8-Day Adventure & Safari Itinerary 8-DAY ADVENTURE & SAFARI Set off on an exciting adventure trip as you embark on your choice of the fun filled activities - there are so many available in this spectacular part of the country. You visit the breath- taking Tsitsikamma area with its Indigenous forest and dramatic coastline. You spend a few nights on safari in the big 5 Lalibela Game Reserve and then head back along the coast with a stop at the temperate Mossel Bay which Is home to the longest over-ocean zipline in the world. ITINERARY: Day 01 f Departure to Tsitsikamma Set off from Cape Town and make your way along the N2 passing Swellendam before heading into the Garden Route. You continue along, travelling through this beautiful part of the country as you bypass Mossel Bay, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay before reaching the Tsitsikamma area. You have a two-night stay here. Accommodation: Misty Mountain or similar Day 01 & 02 f Tsitsikamma (2 nights) Tsitsikamma is a Khoi word meaning "place of abundant or sparkling water". The region stretches from the Bloukrans River in the west to Eerste Rivier in the east, is bordered on the north by the imposing Tsitsikamma Mountains and in the south by the Indian Ocean. The area is covered in large tracts of indigenous forest, commercial plantation and Fynbos. Deep river gorges cleft the plateau as they make their way down to the sea, creating spectacular waterfalls and deep kloofs. Suggested Activities | Tsitsikamma Area Treetop Canopy Tour - Here you will experience the wonders of the forest, suspended 30 metres up in the forest canopy. The Tree Top Canopy tour involves traversing from one platform high up in a yellowwood tree to another along a steel cable. Guides at each platform inform guests about the forest flora and fauna. This tour is suitable for all ages from 7 to 70. Explore Storms River Mouth and the Tsitsikamma National Forest - Activities available at Storms River Mouth include several short walking trails through the forest to the swing bridge or along the shore, bathing at the small beach, snorkelling, scuba-diving, kayaking and boat trips. Kayak & Lilo up the Storms River - The 2-3 hour Storms River kayak & lilo adventure is very popular and great for those keen to explore deeper into the Storms River Gorge, and experience the long, deep, quiet pools with deep caves and ancient forests. (wetsuits are available to hire as well) Bloukrans Bungy - The bungy jump takes place from the top of the arch of Africa’s biggest bridge. ** additional activities are available - contact us for a list of what to see and do in this area Day 03 f Tsitsikamma to Lalibela Game Reserve Enjoy breakfast before departing Tsitsikamma to reach your safari destination around mid- day. You check into Big Five game reserve, Lalibela. Upon arrival you are transferred from reception to your lodge where you are greeted by your lodge manager and have time to settle in before your afternoon game activity. Days 03 to 06 f Lalibela Game Reserve (3 nights) Lalibela Game Reserve is a 10,500 hectare Big Five game reserve in the heart of Eastern Cape game country. Lalibela brings you the charm of authentic Africa and is a perfect blend of the formal and informal. Accommodation: Mark's Camp Included Activities | Daily Safari Programme at Lalibela Game Reserve Upon arrival at Lalibela Game Reserve you are transferred from reception to your lodge, where you are given a welcome drink and your safari experience will be explained to you by your lodge host. There will be time to settle in before lunch followed by your first game drive. Game drives take place in the early morning and evening to ensure game viewing when animals are most active. Night game drives provide a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the predators. You return to your lodge in time for a sumptuous safari cuisine dinner. The next day after a light snack you are taken on a morning game drive. You return to the lodge for a grand brunch. Then there is time to relax around the sunny pool, do some birdwatching from the observation deck or read a book in the peace of your room’s private veranda. You set off on another evening game drive, returning in time for dinner. On your day of departure, you will do a morning game drive before leaving. Day 06 f Lalibela Game Reserve to Mossel Bay The day starts as dawn breaks, enjoy your final morning game drive and a grand brunch prior to your departure. You are transferred to reception where you collect your vehicle and depart Lalibela. You head back along the N2 bypassing Port Elizabeth, Tsitsikamma, Plettenberg Bay and Knysna before reaching Mossel Bay this afternoon - you have a two- night stay here. Accommodation: Bar-T-Nique or similar Day 06 & 07f Mossel Bay (2 nights) You have two nights In Mossel Bay. Although the town's sprawling outskirts aren't much to look at, as soon as you reach the ocean, you’ll find protected sandy bays that are perfect for swimming, sailing and kayaking. It is situated on a spectacular sun washed peninsula embraced by the warm Indian Ocean. No wonder the town is featured in the Guinness Book of Records as having the mildest all-year climate, second only to Hawaii. Suggested Activities | Mossel Bay Area Mossel Bay Zipline – the longest over-the-ocean zip line in the world! Spanning approximately 1100 meters in length (and reaching up to 90km/h*), the zip line lets you glide over the bay for an adrenaline-fuelled experience. Get a bird’s eye view of the caves below, look out for the local sharks and seals below or simply take in the beauty of this incredible natural landscape from a unique viewpoint that tops any other! Shark Cage Diving Points of Origin Tour - Mitochondrial DNA research has shown that all humans alive today descend from a small population that lived between 150,000 and 200,000 years ago. Archaeological research has shown that at least some of those people lived in Mossel Bay.     MISGUND ORCHARDS ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT 2014 Grey Rhebok Pelea capreolus Prepared for Mr Wayne Baldie By Language of the Wilderness Foundation Trust In March 2002 a baseline environmental audit was completed by Conservation Management Services. This foundational document has served its purpose. The two (2) recommendations have been addressed namely; a ‘black wattle control plan’ in conjunction with Working for Water Alien Eradication Programme and a survey of the fish within the rivers was also addressed. Furthermore updated species lists have resulted (based on observations and studies undertaken within the region). The results of these efforts have highlighted the significance of the farm Misgund Orchards and the surrounds, within the context of very special and important biodiversity. Misgund Orchards prides itself with a long history of fruit farming excellence, and has strived to ensure a healthy balance between agricultural priorities and our environment. Misgund Orchards recognises the need for a more holistic and co-operative regional approach towards our environment and needs to adapt and design a more sustainable approach. The context of Misgund Orchards is significant, straddling the protected areas Formosa Forest Reserve (Niekerksberg) and the Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve. A formidable mountain wilderness with World Heritage Status and a Global Biodiversity Hotspot (See Map 1 overleaf). LOCATION AND ENVIRONMENT Much of the proposed power line is located along or close to the Langkloof and R62 Scenic Routes, roughly parallel to and south of the Suuranysberge and the Krom River. It starts at the proposed Dieprivier Substation west of Humansdorp, passes north of the Churchill Dam and the town of Kareedouw, with the eponymous mountains to the south, before terminating at the existing Kareedouw Substation. Historical agriculture related land-uses have resulted in degradation of portions of the route, most notably as a result of crop and pasture cultivation in flat lower lying areas, and to some extent from regular burning of grazing areas on mountain and hill slopes.

Savanna Biome. southern and southwestern Cape, Succulent Karoo Biome ABSTRACT The frequency and abundance of invasive alien plants were recorded along roadsides and at watercourse crossings in 82.9% (145/175) of the quarter degree squares in the study area (3I-35°S, 17-25°E and covering ± 90 000 km:). The sur­ vey yielded 102 species of which the most prominent (in order of prominence) in roadside and veld (natural and modified) habitats were: Acacia cyclops, A. saligna and A. mearnsii The most prominent species (in order of prominence) in stream- bank habitats were: A. mearnsii, A. saligna and Populus x canescens. The greatest intensity of invasion was recorded in forest and fynbos vegetation types in the relatively narrow belt stretching from the coastline to the tops of the coastal mountain ranges In the coastal lowlands Acacia cyclops and A. saligna form the most extensive and continuous stands of alien vegetation recorded anywhere in South Africa.   • The Tsitsikamma Mountains Form an East-West Range in the Southern Region of the South African Coast in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape Provinces
    2019 The Tsitsikamma mountains form an east-west range in the southern region of the 2019 South African coast in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces. Stretching just over 80 km from the Keurbooms River in the west just north of Plettenberg Bay, to Kareedouw Pass in the east, near the town of Kareedouw. It forms a continuous range with the Outeniqua Mountains to the west. The range consists almost exclusively of Table Mountain sandstone which is extremely erosion-resistant. Peak Formosa is the highest point in the range at 1675m. The climate of the range is extremely mild, with temperature variations only between 10°C and 25°C generally and rainfall exceeding 1000mm per annum, thus the region supports verdant fynbos and Afro-Mantane temperate gallery forest habitats. Snow sometimes occurs on the highest peaks in winter. The topography of the mountains is interesting, in that the range rises abruptly from the south at a very defined line that runs almost due east-west at the 34º south latitude. The Storms River Bridge was one of the first arch bridges in South Africa with a span of 100m over the gorge at a height of 123m above the river. In 1954 a Roman professor was appointed to construct a bridge over the Storms River to link Port Elizabeth to George via the N2. Completed in 1956, the Ricardo Morandi designed bridge was built 15 years prior to Van Stadens and 28 years before the 3 Bloukrans-area arches came along in 1984. Storms River is unusual for having inclined spandrel supports that radiate out from the main arch rib.
