A much reduced number of finished cattle on offer this week with only a handful of premium butchers’ types although demand was strong for all and many more could have been sold. A trio of Limousin x heifers from Mr. W.J.P. Julian of Summercourt led the averages topping at 222p/kg for heaviest 626kg heifer bought by R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow, also standing overall top value at £1,390. His next in line realised 220p/kg and £1,311 to Chris Dale of Dales Family Butchers, .

A reasonable entry forward although less in number than last week met with improved demand with very strong trade for the beef and dairy barren cows, the heavier and well- fleshed sorts selling particularly well. Leading Friesian from Messrs. D.R. & B. Badcock of Crowlas, weighing 869kg and selling at 145p/kg she realised £1,260 to Dawn West Devon of Hatherleigh. Premium beef cow at 146p/kg was a Charolais x for Mr. W.J.P. Julian of Summercourt bought by David King of Exeter. A big 1173kg Hereford cull bull from Messrs. D.C. & W.A. Thomas of Tresillian sold well at 114p/kg and £1,337 to David Ellis of Lelant.

A good entry for early July contained fewer single-suckled cattle but with super batches from South and other parts of the County and even from the Holsworthy district. Trade is strong for the close-to-finishing cattle and with plentiful grass supplies is even stronger for the younger ones. Overall top at £1,125 was a 26 month old Limousin x from Mr. I. Alford of Newmill. Steers to £1,065 for a bunch of four Hereford crosses from Messrs. E.V. & B.K. Benney & Son of Garras. Four strong 13-15 month old Limousin x steers from Mr. A.J. Jelbert of Mitchell sold well at £925, with an entry of eight same age Limousin x heifers in from Messrs. R.G. & J.M. Prowse of St. Allen to £750.

A larger entry this week were keenly sought after by a good audience of buyers pushing prices up yet further. Top price at £300 was a 4-week old Limousin x from J.C. & F.C. Tripconey Ltd of Black Rock with heifers led by a strong fortnight-old British Blue x from Mr. W.R. Davey of Probus at £228. Several stirks again this week with a highlight being a dozen May-born British Blue crosses from Messrs. R.D. Richards & Son of Ladock with males selling to £395 and pair of heifers at £382. Older stirks saw males top at £535 and heifers to £385.
