everything in a fresh way. Their gift of observation resulted in realistic images of surprising abstraction.
