Just about every year at the yearling sales there is an unexpected buzz about an unproven stallion or two, as bloodstock agents and trainers convince themselves that this surprise package could be the next big thing. Now Lawman could hardly be described as a surprise package. After all, he had started his stallion career at Ballylinch Stud at a fee of i25,000 on the strength of his all-the-way victories in the G1 Prix du Jockey-Club and G1 Prix Jean Prat. However, he hadn=t been snapped up by one of the superpowers of European breeding and his fee had fallen to its current level of i15,000 by 2010, the year his first yearlings reached the sales ring.

  • Don't Dream It's Over
TUESDAY, 22 OCTOBER 2019 THE WEEKLY WRAP: DON'T YEARLING ACTION RETURNS TO DEAUVILLE FOR ARQANA OCTOBER By Emma Berry DREAM IT'S OVER DEAUVILLE, France-There is little let-up in the packed European sales calendar. Tattersalls brought down the shutters on its October marathon on Saturday afternoon but by Monday morning Goffs was back in action with its Autumn Sale and today (Tuesday) sees the start of the four-day Arqana October Sale. This understudy to the flamboyant August yearling sale in Deauville has traditionally been conducted in two parts but this year it has a distinct grading system for each day, with the seemingly strongest set of yearlings offered in the opening session. The sale's clash with a three-day race meeting in the town means that the first two days of trade will not begin until 3 p.m. That may be just as well for those looking at yearlings on Monday who had to spend plenty of time dodging heavy seaside showers. Cont. p5 IN TDN AMERICA TODAY Kameko (left), will bid to reverse the Royal Lodge form with Royal Dornoch in the G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy. | Racing Post FASIG-TIPTON KY OCTOBER BEGAN MONDAY The Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearlings Sale began in Lexington, KY on Monday. Brian DiDonato has the full scoop. Click or tap here to go straight to TDN America. By Emma Berry We are in that strange week of the year after Champions Day, with much tweeting about the end of the Flat season but with at least one highly informative juvenile race yet to be run.

  • Three King George Titles for Battaash Cont
SATURDAY, 3 AUGUST 2019 THREE KING GEORGE DUKE OF HAZZARD TAKES THOROUGHBRED S. TITLES FOR BATTAASH Finding some progression of late, Fitri Hay=s Duke of Hazzard (Fr) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) emerged from a roughhouse renewal of Goodwood=s G3 Bonhams Thoroughbred S. with a career-best to justify 3-1 favouritism. Last seen beating Momkin (Ire) (Bated Breath {GB}) in the Listed Sir Henry Cecil S. over this mile trip at Newmarket on July 11, the bay was reserved early by PJ McDonald and despite being stopped in his run passing the two- furlong marker regained momentum to reel in Turjomaan (War Front) inside the last 100 yards for a half-length success. AHe was the horse I was most looking forward to riding this week, but it was not a nice race to ride in at all,@ the in-form jockey said. AThe pace was very slow and in the middle part of the straight it got tight, but I was lucky I was travelling well and things have been falling right for me this week.@ Cont. p4 Battaash and Jim Crowley prior to the King George | racingfotos.com IN TDN AMERICA TODAY WHITNEY REMEMBERED AT HOF INDUCTION By Tom Frary On the eve of the running of the Grade I race that bears her name, Keeping it simple despite all the pressure before Friday=s the late Marylou Whitney was inducted into the American Racing G2 King George Qatar S., Jim Crowley steered Battaash (Ire) Hall of Fame Friday in her hometown of Saratoga Springs, New York.
