The Benedictine TraditionLives ______________________Z______________________ …in the hearts and through the good works of the Sisters, their benefactors, alumni, oblates, friends, and relatives. Annual Report and Annual Appeal 2011 Benedictine Sisters of Pittsburgh Annual Appeal 2011 Dear Friends and Partners of St. Benedict: Last year about this same time, I wrote to you about how our world is constantly changing, that no matter what our calling, all of us are often challenged to adapt our perspectives and expand our horizons so as to remain vibrant and strong. And never has this been truer for the Benedictine Sisters of Pittsburgh than it is today! To be the best stewards of our resources and to better meet the needs of the people we serve and the Sisters, we have put our property up for sale and we are making plans to build a smaller, greener monastery. Adaptability is built into our monastic tradition. St. Benedict knew that the spiritual tradition he started more than 1500 years ago had to be kept alive with the Gospel spirit. Consequently, the heart of the mission he established is always growing to encompass new things. So we go forward in faith, committed to remaining vibrant and strong by building a new and more efficient home from which our ministries will flow and grow. I invite you to join us in our work today and for the exciting work ahead. With your partnership, we know we can do whatever is necessary to continue our mission of seeking God in community, prayer and ministry. Men, women and children in need are counting on us, and we in turn, are counting on you.

" " $ AS EACH ONE HAS RECEIVED A GIFT, USE IT TO SERVE ONE ANOTHER AS GOOD STEWARDS OF GOD’S VARIED GRACE– 1 Peter 4:10 Poverty in America is a moral and social crisis that threatens the health and well-being of our country. In Santa Clara County, nearly one in four households can’t make ends meet. It’s time to renew our commitment to action on behalf of the poor and vulnerable. Please join Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County as we unite policy-makers and people of good will to find effective solutions to this injustice. The Campaign to Cut Poverty is about who we are as a region. We must no longer ignore the injustice of poverty and the extreme inequality in our “Valley of Heart’s Delight.” We must seize this opportunity to promote changes that promote human dignity and the common good. Pledge to join us. Advocate. Give. Volunteer. Your actions will bring us a step closer to creating a just and compassionate community. Dear Friends of Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, We are pleased to present our annual report to the community for fiscal year 2007-2008. This was a very important year for us as the groundwork was laid for Catholic Charities to launch the Campaign to Cut Poverty with Step Up Silicon Valley, a coalition we are leading of more than 90 service organizations, corporations and government agencies, whose goal is to cut poverty in half by 2020 in Santa Clara County.

The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph FROM ADVENT TO THE CHRISTMAS SEASON MASS INTENTIONS Our Advent waiting has come to an end, and we have joyfully celebrated Sunday, December 29: The Holy Family of Christmas. There was Mass on Christmas Eve with the depiction of the Jesus, Mary & Joseph 8:45 am STA Gospel in the Christmas Pageant. There were parties and family gatherings Adoph Canelo † with fabulous meals. Our plates have overflowed with wonderful rich Readings: Sirach 3:2-7, 12-14; Psalm 128:1-2, 3, holiday food we only enjoy at this time of year. Christmas morning came, 4-5; Colossians 3:12-21 and the celebration continued. Presents were opened followed by more or Colossians 3:12-17; feasting. These two days we anticipate for so long go by very quickly. A few Matthew 2:13-15, 19-23 short hours, and then it is gone. We awake the next morning to find bargains Monday, December 30 galore and the encouragement to come back to the stores and shop ‘til we Readings: 1 John 2:12-17; Psalm 96:7-8a, drop, exchanging that gift that wasn’t quite right, and buying all the things 8b-9, 10; Luke 2:36-40 we really wanted but didn’t get. Shelves in the stores are bare; decorations Tuesday, December 31 look worn and tired. In a few short days they will be gone, and our world 12:15 pm STA . .James & Edith Dubbs will have moved on. • Saint Athanasius
October 6, 2019 Twenty Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Father John R. Rushofsky [email protected] Pastor 412 364 8999 Administrator’s Perspective What’s Up? By now you have seen the new Mass schedule that will go into effect on the First weekend of Advent, November 30—December 1. Some of the Masses have remained the same as the former interim schedule, but there are also a few changes. We know that some people will not be particularly thrilled, but these new Mass times reflect what we feel will best serve the needs of the entire grouping. And that brings up two more points. First, it is time for us to begin the process of choosing a new parish name as we move steadily toward our merger date in nine months. We’ll be asking for your input, but there are criteria and guidelines for names we will be permitted to use, so we will be providing that information soon. Please don’t send in suggestions until you’ve seen the parameters. Second, since we are committed to keeping you informed about all the steps we need to take before next July 1, we will soon be making available a timeline for the merger process, with a month by month schedule of everything we need to do. On another topic, some are inquiring about the financial situation of our four parishes. The short answer is: not good. The longer answer is: We will be posting the results of the Saint Athanasius Festival and the Saint Teresa Festival, both of which were quite successful; and we will also post the financial reports of the four parishes so you can see for yourself how our Offertory collections are down.

Cardinal O’Malley, OFM, Cap. Roman Catholic Archbishop of Boston My Dear Friends in Christ, Last November we gathered at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross for a magnificent celebration of the Archdiocese of Boston’s Bicentennial. The depth and breadth of our history and the vitality of our local church in this present time were brought forth as we made the commitment to continue building on the foundations established by our predecessors. This annual report shows us that the Archdiocese’s overall financial condition has improved over the last year, continuing the positive trend of recent years. The report also indicates that we face a number of challenges, including an unprecedented number of requests for services for the poor and those who find themselves in a never expected circumstance of need. The economic declines and job losses of the past year have impacted many people.
