Not all of them know if they will achieve a permanent position, but they have one thing in common: they are all working at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth, England.

Mercedes AMG HPP offers apprenticeships in the workplace in both catering and engineering, and also sponsors young apprentices through their college studies. The apprentice intake commences in September of each year.

02:07 For graduate recruitment, Brixworth offers two paths: around 20 one-year placements for students as part of their university studies; and then approximately 12 placements per year on the graduate scheme. This lasts for two years and provides participants with placements in different areas of the company. Since 2007, around 50 engineers have either taken part in the programme or are currently on it. Applications for the 2013 intake open in September 2012.

You have to have the academic qualification I'm afraid, but the second opportunity then is to demonstrate what have you done in the past, have you renovated or restored your own car, have you maybe done a little bit of simple racing yourself, have you spent your weekends servicing someones Formula Ford car. All those sort of things help in terms of creating a differentiation between people that we believe they're gonna be successful in this industry and those who are not. >>03:57
