This area is quickly becoming the ‘horse centre” of South Africa and is often referred to as “South Africa’s French Rivera” The sweeping Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains are the backdrop to our farm which was especially chosen as a home for the rare, precious, indigenous Nooitgedacht Horses! A stream running through the property is the head water of the Piesang River. It meanders along the boundary of the property and is framed by stony cliffs hiding rare ferns, cycads, Outeniqua yellowwood, ironwood and stinkwood. Spec- tacular view sites abound and can be enjoyed on a misty, early morning outride. An entire section of the farm has been left to natural indigenous Fynbos and with its huge diversity of flowering plants there is always a stunning flower show to appreciate. 1 About the Nooitgedachter Translated from Afrikaans, Nooitgedacht means “Never Imagined” an apt name for a horse that will exceed all your expecta- tions! Gentle, trustworthy and fearless, the Nooitgedachter is ideal for equi-tourism as it is and excellent horse for occasional and inexperienced riders. It is perfect for use in nature reserves for eco-friendly game viewing, patrolling fences and hunting. The Nooitgedachter is an extremely versatile horse. As is it both willing and agile, they excel as competing horses success- fully in jumping, dressage, showing, endurance, gymkhana, hacking and in harness. Their high degree of intelligence and loving nature makes them very easy to train and handle. Bold, manageable, reliable and surefooted, the Nooitgedachters are wonderful horses for all ages. Breed Qualities at a Glance Most importantly the Nooitgedacht is famed for its incredibly soft nature and intelligence. They are known to be “mense- liewend” translated as “people loving”. Their affinity for people cannot be over emphasized. They must be a strongly built, with the emphasis on ride-ability and endurance. Hardiness is vital, with a sturdy bone structure, strong muscles and excellent feet. A compact build, short back, sloping shoulders and comfortable gaits, enables them to carry a heavy man (80-90 kg) for long distances without becoming tired or tiring the rider. Another characteristic of the breed is its surefootedness and hooves that do not need to be shod. Because they require so little care and they are able to live on the veldt they are very easy to keep. This is a trait of the Basuto Pony from which they emanate. Regulatory Hierarchy for Energy Generation Projects The South African energy industry is evolving rapidly, with regular changes to legislation and industry role-players. The regulatory hierarchy for an energy generation project of this nature consists of three tiers of authority who exercise control through both statutory and non-statutory instruments (i.e. National, Provincial, and Local). The main regulatory agencies at a national level include: » Department of Energy (DoE) - the DoE is the controlling authority in terms of the Electricity Act (Act No. 41 of 1987), and is responsible for policy relating to energy including renewable energy. Wind energy is considered under the White Paper for Renewable Energy and the DoE undertakes research in this regard. » National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) - this body is responsible for regulating all aspects of the electricity sector, and will ultimately issue generation licenses for renewable energy developments. » Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) - this department is responsible for environmental policy and is the controlling authority in terms of NEMA and the EIA Regulations.     MISGUND ORCHARDS ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT 2014 Grey Rhebok Pelea capreolus Prepared for Mr Wayne Baldie By Language of the Wilderness Foundation Trust In March 2002 a baseline environmental audit was completed by Conservation Management Services. This foundational document has served its purpose. The two (2) recommendations have been addressed namely; a ‘black wattle control plan’ in conjunction with Working for Water Alien Eradication Programme and a survey of the fish within the rivers was also addressed. Furthermore updated species lists have resulted (based on observations and studies undertaken within the region). The results of these efforts have highlighted the significance of the farm Misgund Orchards and the surrounds, within the context of very special and important biodiversity. Misgund Orchards prides itself with a long history of fruit farming excellence, and has strived to ensure a healthy balance between agricultural priorities and our environment. Misgund Orchards recognises the need for a more holistic and co-operative regional approach towards our environment and needs to adapt and design a more sustainable approach. The context of Misgund Orchards is significant, straddling the protected areas Formosa Forest Reserve (Niekerksberg) and the Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve. A formidable mountain wilderness with World Heritage Status and a Global Biodiversity Hotspot (See Map 1 overleaf). LOCATION AND ENVIRONMENT Much of the proposed power line is located along or close to the Langkloof and R62 Scenic Routes, roughly parallel to and south of the Suuranysberge and the Krom River. It starts at the proposed Dieprivier Substation west of Humansdorp, passes north of the Churchill Dam and the town of Kareedouw, with the eponymous mountains to the south, before terminating at the existing Kareedouw Substation. Historical agriculture related land-uses have resulted in degradation of portions of the route, most notably as a result of crop and pasture cultivation in flat lower lying areas, and to some extent from regular burning of grazing areas on mountain and hill slopes.

Savanna Biome. southern and southwestern Cape, Succulent Karoo Biome ABSTRACT The frequency and abundance of invasive alien plants were recorded along roadsides and at watercourse crossings in 82.9% (145/175) of the quarter degree squares in the study area (3I-35°S, 17-25°E and covering ± 90 000 km:). The sur­ vey yielded 102 species of which the most prominent (in order of prominence) in roadside and veld (natural and modified) habitats were: Acacia cyclops, A. saligna and A. mearnsii The most prominent species (in order of prominence) in stream- bank habitats were: A. mearnsii, A. saligna and Populus x canescens. The greatest intensity of invasion was recorded in forest and fynbos vegetation types in the relatively narrow belt stretching from the coastline to the tops of the coastal mountain ranges In the coastal lowlands Acacia cyclops and A. saligna form the most extensive and continuous stands of alien vegetation recorded anywhere in South Africa.   • The Tsitsikamma Mountains Form an East-West Range in the Southern Region of the South African Coast in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape Provinces
    2019 The Tsitsikamma mountains form an east-west range in the southern region of the 2019 South African coast in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces. Stretching just over 80 km from the Keurbooms River in the west just north of Plettenberg Bay, to Kareedouw Pass in the east, near the town of Kareedouw. It forms a continuous range with the Outeniqua Mountains to the west. The range consists almost exclusively of Table Mountain sandstone which is extremely erosion-resistant. Peak Formosa is the highest point in the range at 1675m. The climate of the range is extremely mild, with temperature variations only between 10°C and 25°C generally and rainfall exceeding 1000mm per annum, thus the region supports verdant fynbos and Afro-Mantane temperate gallery forest habitats. Snow sometimes occurs on the highest peaks in winter. The topography of the mountains is interesting, in that the range rises abruptly from the south at a very defined line that runs almost due east-west at the 34º south latitude. The Storms River Bridge was one of the first arch bridges in South Africa with a span of 100m over the gorge at a height of 123m above the river. In 1954 a Roman professor was appointed to construct a bridge over the Storms River to link Port Elizabeth to George via the N2. Completed in 1956, the Ricardo Morandi designed bridge was built 15 years prior to Van Stadens and 28 years before the 3 Bloukrans-area arches came along in 1984. Storms River is unusual for having inclined spandrel supports that radiate out from the main arch rib.
