    LOPEN EYE Lopen Parish Newsletter SEPTEMBER 2018 LOPEN FLOWER FESTIVAL A HUGE SUCCESS! With the theme of Birds of the Bible, the flower festival in All Saints Church was a huge success. There were many impressive floral displays accompanied by appropriate bird song to greet the visitors, some from as far afield as Bridport and Axminster. What a talented group of ladies we have! Supporting the flower displays were a plant stall, raffle, cake stall and refreshments in the Sunday School Room. The weather was kind to us so we had many visitors and the event raised a total of £1,834.81 for the church - a stunning result! A big thanks to Liz Constable and her team of volunteers. SOMERSET OPEN STUDIOS 2018 Somerset Open Studios 2018 will run from 15-30th FOOTPATHS PROJECT September and draws Art Weeks back to its roots, Please join us for the focusing on artists in their working environment. South Somerset District Council has published the results of its Housing and Employment Land Availability Assessment (HELAA), which identifies sites suitable and available to be developed for housing or employment. If housing is delivered on the sites identified, Yeovil will continue to grow to the north and west, with Castle Cary, Chard, Crewkerne, Ilminster and Wincanton all being expected to shoulder some of the burden. The majority of the sites identified are for housing only, with a number of mixed use development sites scattered across the district.

Parliamentary Boundary Changes: The Parliamentary boundaries are being reviewed by the Boundary Commission for England in an attempt to even out the electoral numbers in each of the Parliamentary constituencies across England. It is proposed that Lopen (part of South Petherton) will be moved from Yeovil into a newly formed constituency named Glastonbury and Wincanton CC. See table below for clarification.
