Received: 30 March 2019 / Accepted 04 July 2019 / Publication date: 20 July 2019 ABSTRACT Tourism comes between the main four sources of national income in Egypt, cultural Tourism is one of the most significant and oldest kinds of tourism in Egypt, and so Egypt needs to create new historic attraction. The research focuses on domestic architecture in Garden City that can be attributed a range of values such as an economic, an aesthetic, a use, a sentimental and a symbolic. This research aims to save our historical palaces in Egypt and realize the economic opportunity for the lowest-income community. The research studies many Garden City palaces and highlights the threats facing these cultural treasures. In the start of 21st century, we have lost a lot of our best historic palaces. One of the solutions that have been put forward for the Garden City is the conversion of some streets in Garden City to be pedestrian streets, the Primary aim to achieve environmentally sustainable development and tourism development for the region. Research methodology is a methodology analytical practical support to reach the goal of research through: (1) monitoring the sources of the current national income in Egypt in general. (2) The current reality of the palaces of Garden City. -

Fault Lines: Sinai Peninsula 20 OCT 2017 The Sinai Peninsula is a complicated operational environment (OE). At present, there are a number of interconnected conditions creating instability and fostering a favorable environment for the growth of Islamic extremist groups. Egypt is battling this situation with large-scale security operations, yet militant activity is not diminishing. The Egyptian government, in coordination with the Israeli government, is placing renewed interest on countering insurgent actors in the region and establishing a lasting security. Despite its best effort, Egypt has been largely unsuccessful. A variety of factors have contributed to the continued rise of the insurgents. We submit there are four key fault lines contributing to instability. These fault lines are neither mutually exclusive nor are they isolated to the Sinai. In fact, they are inexorably intertwined, in ways between Egypt, Israel, and the Sinai Peninsula. Issues related to faults create stability complications, legitimacy concerns, and disidentification problems that can be easily exploited by interested actors. It is essential to understand the conditions creating the faults, the escalation that results from them operating at the same time, and the potential effects for continued insecurity and ultimately instability in the region. Egypt in Transition The Third Republic BY M. CHERIF BASSIOUNI n January 25, 2011, the Egyptian people took to the streets and in 18 days were able to bring down the 30-year corrupt dictatorial regime of Hosni Mubarak, using entirely Opeaceful means. That revolution set the Arab Republic of Egypt on a hopeful path to democracy. After Mubarak resigned, the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) became the custodian of the transition. In June of 2012, in Egypt’s first free and fair presidential election, Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohammed Morsi was elected President. Slightly more than 50 percent of registered voters actually voted, and those voters gave Morsi a majority of just less than 52 percent. Having won by this slim margin, Morsi was sworn in as President on June 30, 2012, and thus the Second Republic came to be.1 He was removed by the military on July 3, 2013 and a temporary President, Adly Mansour, was appointed on July 4, 2013. Thus began the Third Republic. The Second Republic Five months later, Morsi declared his decisions beyond judicial review, and thus his authority unchallengeable. In December, 2012, he pushed a pro-Islamist constitution through a popular referendum; it passed but with less than 30 percent of the popular vote. There was no constitu- tional way to recall, impeach, or remove Morsi. The path to democracy was taking a turn towards theocratic autocracy. The serving People’s Assembly (Majliss al-Sha‘ab) had been elected under a law later declared unconstitutional. Over 60 percent of the members of the new parliament were Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and Salafists. -

Written Testimony of Dr. Nancy Okail Executive Director Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy Hearing on “Egypt Two Years After Morsi: Part I” before the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs May 20, 2015 1 Chairman Ros-Lehtinen, Ranking Member Deutch, and members of the Subcommittee, thank you for holding this important hearing to discuss the current human rights and security situation in Egypt since the overthrow of former President Mohamed Morsi in 2013. Four days ago, on May 16, ousted President Mohamed Morsi and more than one hundred others were sentenced to death for charges of conspiring with foreign militants to free imprisoned Islamists.1 The same day, three Egyptian judges were shot dead in North Sinai2 and a policeman was killed on the outskirts of Cairo. The incidents of that day are notable in that they serve as examples of the continuing instability that Egypt faces. Since the days of hope and inspiration following the January 25, 2011, revolution, Egypt has experienced several waves of instability, which come with many inherent challenges. More than four years after the revolution, these challenges have prevented real, tangible, and significant changes from taking place in Egypt. Unfortunately, in the minds of many, these challenges have also reinforced a false dichotomy between economic stability and security on one hand and democracy and human rights on the other. History tells us that this assumption is flawed: Egypt, for the longest time, was considered the most stable country in the region and for that reason President Hosni Mubarak was supported for three decades, only to be toppled in only 18 days of popular protests. -

Egypt: Background and U.S. Relations Updated June 7, 2018 Congressional Research Service https://crsreports.congress.gov RL33003 Egypt: Background and U.S. Relations Summary This report provides an overview of the key issues for Congress related to Egypt and U.S. foreign aid to Egypt. Historically, Egypt has been an important country for U.S. national security interests based on its geography, demography, and diplomatic posture. The United States has provided significant military and economic assistance to Egypt since the late 1970s. Successive U.S. Administrations have justified aid to Egypt as an investment in regional stability, built primarily on long-running cooperation with the Egyptian military and on sustaining the 1979 Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty. Additionally, U.S. leaders have consistently expressed concerns about governance and human rights in Egypt, and differences over these issues have tested bilateral relations repeatedly in recent years. In 2011, the United States encouraged Egypt’s long-serving President Hosni Mubarak to step down in the face of a popular uprising, and revised U.S. assistance programs two years later, when the Egyptian military intervened to oust Mubarak’s elected successor, Muhammad Morsi, amid popular demands. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi, who led the 2013 military intervention and was elected in mid-2014, reportedly has high hopes for improving bilateral relations through engagement with the Trump Administration. President Trump has sought to improve U.S. relations with Egypt, which were perceived as strained under President Obama. Nevertheless, Administration officials have raised concerns about Egypt’s new NGO law and the continued detention of American citizens in Egypt. -

Al Jazeera journalists Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed were sentenced last month to three years in prison for spreading false news and alleged support of the Muslim Brotherhood. Fahmy and Mohamed’s families reacted joyfully at the news. Fahmy’s wife expressed [Ar] “great relief” at his pardon and Mohamed’s wife said her “life changed” because of the news. Young activists and prisoners in poor health were also pardoned in the decree. Yara Sallam and Sanaa Seif, two human rights activists who were arrested along with 20 others for protesting near the Ettehadiya Presidential Palace in June 2014, are among those pardoned [Ar]. The decree pardoned 18 of the 21 prisoners charged with protesting against military trials outside of the Shura Council in November 2013, though it is unclear whether prominent activist Alaa Abd al-Fattah is among those pardoned. Activist Omar Hazek, who was charged with organizing an unauthorized protest in December 2013, was also pardoned while Mahinour al-Masry, who was charged in the same case and won the 2014 Ludovic Trarieux award for her human rights work, was not mentioned in the decree. Amnesty International Egypt stated [Ar] that they hope “that the decision stems from the authorities’ conviction of the innocence of those imprisoned.” back to top April 6 Movement Leader Arrested The leader of the April 6 Youth Movement, Amr Ali, was detained [Ar] on Tuesday as part of an “ongoing investigation” according to the head of the Ashmoun Investigative Bureau.
