In the United States this growth has been based on copyright infringement, where fans have subtitled anime series and released them as fansubs. In the absence of official releases fansubs have created the current popularity of anime, which companies can now benefit from. From the beginning the companies have tolerated and even encouraged the fan activity, partly because the fans have followed their own rules, intended to stop the distribution of fansubs after official licensing. The work explores the history and current situation of fansubs, and seeks to explain how these practices adopted by fans have arisen, why both fans and companies accept them and act according to them, and whether the situation is sustainable. Keywords: Japanese animation, anime, fansub, copyright, piracy Tiivistelmä Piratismia vai tuottavuutta: laittomat toimintatavat animen fanikäännöksissä Japanilaisen animaation eli animen suosio maailmalla on lyhyessä ajassa kasvanut räjähdysmäisesti. Tämä kasvu on Yhdysvalloissa perustunut tekijänoikeuksien rikkomiseen, missä fanit ovat tekstittäneet animesarjoja itse ja julkaisseet ne fanikäännöksinä. Virallisten julkaisujen puutteessa fanikäännökset ovat luoneet animen nykyisen suosion, jota yhtiöt voivat nyt hyödyntää. Yhtiöt ovat alusta asti sietäneet ja jopa kannustaneet fanien toimia, osaksi koska fanit ovat noudattaneet omia sääntöjään, joiden on tarkoitus estää fanikäännösten levitys virallisen lisensoinnin jälkeen.

    Penggambaran Stereotip Gender Shoujo Manga Pada Tokoh Anime

    IR - PERPUSTAKAAN UNIVERSITAS AIRLANGGA BAB I PENDAHULUAN 1.1 Latar Belakang Manga adalah komik Jepang, di mana salah satu genre-nya adalah shoujo manga, yaitu manga yang dipasarkan kepada sebagian besar perempuan. Mizuki Takahashi (dalam Macwilliams, 2008) berpendapat bahwa shoujo manga adalah hal yang melekat kepada subkultur Jepang yang disebut shoujo bunka, yaitu dunia tertutup dari, oleh, untuk dan tentang perempuan. Shoujo manga sendiri memiliki berberapa pola didalamnya, salah satunya menyangkut mengenai gender. Ninomiya (dalam Choo, 2008: 281) berpendapat bahwa shoujo manga modern lebih cenderung kepada percintaan dengan narasi ‘perempuan pecundang yang mendapatkan pangeran tampan’. Mengimplikasikan bahwa tidak ada pandangan setara perempuan dengan laki-laki. Pada tahun 1970 dan 1980, ada beberapa shoujo manga yang sangat populer dan juga dianggap sebagai sesuatu yang revolusioner, seperti Candy Candy karya Kyoko Mizuki dan The Rose of Versailles karya Riyoko Ikeda. Kedua komik tersebut fokus kepada percintaan, namun hal itu tidak menghapuskan ambisi dari karakter utama, dimana karakter utama dikomik shoujo manga ini memprioritaskan karir mereka (Choo, 2008). Ada pergeseran dalam dinamika gender di dalam shoujo manga, seperti yang tercermin dari dua judul shoujo manga terkenal yaitu Fruits Basket dan Hana yori Dango. Berbeda dengan The Rose of Versailles, kedua judul ini memiliki penggambaran karakter perempuan yang cukup berbeda. Dalam Fruits Basket dan Hana yori Dango, karakter utama perempuannya adalah seorang yang kuat namun digambarkan sebagai orang yang menyedihkan dan laki-laki yang sangat agresif (Choo, 2008).

    Manfred WONG (Alias Man Chun) 文雋（B

    Manfred WONG (alias Man Chun) 文雋（b. 1957.6.5） Screenwriter, Actor, Producer Originally named Wong Man-chun, Wong was born in Hong Kong. As a child, Wong already performed in many children’s radio dramas at Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK). He started submitting movie reviews to Youth’s Weekly in 1975 when he was still in secondary school, and became a regular writer under the pseudonym ‘Man Chun’. He was later admitted to the Department of Communication of Hong Kong Baptist College. When Rediffusion Television (RTV) started its own creative unit, Wong went on board to become a professional writer before completing his education. He created screenplays for series including Beloved Daughter (1978), Dragon Strikes (1979) and Blowing in the Wind (1980). Wong’s first movie script was for Encore (1980). After leaving RTV for Johnny Mak Production Ltd., he wrote Lonely Fifteen (1982) and Everlasting Love (1984). He then joined the creative team of Golden Harvest as a full-time writer to create Sworn Brothers (1987) and Killer’s Nocturne (1987), all the while penning screenplays for other companies, including the gangster epics Tragic Hero (1987) and Rich and Famous (1987) jointly presented by Win’s Film Co. and Johnny Mak Production Ltd. After leaving Golden Harvest in 1987, he ventured into film distribution by joining D & J which advertised the projects of D & B Films. Wong also did some acting, and one of his more memorable roles comes from The Yuppie Fantasia (1989). After the closure of D & J, Wong continued to work with various companies as a freelance screenwriter.

The organizer of the seminar, The Animation Workshop, is the leading Nordic school for animators and comics artists. We’ve witnessed first hand how manga has become the universal language of young Western artist everywhere: A clear majority of everyone applying to the school – from near or far – are heavily inspired by the dynamic pen strokes of Japan’s finest mangaka. Some even give the strong female characters of the world of manga most of the credit for turning the female to male ratio of young animators and comics artists upside down: These days, the majority of our and other animation and comics schools’ applicants are female whereas 10 years ago, the opposite was true. In other words, Japanese comics have made a profound impression on Western popular culture. “Manga and Comics” will show why manga has had such an impact here and exactly how. The contemporary state of the art form will be traced back to its Japanese and Western roots, and comics artists and mangaka will discuss how inspiration from Japan and the West enriches their own work.
