Honorable Finalist, Level I Grace Sugaski Letter to author “Erin Hunter” (authors Victoria Holmes, Kate Cary, Cherith Baldry, Gillian Philip, Inbali Iserles, Tui T. Sutherland, and Rosie Best) concerning Bluestar’s Prophecy Dear “Erin Hunter:” In your book Bluestar’s Prophecy, I knew right away, when Bluestar’s character was introduced, that she was a noble and fair leader. She offered Rusty a place in her clan because of her shortage of warriors. I thought that was a very wise decision. I always wished I could be as calm and wise as Bluestar. Little did I know about her sad and troubled past. As I read your book, I felt like I could relate to her character as she was growing up. Bluestar’s Prophecy reminded me of the quote “Be kind, for everyone is fighting their own battles.” I try to be more patient, which all of the Warriors books have reminded me, as I face my own battles. I lost my mom in 2013. I blamed myself because I thought I could have said goodbye or visited her one more time. I felt lonely. I am an only child, and my dad has since remarried. A lot of times, to this day, I feel lonely, and that my family doesn’t love me very much. I am not used to the treatment that is much less gentle than what I received from my mother. This is kind of like how Bluestar’s father never paid her and her sister much attention. It is miraculous how well Bluestar turned out as a warrior and as a character.

TOXICOLOGICAL PROFILE FOR LEAD U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES Public Health Service Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry August 2007 LEAD ii DISCLAIMER The use of company or product name(s) is for identification only and does not imply endorsement by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. LEAD iii UPDATE STATEMENT A Toxicological Profile for Lead, Draft for Public Comment was released in September 2005. This edition supersedes any previously released draft or final profile. Toxicological profiles are revised and republished as necessary. For information regarding the update status of previously released profiles, contact ATSDR at: Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry Division of Toxicology and Environmental Medicine/Applied Toxicology Branch 1600 Clifton Road NE Mailstop F-32 Atlanta, Georgia 30333 LEAD iv This page is intentionally blank. v FOREWORD This toxicological profile is prepared in accordance with guidelines developed by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The original guidelines were published in the Federal Register on April 17, 1987. Each profile will be revised and republished as necessary. The ATSDR toxicological profile succinctly characterizes the toxicologic and adverse health effects information for the hazardous substance described therein. Each peer-reviewed profile identifies and reviews the key literature that describes a hazardous substance's toxicologic properties. Other pertinent literature is also presented, but is described in less detail than the key studies. The profile is not intended to be an exhaustive document; however, more comprehensive sources of specialty information are referenced. The focus of the profiles is on health and toxicologic information; therefore, each toxicological profile begins with a public health statement that describes, in nontechnical language, a substance's relevant toxicological properties.

  • Victoria Holmes Cherith Baldry
As you may have heard, Erin Hunter is actually six people! She is experienced children’s book writers Victoria Holmes, Cherith Baldry, Kate Cary, Tui Sutherland, Gillian Philip and Inbali Iserles. Victoria Holmes I grew up on a farm and love all animals, including cats, but most especially dogs and horses. This comes in very handy when I need to send cats to a sticky end—I'd have a lot more trouble killing off a dog or a horse! I love being one of the Erins, and frequently dream of being a cat running through a forest when I am coming up with new story lines. Teaming up with Kate and Cherith on the Warriors books is an unconventional way of working, but we love writing the books together and it means we can produce them much faster than a single writer could. We each have our favorite characters and ideas for what could happen next, which means the stories have three times as much energy and passion Cherith Baldry I grew up on a farm, so of course I grew up with cats—working cats who kept down the mice in the house and barns, but were still friendly house cats who would play and curl up on a lap. My first cat after I married was a grey tabby called Tomlyn. We acquired him while we were out in Africa, teaching at the University of Sierra Leone. He was part Siamese, part African bush cat, and one of the friendliest cats I've ever known. When we came back to the UK we brought him with us; although he had to stay in quarantine for six months, he didn't forget us, and when we went to visit him he climbed all over us, shedding hair and purring like mad! My next cat was called Schrodinger, after the Austrian physicist—my husband Peter was a scientist.

  • 2017-Sisters-Healthcare-Letter-With
Since this letter was circulated, Senate leadership has repeatedly changed course – from the BCRA, to a repeal of the Affordable Care Act without a replacement, to amendments of bills from 2015. This is not good governance. Catholic Sisters are united in defense of our nation’s most vulnerable, who are most at risk in these healthcare negotiations. Rather than continuing to negotiate partisan legislation that would cause tens of millions of Americans to lose access to health coverage, Congress should seek bipartisan solutions to expand quality, affordable coverage. As Catholic Sisters, we stand by our belief that health is a universal right and urge Senators to vote no on the motion to proceed for any bill that would repeal the ACA and cut Medicaid. July 24, 2017 United States Senate Capitol Building Washington, DC 20510 Dear Senators: We, more than 7,000 Catholic Sisters in the United States, write to urge you to cast a life- affirming “no” vote against the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA). We have many concerns with this bill, but we are most troubled by the cuts it would make to Medicaid by ending the Medicaid expansion and instituting a per capita cap. Our faith urges us to care for all people and all of creation, especially the most vulnerable. The BCRA would be the most harmful legislation for American families in our lifetimes, and it goes against our Catholic faith teaching. As Pope Francis teaches, “health is not a consumer good, but a universal right, so access to health services cannot be a privilege.” Responding to this integral part of our faith, many of our religious congregations founded hospitals and hospital systems in the United States.

Jan 29, 989 PRESIDENT'S LETTER Dear Cousins, I don’t know about the rest of you, but we have had more than enough of winter. We have so much snow we’ve run out of room to put it. It will be in the shopping centers and parking lots till April. We’re driving through mazes. It’s crunch time for the Convention. We have only a few reservations. We need lots more. Remember, the excursion to Philadelphia is Friday, April 23, to avoid weekend crowds. We have 75 tickets reserved for the tour. We have a trip planned to Valley Forge on Saturday. We also suggested a car trip to Gettysburg, possibly on Sunday, but we need to know if people are interested in that. You should take time to go to New Castle, about 15 miles away, to see where William Penn really landed, not in Philadelphia. If anybody wants to bring children to the convention, they can order from the menu for the banquet. The prices for everything else will be the same as adults as they will be counted as an individual. Don’t forget the cut-off date is March 15. After that we will release the second bus if we don’t have enough count. While this will primarily be a touring convention, there will be time to visit and compare notes on family connections. Bring anything you think might be of interest to the other cousins or that they might be able to help with.
