Those who know me well will be aware that is something that does not happen very often! It is an honour and a privilege to hold this office. To be the 100th President and only the second lady to hold that office makes it even more of an honour. It is also an honour for Papplewick & Linby Cricket Club to have one of their many volunteers recognised in this way. My love of cricket predates being married to a cricketer and having two cricketing sons. I grew up listening with my father to John Arlott and Brian Johnstone on the radio and I still love the traditional versions of the game but I know like all things cricket must change to survive. It is a fantastic game with all its intricacies, terminology and laws – what is LBW? Why 6 balls in an over? Why 11 players in a team? However, I hear you say, we can play with less than 11 – six‐a‐side tournaments for example; we can have more than 6 balls in an over – some midweek leagues play 8‐ball overs. There is a version of indoor cricket that plays matches of 16 overs, 8 players (4 pairs) in a team with each pair batting for 4 overs known as a skin, with everyone bowling. As Michael said in his Foreword of 2016, we need to embrace change and start to shape our game to ensure it lives on. Michael started the process in discussions with both the League Management Committee and latterly with the clubs and at the AGM. To continue this, the BDCL League Management Committee will be undertaking a process of consultation with all clubs and more importantly with the players in 2017; I will be leading this initiative. Please keep your eyes open for emails, posters etc. informing you of what is happening. The proposals formulated from this consultation will be put to the vote at the 2017 AGM in November. i I hope that I will meet many of you during the 2017 season and get to spend time with you; not just watching our special game but hearing your thoughts about how to continue to move cricket forward so that anyone who wants to take part, whatever their age, skill or experience of cricket; has a style of game that suits their lifestyle and needs. You will find an email address for me in this handbook, just put BDCL consultation as the subject line, I will try to ensure all views, and thoughts are considered. Finally, good luck to all teams for 2017, positive thoughts to keep the rain at bay. AUSTRALIAN CRICKET SOCIETY 54th Annual Report & Financial Statements 2020~2021 to be presented at the Annual General Meeting of the Australian Cricket Society Incorporated on Friday, 20th August 2021 Australian Cricket Society Inc. Established 1967 President's Report It is my pleasure to report on another highly successful and buoyant year for the Australian Cricket Society in 2020-21. Despite all the challenges of lockdowns and the nation’s roller- coasting battle with Covid-19 we have been able to complete a dozen functions in the last 12 months, albeit the majority by ‘Zoom’, allowing us to make another substantial donation to our gold charity partners the Ponting Foundation. Among the Zoom guests were Test offspinner Ashley Mallett, authors David Frith, Dan Liebke, Craig Dodson and Wes Cusworth and leading Australian women Annabel Sutherland and Rachael Haynes. We were also pleased to hold our annual dinner, which Covid- 19 had precluded from being held in 2020. Cricket’s fraternity and friendships were never more important than in July when our dinner guest, Test fast bowler James Pattinson was in touch on the Wednesday, telling me that a personal issue precluded his attendance for the Friday. There was just 48 hours to go and Victoria’s head coach Chris Rogers stepped in. Chris Rogers demonstrating how high the Master should be raising his arm when bowling! Pic by Johann Jayasinha - SNNI The ultimate insider in Australian cricket, a champion player and an even better bloke, Chris spoke for an hour about the Vics and the Aussies and also about his memorable 2013 Ashes trip when he broke through for the first of his five Test centuries at Durham.

In the absence of any Second XI cricket and the One Day Cup competition, the Bob Willis Trophy reports have been expanded to include a write up for each day’s play as well as the full scorecards. Sadly all fixtures were played behind closed doors so hopefully these extended reports will enable readers to get the feeling of actually being at the game! In addition, the Somerset Women’s team reports plus the Boys and Girls Pathway write ups are included in the first half of the book as they now come under the remit of Somerset CCC rather than the Somerset Cricket Board.

  • Cricket Scoring the First Steps
CRICKET SCORING THE FIRST STEPS CRICKET SCORING THE FIRST STEPS This manual has been written to help introduce new scorers to basic methods of scoring and to answer some of the questions most new scorers have. We hope that anyone who reads this manual will then feel confident to score for a day’s cricket and will know the answers to some of the situations they might come across. It is written in simple language without too much reference to the Laws of Cricket but we have quoted the Law numbers on occasions so that any scorer wishing to learn more about scoring and the Laws of Cricket can then refer to them. In scoring it is important to learn to do the simple thing’s first and this manual will hopefully help you do that. A scorer has four duties which are laid down in Law FOUR of the Laws of Cricket. These are: 1. Accept The Scorer may on occasion believe a signal to be incorrect but you must always accept and record the Umpire signals as given. Remember you as Scorers are part of a team of four and you must work together with the Umpires. 2. Acknowledge Clearly and promptly acknowledge all Umpires’ signals – if necessary wave a white card or paper if the Umpires find it hard to see you. Confer with Umpires about doubtful points at intervals. 3. Record Always write neatly and clearly. 4. Check Do this frequently as detailed later. 2 Reprinted with the kind permission of the NSW Umpires' & Scorers' Association GETTING STARTED Note: You should familiarise yourself with any local rules which apply to matches played in your competition.

DECISION Tina Ngata’s comment followed operations committee chairman Larry Foster’s closing remarks over what the appropriate imagery for the district might be, suggesting the possibility of a Maori and Pakeha embracing with a hongi and earning a rebuke from Ms Ngata. In revoking their decision, all 13 councillors and Mayor Rehette Stoltz agreed to instead “seek widespread community feedback and to consult REVOKED specifically with Tairawhiti iwi about the future location for the Endeavour replicas”. But councillor Meredith Akuhata-Brown n Councillors vote 14-0 in favour of rescinding called on her colleagues to go a step further. “The right thing to do is to stop saying Endeavour models reinstatement decision we will consult with tangata whenua — we will partner, we will be on the same page, we will work together, we will understand, because we’re just peeling the scab off a n Agree to ‘seek widespread community feedback’ sore that’s deep, a wound.” Her comments were widely applauded by members of the public who watched the and to ‘consult with Tairawhiti iwi’ meeting unfold after gathering outside the council building from 7.30am to protest the earlier decision with placards, one reading “No More Racist Monuments”.

Playing Conditions Under 17’s 1 The laws of cricket (Laws of Cricket 2017 Code) shall apply with the exception of the following playing regulations: 1.1 Teams shall consist of six players each. 1.2 Each match shall consist of one innings per team. 1.3 Each innings shall consist of a maximum of 12 six ball overs 1.4 No more than 3 overs shall be bowled by any individual. In calculating each individual’s total number of overs, part of an over shall be deemed as a full over. 1.5 Two batters shall be at the wicket at all times during an innings. In the event of a team losing five wickets within the permitted 12 overs, the last man shall continue batting with the fifth man out remaining at the wicket as a non-striker. 1.6 When a batter reaches or passes a personal total of 25 they shall retire, but may return to the creases on the departure of the fifth batter. Retired batters must return in order of their retirement and take the place of the retiring or dismissed batter. • Fielders, Wicket-Keeping and Send-Offs
Page 15 - additional information around substitute fielders, wicket-keeping and send-offs Fielders Substitute fielders Sometimes teams will play with a 12th man, who may come on to replace another player in the field. Even without a formal 12th man, some teams may use a substitute fielder if required and available. Under the new laws, the rules around substitute fielders have become a bit more complicated. Substitute fielders may not bat or bowl; however, they can wicket-keep with the consent of the umpires if they are substituting for a wicket-keeper who has been genuinely injured. No substitute fielders are permitted to replace a player who has been sent off. If the wicket-keeper is sent off, only another player from the original 11 can wicket-keep, and if a substitute fielder subsequently replaces another fielder (e.g. due to injury), that substitute still cannot wicket-keep. Any player who is replaced by a substitute for any length of time must serve a ‘penalty period’ after returning to the field, which is a period equivalent to the amount of time spent off the ground. During this ‘penalty time’, the player cannot bowl, and, if the innings ends meanwhile, the player cannot bat until the penalty time has been served, or until the player’s team has lost 5 wickets. If a substitute fielder is sent off for a set number of overs, the player they replaced cannot return until the set number of overs for the send off have been completed (see page 102). When the original player returns to the field after the send off period, they need only serve ‘penalty time’ for the time spent off the field before and after the send off overs.

  • Hawk Green Seeking to Join League in 2019
Cheshire County Cricket League APRIL, 2018 NEWSLETTER Hawk Green seeking to join League in 2019 DERBYSHIRE & Cheshire League club Hawk Green have applied to join the Vivio Cheshire County League at the end of the 2018 season. With a fine ground at Rhode Field, Upper Hibbert Lane, situated a couple of miles from Marple, Hawk Green made a formal application to switch leagues via the Cheshire Clubs Cricket Committee. The development was subsequently discussed between the officers of the County and Cheshire Leagues and, considering the strength of the club and its impressive facilities, it was agreed to advocate that Hawk Green be admitted to the County League for the 2019 season, to play in Division Two. If a proposal that they should be admitted, to be made by Didsbury and seconded by Tattenhall, is ratified at the League management meeting at Warrington on Wednesday, April 11, only the bottom club in Division 2 will be relegated from the County League and only the champion club promoted from the UK Fast League at the end of the 2018 campaign. Hawk Green 2nd XI would then also be promoted to play in the County League’s Second Division. Reporting to the League’s March Cricket Committee, chairman David Humpage said: “Hawk Green are the current Derbyshire and Cheshire League champions and have good playing strength throughout the club, and they possess a ground which easily passes muster. While some people in the UK Fast League felt Hawk Green should start at the bottom of the pyramid and work their way up, it was the general consensus that Hawk Green were of sufficient calibre to merit a place in the County League in 12 months’ time”.

I intend to represent the League in an open and honest way and hope to meet as many of you as possible during the year. It is my goal to share your thoughts and opinions with my colleagues on the League Management Committee and also the wider cricket community. Without being too pessimistic, our fantastic recreational game is facing some significant and growing challenges in many areas that are, to an extent, out of our control. The world we live in, the pace of life, the demise of former colliery and company teams, rules and regulations, costs, volunteer fatigue, loss of tradition, discipline and numerous other issues too long to list here, are all impacting on the game in both Bassetlaw and the country as a whole. The legacy I hope to leave following my year as President is a recognition and understanding that we must accept that change is inevitable in the game and that we should attempt to embrace this change and shape it, not just sit back and wait for things to happen, or attempt to cling on to the past, however close it is to our hearts.
