Welcome to PROSPECTIVE / NEW MEMBERS

Welcome to Jason Delumpa, a new prospective full member. I’m currently a Vallejo resident and have lived here for almost 32 years now. As an entrepreneur, I’m actively networking and enjoy meeting new people. I first got introduced to the Vallejo Yacht Club by a good friend and invited me out one day. Instantly, I was attracted to the welcoming atmosphere, great scenery, and wonderful people. Also, I’ve always wanted to take a ride on a yacht and so I thought, here’s my chance. I recently joined as a member on December 2017. And I look forward to riding on the yachts, attending the annual events, and meeting new friends!

The Crow's Nest Revival

What exactly is the Crow’s Nest Revival? The Crow’s Nest is a special editorial feature of the Binnacle that tells of the happenings and travels of our yacht club members. The Crow’s Nest originally appeared in the 80s and was edited by Margot MacKerrow. We are now reviving that tradition and bringing it back to the Binnacle. Here is the first Crow’s Nest report of the year.

Dale Jennings left Fanning Island on January 10th, headed to Palmyra Island. He arrived at Palmyra on the 12th with a blown out mainsail. Apparently, Palmyra is a research island and no one is allowed to stay except the researchers, but since Dale had what they considered a "life threatening" issue, they allowed him to stay 2 days at anchor to repair his sail. He said there are only a handful of researchers on the island, but they ferried him back and forth, did his laundry for him and even treated him to a coke so he could have a rum and coke! A big change from Fanning Island. With the mainsail stitched back together with his trusty Sailrite machine, he sailed off on the 14th and headed to American Samoa, 1200 miles away. As of last night, he had about 800 miles to go and was at Lat. 3.39 S and Long. 164.37 W.

On their summer vacation in , Binnacle Editor Samantha Prince and her travel companion Milton Beral chartered a boat for a day sail in Split, Croatia. While on their mid-winter trip to Hawaii, they both received the famous Hawaii missile attack emergency alerts on their phones. By the time they made it to brunch, the alerts had been recalled, so they could still enjoy a breakfast of fresh papaya and pineapple. Despite all this, the weather was perfect, and their travel was safe with no delays.

Kind reader, I hope you enjoyed reading this new year revival of the Crow’s Nest .

Know of any special travel or adventures of yacht club members? Short reports are ideal . Photos welcome . Please send your Crow’s Nest reports to binnacleeditor@vyc .org
