Heat 1 teaspoon of the oil in a medium sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add the mushrooms and cook for about 3 minutes, or until slightly tender. Set aside in a medium bowl. 3. Heat another teaspoon of the oil in the pan and sauté the calamari tentacles for 3 minutes. 4. Let the tentacles cool and chop them into ½ inch pieces. Add the tentacles to the bowl with the sautéed mushrooms, the breadcrumbs, the remaining ¼ cup oil, and salt and pepper to taste. Stir to combine. The stuffing mixture should be moist. 5. Using your fingers, stuff the body of each calamari with the mushroom mixture, being careful not to pack it too tightly. Thread a toothpick through the open end of each calamari to keep it closed. 6. Cover the bottom of an 8 by 10-inch baking dish with 1 cup of the marinara sauce and place the calamari in the dish. Top with the remaining marinara sauce and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes. 7. Remove the toothpicks before serving. Sprinkle with chopped chives for garnish if desired. JOE SAYS: MAKE AHEAD OF TIME This dish reheats well the next day: cover the baking dish with foil and heat the calamari in a 350° F preheated oven for 15 minutes. The National Herald December 23, 2006 The National Herald is once again honored to join you and your family for Christmas. In addition to the other contents in this issue, we have spotlighted two short and abridged stories written by Photios Kontoglou (1895–1965), a gifted and spiritual artist. These stories depict two unique celebrations of Christmas in Aivali, Asia Minor. As the Christmas season draws near, many of us will be attending Orthodox churches and experiencing the spiritual power of Greek icons. Kondoglou was the foremost iconographer in Greece in the 20th century. He wrote extensively on the sacred art of iconography, in fact he is considered the man responsible for the revival of Byzantine iconography in the 1930’s. Kontoglou was born in 1895 in Aivali, Asia Minor. Together with his paintings and his writings, he published more than 3000 studies and articles, fighting for the eternal values of the Or- thodoxy and the Greek Tradition. Although known primarily as an iconist and philosopher, Kontoglou was also nominated for the Nobel Prize in literature. He was awarded the Cross-of-the- Commander of the Phoenix and received the Distinction of Letters and Arts from the Academy of Athens in recognition of all his exceptional work. We are also continuing our theme of Christmas past with a touching story, from the perspective of a Greek soldier, during the Albanian campaign of 1940-1941. Included in this insert is a lighthearted piece by Paul Papadeas about celebrating Christmas Greek style in North Carolina during the 1980’s. As for the story of Christmas present we leave it up to you, and from all of the staff of The National Herald we wish you “Χρόνια Πολλά.” Beverley MacDougall Special Section Assistant Editor 2 CHRISTMAS 2006 THE NATIONAL HERALD, DECEMBER 23, 2006 and fill their hearts and minds with The National Herald peace.

  • Mistrzowski Koniec Roku

" Menu Where to Buy Panettone in LA for the Holidays Print Want to celebrate the holidays like an Italian? Step 1: Panettone. If you're looking for the perfect gift this holiday season, forget about toys and gadgets and whatever Black Friday deals you can get at Walmart. This year, celebrate like an Italian and give a present that is equally sweet, soft, delicate, moist, and pre-wrapped - the perfect panettone . Panettone originally hails from Milan and is part bread, part cake, shaped like a cupola, and filled with either candied fruit, raisins, chocolate chips, or other confections. Traditionally, panettone is eaten on Christmas, which is why it makes such an ideal gift. In Los Angeles, you can find a variety of panettone from Italian bakeries and delis, but also from further afield as professional artisans will now ship their delicate masterpieces all over the country. For this LA holiday season, order from these purveyors and give the gift of Milanese sweetness. For Delivery Eataly For truly authentic products of Italy, Eataly is your one-stop-shop with its massive marketplace in Century City. Here you'll find unique panettone like the Orange and Chocolate from Tommaso Muzzi Panettone, which was founded in 1795, or the All'Amaretto Panettone from Chiostro di Saronno , which is filled with Amaretto macaron cream. • Dulces Y Postres Navideños En Diferentes Zonas Del Mundo
